I'm chiming in a little late, but after reading the whole thread up to this post, here are some random thoughts:

Also, side question: I note most of the major studios in Hollywood have had Riffed films... except for one fairly litigious biggie. Is it just coincidence that they haven't had one of their films riffed yet, or have the lawyers recommended that riffing them may not be a good idea?

Is this a reference to Disney?  If so, they've had films and TV shows riffed.  Lost and Grey's Anatomy are Disney's, as is Cocktail, just off the top of my head.  Remember, Disney owns ABC Studios (formerly Touchstone Television), Touchstone Films, Miramax, Hollywood Pictures, and much more.

Yes, it was and you're absolutely correct. I'd forgotten about the Disney/ABC connection. D'oh. Glad to hear it was just me seeing connections when there aren't any dots to actually connect.

To the topic of older vs. newer movies, I don't mind the current trend at all really, though a little classic from the 80's/90's wouldn't hurt every now and then, if the right movie was chosen. Anyway good job so far rifftrax guys and keep on rockin!  8)

That pretty much sums it up for me.

Re: sponsoring a RiffTrax of something we'd all love to see -- that is a brilliant idea!  Count me in.  (But is it one the RiffMasters will go for?)  I'll help you guys get your Dunes and your Red Dawns if you'll help me get Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.

And re: a subscription plan that might help subsidize some of the more obscure fare, also brilliant.  Everyone wins.  Sign me up for that, too!

I'm down for all three of those.  Not only because I would really like to see them riffed, but also to stop the constant forum posts asking for them.    :D

Pirates on the other hand, seems promising.

The Keith Richards jokes alone would be worth it.

Regarding HSM.  Did you see the list of titles that very few people wanted to see?  HSM would fall right in line with Glitter, Crossroads or Grey's.  Pirates on the other hand, seems promising.

High School Musical is in a class well above Crossroads or Glitter.   Glitter and Crossroads were box office flops, HSM was a huge hit.   I think there are a lot of people that would pay good money to see it riffed to shreds.

It was a big hit, but not with the same people who listen to RiffTrax.  See "Grey's Anatmoy"

I just posted a poll on this very subject.  I hope others will agree with me.  This is a good Rifftrax subject.

Besides, you all should be doing a Billy Jack Rifftrax anyway.

I'm with you, man.

I know I'm in the minority, but I thought Disembaudio's car thief rant was one of the funniest things about it.

Actually, Disembaudio's car-thief rant is the one part I don't like from 5E.    :D
D'oh!  You sellout.

I for one like that Rifftrax is the "new movie riffer". I would be distressed if Rifftrax did older movies.

Rifftrax is no longer THE riffing company. Cinematic Titanic, ICWXP, Riff Raff Theater, Fun With Shorts, QuipTracks, or any other riff is just as valid as Rifftrax is. Not to rock the boat or cause an uproar of any kind, but none of them are really "fan riffs" of Rifftrax. They are riffs, often with their own website. Who you think is the best at it is up to you (it's probably Rifftrax), but they are all valid. On a side note, because of this, I think that Rifftrax should be a tad more mindful of what riffs are already out there. I'm mainly referring to their shorts, most of which have been done by Josh Way. When they do this, it seems that they think that they are the only riffers that matter and can step on whatever little guy they want. Notice I say "seems". I don't mean to accuse them of any malicious intent.

If you all want riffing to emerge as an artform as I do, I think it's important that we all support each other and give each other a bit of room. I think Rifftrax should be the ones to riff new movies because they can write a riff really quickly so as to have the riff ready as soon as the movie is available. I think that them branching out would cause frustration to anybody else who wants to riff. As a riffer, I know that we won't be stepping on Rifftrax's toes (or vice versa) if QuipTracks does the slightly older films.

I don't really see a need to carve out territories here.  There's no law that says there can be only one riff per film.

True, but it's everybody's dream to have their very own riff.  :)

Hah.  Hah.  Funny story, that Anatomy stuff.

So, I tried to get my family into RiffTrax.  It worked on my younger brother quite well, especially since some of the first titles I showed him were Troll 2 and Glitter.  My sister, however, had no interest in watching people tear apart bad movies.  So I tried to throw some of the more well-known titles at her.  Lost.  Star Wars Episode I.  Etcetera.  When I told her that they riffed Grey's Anatomy, I had pretty much guaranteed that I was never, EVER going to get my sister to watch a RiffTrax.  She acted like the guys had fallen on sacred ground with that one.  The show was so GOOD, it made her CRY, her friends had PARTIES where they watched it!

Boy, did I feel awkward about that.

Everything is sacred to someone.  I had a roomate who told me he cried at the end of the unriffed Pod People when he was a child.
