Well...I bought the DVD to Planet Terror, and the film burn-out comes just at the right time. It itself is a kinda joke. It burns out right at the sex scene and cuts right to the burning restaurant.  The extended version of PT was just a couple of extra scneces with the Sheriif and the BBQ cook.  Nothing like the missing reels in Death Proof.  I got a bootleg of the full grindhouse, so i'll watch that if i want the full experience.  And I could care less about the pops and scratches in the print....they were on the PT dvd, but the weren't on most of the DP dvd.  But i would like them to release the full theatrical edition on DVD.  Screw what their vision was........its called an after-market, get used to it.  most people dont have a nostalgic love of theaters like they do.

You could even argue that the bootleg audio/video quality gives the movie more of the Grindhouse 'feel' that Rodgriguez and Tarantino were shooting for.
I've sort of fused Flashdance with MC Hammer shit.

Well, the filmmakers intended the films to look fucked up. True, they had the option to release the films without the filters, but, then again, the Coen brothers also had the option to release The Man Who Wasn't There in color:

(This is NOT colorized - the film was shot and edited in color and converted to black and white in post-production.)

Hardly the same concept.  The scratches and pops in the theatrical release was supposed to make the films look like it had been playing over and over and over again in some low-rent piece of crap theater. But for home consumption they should have dropped the 'theater" gimmicks. Home viewing will never be the same experience as the theater.

Should the studios leave the cigarette burns on DVD releases as well? That is how they are in the theaters after all.  How about those annoying as shit watermark dots that are constantly flashing through ALL films in theaters now?

I was saying that the films look messed up on DVD because Rodriguez and Tarantino intended them to be seen that way. Other films don't have those flaws on the DVD transfers because their directors didn't intend for them to be shown that way.

Snooze.  I'm snoozing here.  You guys are boring me.  Stop boring me.

If you saw movies in the 70's, Planet Terror would make you weep at the artistry.  Also--- I am full of crap.  Disregard everything I say.  I have a cold.

If you want to see the theatrical version including all the fake trailers it is running on Starz. It is panned and scanned (the trailers are letterboxed) I didn't get to check it out on STarz HD so i don't know if it show there in the full 2.35:1 aspect ratio or the more common 1:78:1 that they use on HD channels. Really pisses me off they didn't include the trailers on either GH disc and cable gets the theatrical version.

Planet Terror was shot in HD, and Death Proof was shot in Super 35, so the films weren't panned and scanned, just reformatted. The fullscreen versions actually show more on the top and bottom of the screen, though the frame is a little cropped on the sides.

Good to know. Hopefully someone will rip the Starz hd version and upload it.

Oddly enough, for some reason we received a copy of Grindhouse to play at our cinema last week.  Both films are available individually on DVD, and we exhibited both seperately too, so we have no idea why we got it.  It was nice to see the entire thing at the cinema though!

Yeah for that price and the fact the first four discs are what was released here I will be waiting. Probably for a long time considering how long it has been since we were supposed to get the Kill Bill special editions. I really wish the Weinsteins would go away.

...

Oooohhh, pretty. Me want, me want... but not at that price. I like the option of watching each film individually or as it was released in the theater (complete with fake scratches and missing reels, perhaps?) I can only hope that since this whole package has been put together legitimately, that it will eventually get a Region-1 release sometime soon. But like Torso said, we're still waiting on The Whole Bloody Affair... so i won't hold my breath. But i won't be buying the individual DVDs either!
