DaPenguin is on his medication now and will be explaining all clues to you at a later time.

Good work everyone. We broke several records today (and broke our server - but we are working to fix that) and I think this was the most fun we've had on the board, even if it was frustrating in the process. Just remember, next time ... think OUTSIDE the box! :)

Look for DaPenguin's post soon..

Please explain the clues. Especially the swear one. :^)
I second that.

I would like it noted that I was the one who suggested that the emoticon was Gandalf. ;D

But I still don't see how any of the other statements from DaPenguin, or how anything in the SA podcast--other than the comment by mike that was bleeped, which we were told to disregard--were supposed to have led us to this conclusion.

And how was David on the right track with the "N00ches" hint?

Sampo (:::head a'scratchin':::)

n00ches was one of the answers in the Asparagus quiz.

The only frustrating thing in this contest was the amount of unhelpful and pointless posts that were made in this thread.  It made it hard to fish out what was important.  I humbly request that people try to limit their posting in these contests, and only speak up if you have something worthwhile to contribute.

I'm sure when people posted they felt that they were contributing something worthwhile.

In which we learn that the symbols meant nothing, and from here on out we'll be poring through every single piece of HTML code on the Internet, despite a complete lack of anything in the clues to suggest we should be doing so.

Fun!

Don't get all frustrated yet. Your unscrambling skills are epic. We'll need you again.

Oh, I'm not bitter.  Not really.  It's not as if I'm paying for this entertainment.

I was just hoping at the end of this thing, I'd be looking at a chain of clues that clearly lead from one to the next, and saying to myself, "Aw, crap, I should have gotten that"; as opposed to me saying, "So, wait, I was supposed to throw the tape library at the rat-ant nest?  What the fuck?"

Oh, well.  Next time for sure.

I think for me, it would be handy if there were a better/easier way to skip across pages of the thread. You only get to see the last three links and the first one or two. If I go away for a little while, then come back later to find the thread's gone on 20 more pages, it takes forever to get back to where I left off. That's more of a tech peeve, but it was interesting, that's for sure.

You're right.  But that's a limitation of the forum software, and I suspect the mods don't have much ability to change it.

Perhaps next time we should pop open a parallel thread, wherein we place only "official" clues to the puzzle as we receive them.  All of our blind groping can still go in the main thread.

Seconded. Good idea. Only clues and definitive leads. No guesses.

That's a really good idea, Steve-O.
