You will have until Sunday April 13th to vote. You have the option to change your vote before it closes.

As stated in the nominations thread, this is the first pool of movies for the preliminaries of Greatest Movie Ever. They were randomly placed in the four pools. You will be able to choose 10 movies in each Pool and the top 15 clear winners will go on to the first round of the tournament.

Use this thread to campaign for your movies of choice and discuss the voting.

Again... lots of great films there. Won't be easy for me to pick 10. Can I pick twenty or 30? Pretty please?

To hell with everybody who didn't vote for "Back to the Future". To HELL, I say!

I gave my nod to Paths of Glory instead, but I might switch over, since I'm apparently the only one who thinks so and I could better use my vote elsewhere.

The Incredibles have more votes than Paths of Glory.  Thats ridiculous.  Just on principle alone, I'm voting for Paths of Glory

I went for:

Paths of Glory
Casablanca
Field of Dreams
Gattaca
Kind Hearts and Coronets
Notorious
Citizen Kane
Throne of Blood
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
No Country for Old Men

I think Paths of Glory is my favourite Stanley Kubrick film.

Vote fore saints and soldiers, 'is an amazing war movie! Don't question me, I know none of you have seen it because it is a small independent film, but just do it!

Fortis

Okay...just cuz I want more people to watch this movie, I'm going to make a case of Saints and Soldiers.

Spoiler

This is the trailer for it. Sadly, it is kinda cheesy at the end with the narration, and doesn't give the movie the justice it deserves.

This movie is actually based off of a guy that I've talked to, where he was a missionary for his church and went to germany to preach before the war. And then when he served in WWII he actually ran into a german soldier that he had taught in germany, and they helped eachother out. While most of this movie is fiction, it is based off of events in the guy's book written by a relative of his.

Even though this movie was made on a tiny budget, It came out very well, and it is very authentic (except the accents, they butchered those). And is my favorite war movie. It also has a fantastic soundtrack.

ok, im intrigued, I moved this up to next in my queue.  to be able to share movies is one of the reasons why mcduck set this up, if i recall. so thats what i'm doing. but if its wack, ill share that as well.

Yeah, I'll put this in my queue as well.  While we're on War movies, have you seen Joyeux Noel?

Ah no I haven't is it good? I've heard about how there was a christmas during ww1 where everybody laid down their weapons and celebrated. I'll check this out...well Greg, you've done your job look at us all exchanging movies.

You won't regret watching Saints and Soldiers though, I just watched it since I posted a couple of hours ago. I'm amazed yet again how authentic everything is, they got WWII reinactors to come in and play in the movie, these are guys who devote their time to do WWII reinactments, and you can tell. The cinematography is amazing, probably my favorite shot during the movie is shown in the trailer. Where it shows the WWII plane flying overhead. Beautiful. They entered this movie into tons of film festivals and won 14 best pictures. Sadly it didn't get much of a following in theaters, and it took me awhile to track down a copy of the dvd. But I don't regret it.

I only voted for movies you can watch repeatedly. So yes, RoboCop. No, Good Morning Vietnam. Yes, Back to the Future. No, Run Lola Run.

Tripe

Yep I was using the same criteria, anyone who votes based on what they perceive to be a "worthy" movie over an enjoyable one is doing themselves a disservice.

There is no invisible test marker people, you are free to vote for what you actually like.

anais.jude

I disagree. Just because I don't watch Citizen Kane on a reg basis doesn't mean I can't see how amazing it is.

Gone with the Wind I do watch on a reg basis

Agreed.  Brazil's a great film, but I couldn't see it loads of times.  Rewatchability's a factor certainly, but not the prime one.

GalvaTRION

I tried to throw in equal parts pure geekass love and greatdom. I know with my mind (and because I own a copy and actually watch it occasionally) that Casablanca deserves all the accolades it gets- on the other hand, I love Robocop more than I love some of my own family members. Other times, it's just a coin toss- No Country is a better film, but I love The Departed as an experience as well. Also, I truly love movies that can pull you in and give you something you can't get from Citizen Kane- Videodrome, for example.

So... really, it was just balancing out "this deserves to be here" with "this genre work is just as valid but for different reasons" and "I love this movie so fucking much it gives me a hard on".

Thus my list:

Videodrome
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
Alien
The Big Lebowski
MST3K: The Movie
Reservoir Dogs
The Departed
Gattaca
Citizen Kane
Robocop

And yet I know, that if I did this list 20 minutes ago, or 10 minutes from now, that half of the list would be totally different, if not the whole thing. Lot of great flicks to choose from, here.
