I'd be more than willing to create a Mac client for .riff files, and to release any useful parts of that client for use in other projects. But I haven't been able to figure out the .riff file format. I've asked the original authors, but they have been unwilling to share any technical details; has anyone else had any luck reverse engineering the file format?

It's obviously some sort of archive that contains audio data and some sort of synchronization mapping -- I've decoded bits of the header structure, but I still really have no idea how the file is put together. Anyone have ideas? Or maybe someone has an Intel machine they could do some debugging on to see how the Windows-based player works -- unfortunately I'm still on a PPC here, so I'm out-of-luck in trying to run Windows programs.

It's probably just a coincidence... but you know there is a pre-existing RIFF file format: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIFF_(File_format)

I would take a look at a rifftrax .riff file under Linux, but My account doesn't reflect any of the rifftrax files that I ordered ever since their store change... how sad for me.

They are supposedly working on a Mac version.  Judging by the poll on the homepage, people really want one.  If somebody could figure out why the windows player doesn't work on my Mac in Parallels that would be cool.

You know, if they released the format, it wouldn't be hard to code up VLC to handle it with a plug in.

VLC, if you don't know, is pretty much the all around be all of media players for Linux, and it runs on Linux, Windows, and MacOS.

If the format was published, I could provide the Linux version to work with VLC, but when I'll get time is anybody's guess.

Just send an email to support at rifftrax.com and they will set you up a new account or add these previous purchases to the one you have.  Just use the same email address you used to buy them originally.
