In all honesty, I have to tell you that after having truly "endured" writing for Batman & Robin, I now understand that there really ARE movies that cannot be riffed. I, personally, beleive that both Dune and Red Dawn are unriffable, due to the difficulty that would be involved in actually sitting through 20 viewings of it and trying to be sane enough to write humorous material. Sorry.

You're probably just burned out at the moment.. Leave the Riffing scripts to some fresh mental cases :P

QuoteTo be honest, this may be the first Rifftrax I don't buy.  Sorry.
Well again, if you haven't heard the Harry Potter riff, you really don't know what you're talking about. Did I mention it's FREE? Besides, that riff didn't have the genius groundbreaking writing of me.

QuoteThere's no reason to apologize for stating your opinion.
Except it's an opinion about something he hasn't heard, and assumes isn't good because "Mike" didn't write it. Noooo Mike! *whistle* You seem to be forgetting that MIKE, KEVIN, and BILL will be RIFFING this. It doesn't matter who wrote what they say. The funniest of THOUSANDS of riffs by MST3k and Rifftrax fans were chosen. And the riffers will make them even funnier, because they've been doing this for years. Connor writes some of the riffs. Do you think you know which ones? You don't. Do you think you could tell which riffs on MST3k were written by Mike, and not Trace, Joel, Kevin, Mary Jo, Bridget, or Paul Chaplin? You're wrong. The "Mike's superior writing" idea is a FANTASY. Mike's been reading other people's riffs for YEARS. This is only different in your mind.

Besides, Chris has a degree from the DAVE School. So you know he's funny.

I actually DID try to listen to the Harry Potter Riff,  but the audio issues sort of ruined it for me (one of the guys must have had the microphone too close).  Plus I was a little Harry Potter'd out.  I heard they sorted the audio stuff out, so I'll try their next one (TRON I think).

I'm not saying that I don't think Rifftrax fans are funny, because I do.  I think the Riffraff guys could be pretty good, assuming they try to get their own identity, rather than write stuff that Mike, Kevin, and Bill would say, or have said.  That would be my complaint about the Batman and Robin fan written Rifftrax.  Almost every line was a reference to other Rifftrax movies.

All that aside, it was pretty nice of Mike to do the fan-written rifftrax, which was really all about the fans getting their lines spoken by the best (which must have been really cool).

That's weird.  I was just thinking to myself how pleasantly few of those sorts of lines there were in the track.

There were a few too many quotes from Star Wars and such for my tastes, but given the fanbase that wrote the script, that's hardly surprising and kind of endearing.

bratpop

The only riffs I DIDN'T like were the RIfftrax and MST3K references, since I knew it was just in the script. But there weren't that many and it didn't ruin it.

Chaos

In fact, we SPECIFICALLY avoided making "RiffTrax staple jokes," hence why there was no reference to Rachel Ray (even though she's a tool), or Schnappi (despite about 15 people trying to make a funny reference to him in their scripts). The one thing we did not want to be accused of was not being able to think of our jokes and needing to "steal" jokes from RiffTrax.

Chris and I *did* try to inject a little bit of the style of Mike, Bill, and Kevin into our own material, since this was, after all, a RIFFTRAX riff, but other than that, I think we all did quite well of bringing our own funny instead of just copying someone else's. And though some may disagree about what level of other-movie-referencing is appropriate, the fact that it was ultimately written by fans does tend to lend itself to a slightly higher percentage of referential material... which is fine by me.

Huh, I only made a reference to Rachey Ray because she's Rachel Ray. I wasn't aware she was a staple. The only Rachel Ray reference I heard was in the Harry Potter RRR.

Chaos

I don't know if I would call her an official staple, but Mike certainly seems to have a lot of dislike for her. It's been mentioned in a few other places besides in Trax, and there have been several jokes about her in the last dozen or so.

Wait, Chris is involved with the DAVE school? Do you know Daren Dochterman?

I don't know the name, though the school is small enough that he's (at most) one degree separated.

I was there in two stretches... Oct 2002 - Dec 2003, and Aug 2006 - July 2007.

ChrisHanel

You just described 85% of the DAVE School's student body.

Though from the sound of it, he worked on Star Trek: New Voyages, so he would have been in the class that graduated before me.
