Audio Problems (mpeg-2)

On the mpeg-2 edition the audio from the movie drops out entirely when mike and the guys are riffing. I don't mind a decrease in volume, but cutting to pure silence is like being on a rollercoster ride that drives strait and smooth until dropping you off a cliff periodically.

Really? Hadn't noticed... we'll check it out and if it's really that bad we'll upload a replacement file.

FYI the same settings for the renders were used on all 4 versions. You might also try another version and see if it sounds better. Thanks!

The ducking is kind of rough. Along with the original audio. I downloaded the original short so I could fix up the original audio and get rid of the hum and hiss.  My mix came out pretty good.

Yeah I just mentioned that in the other thread. I ended up making my own dub because of that.

Okay, yeah I did notice that in some spots the riffer audio gets a little TOO low. Is that what you're noticing? It seems sort of uneven throughout. We'll fix it and update the files, but it'll have to be on Monday.

(And remember as long as you bought it you'll have access to all the files for it - even once they're updated)

I wondered about that. Thanks for the heads up MrTorso.
BTW, what did you use to reduce the hum/hiss? I found a filter in Adobe Audactiy that is by far the best one I've ever used for removing hiss.

The hiss didn't bother me very much at all.  The only problem is that the riffing isn't set to the short's volume.  If it just did that it would be fine, plus you wouldn't have to duck the volume so much.

I used Goldwave for the noise reduction and I also matched the riff volume to the movie volume.

Yeah, we'll take another run at the audio if it's really that bad. It's kind of silly to offer the merged video if it's unwatchable. Although I gotta say I did watch it on my iPod and it didn't seem that bad. Maybe I'm just deaf or something.

What I've noticed, with these shorts in particular, is that even though you match the volume's, the riffing sounds quieter then the movie audio. Its weird because when you look at the two audio's in GoldWave, they are matched and the peaks look the same, but when you listen, the movie audio sounds louder. Thats why for these shorts I make the RiffTrax audio slightly louder then the movie and still ad some mild audio ducking too. It all works out, trust me ;)

FYI, i have no audio at all with the mpeg-2 either . the divx file works fine though for me.

You might need a ac3 codec installed on your computer.

I'll just add my 2 cents to this. I downloaded the DivX version and the audio was a bit wacky on mine, as well. The original video's audio (which sounded horrible, but that's not RiffTrax's fault) was way too loud compared to the riffing. I had to turn the volume up way past what was comfortable to hear the riffs (even with the ducking).

Other than that, though. Very good. Thanks for the DRM-free short. I like :)

I don't think there is a problem.  The original video's audio is just really bad.

i need to crank the volume to hear the riffs on both the DIVX and the Mpeg version.
