Okay.  We know that Grillslinger will be grilling food for us.  But what about drinks?  Should we each give $5.00 to someone and have that person get all of the drinks before the meet-up?  Or should we each bring our own drinks?

Also, what if Grillslinger can't make it and therefore can't grill for us?  What's our Plan B?  Pizza?

Let me know what you guys think.

I think we should set up a flat fee for any one that plans on drinking and eating, say $10 bucks a person should be plenty for beer, soda, water, and food.

Also what do you guys and gals think of this idea?
you know what we should really do?
We should meet up at dusk and get the permit to project movies in the park or do it some where we can project a movie and play some rifftrax's, mst3k, CT, and maybe do a bit of live riffing ourselves.

Ofcourse this would be a bit more of planning and work than we had originally planned but it would be a lot of fun.

If that were to happen someone who lives in San Diego would have to get  the permit.  You can learn more about the permits here:

http://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/general-info/permits.shtml#developed

Also, I've been checking the Comic-Con website and it looks like all of the hotel rooms in the downtown San Diego area are sold out during the days of the Con.  So, you'll probably have to look for hotels on the outskirts of San Diego if you don't already have a room.

But, if you insist on finding a place to stay downtown you might want to look into renting out an apartment if you're planning on staying for more than just a couple of days.  If you're there for about a week it'll cost you just about as much as renting out a hotel for the same amount of time.

Here are some apartments that are close to the Comic-Con:

101 Market Apartments
101 Market Street

Six Hundred Front
600 Front Street

Market Street Square Apartments
606 3rd Avenue

At this point I'll be rooming with my brother, Sideswipe, and maybe another friend of mine.  But if my friend pulls out I'll have a spot open in my hotel room.  So, PM me if you'd be willing to take my friends spot if he decides not to come.

Wow! n This sounds great!  Sign me up.  I'd love to do a rifftrax meet up and what not.  I live in Vista, SD, SOCAL and I'd totally cruise down . . . . I think!

MisterC

Cool.  I live in San Diego (okay, technically Pine Valley, but it's part of SD County), so I'll definitely be heading there.

Anyone in San Diego area up for a meet-up before this summer's meetup?

I've been looking through some of San Diego's park websites and it looks like no alcohol is allowed in Mission Bay Park.  So, I'm moving the meet-up to Balboa Park.  They allow alcohol in some outdoor areas of their park from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  I'll be calling them later this week to reserve a spot in the park.

If any of you have a problem with that please let me know.  Otherwise, I"ll post here once the reservation's been confirmed.

I know I mentioned Balboa Park in the other thread, but I haven't yet worked out where in the park would work for a meet-up.  It's pretty big, and I don't know which areas are cleared for alcohol consumption -- at the moment, most of the park is OK, but they've been talking lately about limiting booze to a few select areas.  Also, I don't know of any areas that are set up as "picnic areas" with tables and the like, so we might end up having to bring tables and chairs if we go with Balboa.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward something like Kate Sessions park in Pacific Beach, which allows booze, has tables and grills, and has a killer view of Mission Bay to boot.

If you can hold off until next week to reserve a spot, I should have some time this week to tromp around Balboa Park and see what's available.

Stacey

I was just going to say the same thing about scoping about Balboa Park to find a good place for us to set up, Steve. I'm thinking we might (or might not) want to avoid the areas where guys troll each other and get busted in the bathrooms. :P

Pacific Beach sounds just as good, so whatever works for you guys.

Speaking of edumacation, I'll be attending my 20 year high school reunion :speechless: the last weekend in July I'm afraid.. :'(

BUT, when I turn 40 in June of 2009, I'm planning to go to Hawaii, and I may try for a stop-over in San Diego for a day or two to maybe.. stop by headquarters for a brief visit in case anyone wanted my autograph..  ::)
