That's a Boot-up error in the BIOS..
I had that on my new mother board during a fresh Microsoft OS install, and had to Flash the BIOS to the latest version before it would go away

Ok, I thought it might have been more a drive issue, it happened after I my move to Wellington. I have to use the Vista DVD as a Boot Disc, but once it's loaded everything runs fine.

Currently copying my Steam folder from my old gaming drive to the new one and it's 44GB of games, 25GB of which is maps and skins for Day of Defeat Source. My Quad-Core processor is staying at 19 Celsius at idle and around 24 when loaded with processes. The Silent Knight II CPU cooler kicks some serious ass and looks pretty sweet.

Thought some of you might get a chuckle out of this:

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

OK. So Internet Explorer keeps crashing on me. I'm running Windows Vista so it won't let me uninstall/reinstall IE7. It only crashes when I go to certain websites. Just as an example, it crashes when I go to http://www.telltalegames.com/strongbad but every other part of the site seems to work fine. A lot of myspace pages seem to crash it, but others don't. It seems to be certain sites with certain types of embedded flash that I can't pinpoint. Anyone heard of anything like this and know how to fix it?

(Yes, I know I should just run Firefox, and Firefox can visit the sites no problem, but I'm set in my ways and I want my Internet Explorer to work properly)

I had similar issues back in February..
Try this: Uninstall the antivirus, or, disable it from startup. A lot of times AV software will cause invalid memory address accesses (which would be solved most likely by a reinstall of the AV software). All of that would take about 15 minutes of testing and rebooting to see if it fixes it.

If not, Try this: If your computer is set to apply DEP (Data Execution Prevention) to all programs and services, the DEP error message will have a Change Settings button. If an update to the program is not available, follow these steps to add an exception for the program from the DEP error message:
1.   When you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, click Change Settings.
2.   Click to select the check box next to the program, and then click Apply.
3.   When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK two times, and then restart your system.

ALSO/OR:
You can also add an exception for the program by using System Properties in Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:
1.   Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
2.   Click the Advanced tab, click Performance, and then click Settings.
3.   In Performance Options, click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Add.
4.   In the Open dialog box, locate and then click the program.
5.   Click Open, click Apply, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK.

It's more than likely your anti-virus though.

Good Luck!

I recently helped a friend upgrade to a new computer, as his previous one was over 8 years old.

As he wrote out his list of parts, he handed it to me and I looked it over...

He actually put "Network card" on it!! How long has it been since motherboard manufacturers made that a standard addition???

I laughed at him and pointed at him while doing so. I knew he was out of the loop regarding computers, but I didn't know he was THAT out of the loop!

:D

So now he's up and running with a brand new computer, complete with USB 2.0!! Also, he was flabbergasted when he realized that burning a movie DVD from content procured from the internet in a completely legal manner would only take 30 minutes as opposed to 7 hours!!

(p.s. his old processor was under a GIG!!! Can you believe it??)

that's nothing. I'm reading this from a 450 mhz G4 Cube. I of corse have a new computer as well, but computers from the turn of the century still function okay for surfing the net.

A few months back, a friend of mine who's family runs an optomatrist office, his father had his computer rebuilt for $1600.. It was upgraded to a Pentium 3 1.8ghz processor, with 2 - 256 DDR sticks of memory, and what ever motherboard I have no clue..
It has been taken back to him 3 times since; each time being charged $150.00 and it's still not right! They keep going back to him cause he's a 'friend' of their family ::)

Damn! With friends like that, I'd rather work with my enemies ???

gammer

wow, thats expensive.

I only charge $100 to do a Windows re-install...and that includes doing all the updates and backup up data and putting it back.
