I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they know that we prefer DRM free, and really don't need it repeated. :^)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they didn't. so naw  :P

With this whole DivX thing, I thought yay I can watch them on my fancy DivX player, so I can burn Divx discs, but alas it tells me I dont have authorization when I put it in my player. wtf! I have no idea how to get around that. Especially since I obviously have authorization, being I bought the damn thing. Sorry kind of angers me.

You have to first, burn an authorization DVD (which has your DVD player code in it) on your DVD, then you can play your Divx shorts

Yeah, chalk up another "I was just about to buy it, but saw it wasn't DRM free and didn't" for me.

For the Rifftrax overlords... once you put the shorts out DRM free, I will gladly hand over my money for the ones I haven't purchased.  (I haven't "pirated" them either)

It took the music industry a while to understand that DRM doesn't do anything to limit illegal copying.  And once you free up the DRMed filed I will gladly be there with bells on.

I completely understand the reason for not offering that on movies you don't have the rights to, but your DVD player is a GREAT solution.

For other riffs that you do that are public domain, I am going to vote with my wallet and not purchase any until they are DRM free and easy for me to transfer to the player medium of my choice (iPod, Laptop, iPhone, PSP, etc.)

By putting the DRM on the files, you are only inconveniencing your loyal law abiding fans.  I have the technical means and aptitude to sync them up myself, but sometimes it just isn't worth my time and effort.  It is a shame when the easiest/most efficient method to get media you want (and are Willing To Pay For (or Have Paid For)) is to find the "cracked" version.

Again, it is a lesson the music industry has finally learned, and it is a lesson the Movie industry is also learning now.

As near as I can tell, I have purchased EVERY movie riff you have done, I just draw the line at the DRMed riffs of Public Domain files.

Please continue to do great work on the public "shorts", and when they are DRM free I will gladly return with my wallet in hand.

Businesses seem to learn no other way.

Considering that I still had to re-author the Terrible Truth because I didn't like the audio at all as far a I care they can all be loaded with DRM up the butt! I am just glad they give us the mp3.

Ditto!

Ditto to the ditto.

Yeah, I know this attitude is selfish...in regards to the folks who re-author. Sorry 'bout that, but so far this hasn't affected me because we get the MP3 given to us.

I remember when RiffTrax first announced they were going to release the shorts on DivX. Everyone thought "wicked, we can get the video and audio mixed into one and it will be easy to watch". I also think that folks thought it would just be an avi file encoded with the DivX codec...not the DRM .divx file that only plays in the DivX player.
Anyways, I'm not going to  :deadhorse: ...I know they know how I feel about the subject.

If I only knew what that meant  ???

never mind, I do know what that means, now I just cannot find my activation ID for my device. This is so needlessly complicated, but thank you for leading me in the right direction.

Yeah, it's usually buried somewhere in the setup menu. I was able to find it on my Toshiba under a miscellaneous player setup menu.

Quicksilver

I just got it all setup. You know I had to put a VOD divx containing disk in to get the player to reveal its product activation ID. That's just stupid. So it assumes you dont know what you're doing and only lets you see the code once you try to play a VOD file, even then it's still buried in setup menus.

None the less, it's actually quite amazing, I put all my shorts and movies from VOD on one disk, with tons and tons of room to spare. Pretty cool.

Oh and the picture quality is top notch, not bad for $40.

Huh, my DVD player didn't require that. Obviously it varies by manufacturer how their setup procedure works (and they should really document it in their instructions better).

Glad you got it working, though.

Quicksilver

I feel like I'm doing the no-drm people injustice, by liking the product, but I'll tell what, burning a divx cd was easier than making toast. Drag, drop and burn, right from the divx player.

I'm neither pro or anti divx at this point.  It is so easy to reauthor my own shorts, that as long as they keep giving us the .mp3's I have no complaints.
