Is Kevin Murphy officially a regular RiffTrax riffer now?

They will have a negotiated contract, they've been a bit mum on other details so I doubt they will share how much they get paid  ;D Clearly it's enough for Kevin to fly over and spend a ~week a film with the legend guys.

If they had a Mike-less rifftrax, I would hope they'd get someone like Joel to take the wheel. But I doubt thats happening anytime soon...or ever.

I'm not in favor of a Mike-less Rifftrax, but if there were a movie that Mike wants to avoid but Kevin was comfortable riffing, maybe there are possibilities there.  How does Kevin feel about "Showgirls"?

I don't pay that much attention to ratings.  Have they been riffing any "R" rated films??

I wouldn't buy a Mike-less rifftrax.  Unpopular opinion coming up but I wouldn't have watched mst3k if it weren't for Mike. Don't get me wrong, I like Kevin too now.  I think he adds something to the trax but I don't think I could enjoy a riffing without Mike's goofiness.  I've tried to watch Mike-less mst3k and it just misses with me because I want to see a guy who'll put on a diaper, swallow a fish, dress like a girl and sing a cheesy song...Joel just doesn't have that vibe  :D  It would be interesting to see both of them together because I think Joel is funny, just not in the same way.  I'd like to see them play off each other.

I'm a Joel man- to me, he gives off a generally much more artsy and less middle class, middle America vibe than does Mike, and I prefer that. Besides, if I have one complaint about Mike, it's that he seems generally to be pretty down on most everything, and Joel never gave me that sense.

They're both great, though, and I'd commit... well, not murder, but at least grand larceny or some subset of fraud to get a riff with both of them.

I was going to say something like that, but I didn't. Joel, to me, was much more high brow and dignified than Mike, which is why I like Mike.  Mike isn't afraid to be a big goofball idiot for the sake of humor.  Part of it was the characters they played in the show.  Mike was supposed to be the goofy temp. . . but I didn't mean to start a Joel vs Mike debate.  It's all been said and done before.

I just meant to say, I wouldn't even try a riff without Mike.  It's not worth throwing the $3 down the drain {shrugs} but no biggie. I wouldn't get mad if they did do one.  Just one less riff to buy.  I don't see them ousting Mike from his throne anytime soon. As long as they don't do that, it's ok with me.

Out of the 15 Trax so far, 5 have been "R". Road House, Point Break, Halloween, The Matrix, and Cocktail

I would say that of those, only the Matrix is a particularly 'hard' R, though; the rest of them could probably squeeze into a PG-13 with minimal changes, or in Halloween's case, none.

Maybe Road House.

I just always love how the debates always seem to come across like the Guys wrote their own lines exclusively.

AmandaGal

I never said that they wrote all their own lines, I said their styles are different.  It's like you wouldn't write the same lines for Adam Sandler that you did for Sean Connery.  The same writer could, in theory, write for both people but he'd tailor his writing for the person. Even if they had the same lines, Adam Sandler would deliver a line much differently.  The show has a different tone depending on who's "starring" in it, regardless of who was writing it, imho.  Same goes for Crow.  I think Bill's tone was a whole lot different than Trace's.  You could probably give both guys the same riff and Bill would come off snarkier.

In other words, you mean they didn't really make up all their own riffs?!  Next you're going to tell me they didn't really live in a spaceship.  They do still share a garden level apartment together right?! They have to otherwise everything I've ever believed in is wrong.  Don't crush my dreams man! ;D

I'm late in on this thread. I have no interest in a Rifftrax without Mike. The guests are cool but Mike is THE MAN!

And I didn't quote you. It was a general comment on how all these arguments come across.

It could hardly be Mike Nelsons Rifftrax without him ;)

Heh but seriously I would still look forward to say a Kevin and Bill rifftrax or Kevin and Trace!

MrTorso

People don't like change. When they first put the info page up for 5th Element it said the Rifftrax was by Mike and Conor. People on another board were speculating wildly about who this Conor person was and if he was funny or not or if they would even buy it.

I haven't noticed anyone talking about how Fellowship cost $1 more then the norm. Thats $3.99 as apposed to $2.99. I assume it is because the MP3 is in two parts and is so long; maybe they need to cover the costs of downloading it twice...?

My point here is if people aren't complaining about the extra buck, then I don't mind paying an extra dollar from here on in, if it guarantees we have two riffers.
