We used the directors cut edition, available from Netflix.

Not sure what the difference between that and the regular release are.

One of the most ridiculous movies I've seen in a while, and lots of fun too.  Should be a great one.
The difference between the regular and the unrated director's cut is one convinces kids that it's somehow more "extreme" but including brief shots that aren't anything special beyond the fact that the MPAA didn't review them.

Anyone remember the good old days when "Director's Cut" and "Unrated Version" actually meant something?

Oh yeah, good pick for Rifftrax's first full length animated film.  I went to see it because Gaiman's treatment of Beowulf had been floating around Hollywood for more than a decade and I wanted to see how it turned out.  It's got the right balance of material for riffing.

Well there IS naked Angelina Jolie, I didn't see it in theaters but she's REALLY naked (yeah, and ok, really compu-brushed) in this cut.

And fortytwice, nice work...at least as good as the movie effects were.  :)

Well, yeah...  Anything with a naked Angelina (even if it's animated) is OK in my book!

I just got this today and I have to admit that it is ALOT better than I expected it to be. It does deviate from the classic story for the sake of Jolie, but ironically, at least to me, she seems fit the part as she is the beautiful demon who ruined Lara Croft!

The best part of the movie is

Ever wondered what would happen if cartoons were ultra realistic and made by creepy, possibly bisexual pervs on pot?

BEOWULF!

GalvaTRION

I note a lot of disdain for this movie- understandably. However, in it's defense, it's a barely PG13 animated movie, that ISN'T an anime, that made some decent money in theaters (sure, it didn't make it's money BACK, but it's a hell of a step up from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). I enjoyed it, and being an animation fan who is sick and fucking tired of anime and kids shows, I see this movie as a moral victory.

Also, easily riffable and hammy as hell.

bratpop

Final Fantasy was a great, unique film that everyone (though mainly just Bob Zemeckis) is now ripping off, but never for the right project, like say a Superman movie. Plus, it had a hot chick in it who doesn't exist. Beowulf has Angelina Jolie in it, who does exist, except they made a version of her which isn't real, which is pointless pandering and very exploitative, to make us think we're actually watching the actress instead of just letting it be a character. Same with Malkovich. There was no point in this. The whole movie, like most overhyped movies, is just pure pandering.

torgosPizza

So... by NOT copying what they did in Final Fantasy, he's ripping them off? I'm confused. Please explain your logic.

My apologies for not wading though a few hundred posts to see if this question has been asked yet...

But what version is going to be riffed, the Theatrical or the Animated Nudity version?

I remember reading a review where the reviewers said the only things missing  were energy bars over the guys during fights because it looked like an XBox 360 game...

We all know the best rule of thumb is to use they exact same one RiffTrax used.

I never underestimate people's inability to follow directions, so us forum regulars saying

USE THE UNRATED DIRECTORS CUT

bears repeating.
