Hi all...

So, I'm trying to start a new movment. A return to the celebration of TurkeyDay... The way it should be.

I have made a tradition out of watching MST3K every Thanksgiving since the original "TURKEY DAY" marathon way back in 1992. -- but I always get an empty feeling when I watch it alone. So now I gather as many freinds as I can to watch it with me - and I encurage others to give it a try.

At my house, MOVIE SIGN starts at Noon the day after Thanksgiving and goes as long as there are people to watch it with me. Folks bring MST3K Tapes, DVD's, Puppets ... Etc.. and this year I get to add RiffTraks to the mix. HOOPA!

I encurage folks to adopt the spirit of the day by stayng home from the mall, bloating yourself on pie, and watching MST3K all night till your eyes bleed!

Spread the word
And for folks in the Seattle area - Come on over...   :)

That's an excellent idea there. If I wasn't on the other side of the country, I would definitely come to your Turkey Day. Alas, I'll be spending most of my Turkey Day alone with my MST recordings. *sniffle*

Edit: Wow, I just clicked your link. I hereby nominate Cheyenne for RiffTrax Fan of the Month for November. Or something. Give him some kind of prize!

You know, despite the fact that I'm Canadian, and I technically had my thanksgiving way back in October, that actually sounds like fun.  I think I'll have myself a TurkeyDay Rifftrax marathon and stuff the crap out of a small roasting chicken or something.

My friend Michelle once told me of this weird tradition her family had before her dad died: because her father's family was rich, and her grandfather is a grumpy, over-bearing patriarch with one foot in the grave, every year at thanksgiving proper they would have to troop over to his house, with their stuffy relatives, and have a stiff, awkward thanksgiving dinner where everybody tried not to make grandfather unhappy.  So on American thanksgiving, her family got so that she would take the day off school, her parents would take the day off work, and they would all stay home together.  Her mother would stuff a small roasting chicken, she would watch football with her dad, and they would altogether have a hassle-free, small but meaningful thanksgiving dinner together, just the three of them.

Wow. The true spirit of Thanksgiving.  :)  I'd wonder what happened to it. I guess it ran off to Canada.

Post-Turkeyday Wrap-up.

I made a list of all the MST3K films I had on tap and put them in a ice bucket, there after dubbed the "Bucket o' Cheeze". We then laid out a nice selection of pies and soda pop while waiting for the first folks to show up

Movie Sign kicked off at noon with a pull from the bucket --- Episode 519 "Outlaw (of Gor)". Pie consumption was slow as most folks just couldn't find their appetites with all those buffalo shots. Eventually was over and it was back to the bucket for....

Episode 421 "Monster a Go-Go"...

...there was much suffering

Needless to say after that we were ready for something, ANYTHING resembling a plot.

None of us had tried out Rifftrax before and we were not sure how good it would be. I had sent off a list to everyone the week before asking which  movie interested them the most. Everyone seemed to agree on "Roadhouse" so I had reluctantly added it to my Netflix queue.

I say reluctantly because --  I had also never seen the film before. I just never caught it when it came out, or on it's multiple USA channel airings. I had heard how bad it was I never wanted to shell out the cash to rent it. I was also worried that it just wasn't going to be 'as good' as MST3K with just Mike riffing alone.

So there we are -- 9 hardcore MSTies crammed into my TV room ready to try out this "Rifftrax" thing. Let me say -- I was SO wrong. Maybe it was just the "monster a go-go" talking but it was FANTASTIC! I had a blast, we all did. All hail the Rifftrax!!!

After that it was back to the bucket and Ep 105 "The Corpse Vanishes".

We tried to get through it. We really did... but after Roadhouse, it was a hard sell. We stopped the episode about 40min in and pulled a new one from the Bo'C. This time we got Ep 306 "Time of the Apes", then we followed that with "Racket Girls". By the time that was over everyobe was itching for more Rifftrax.

I had a copy of "Fellowship"... but it was closing in on 8pm and none of us were up for the Tolkien epic at the time -- so instead, we raided my neighbors DVD collection and found a copy of "The Matrix". I set to downloading the trax while the room watched a clip of Will Shatner's "Rocket Man" to maintain our Cheeze factor.

Again -- High praise to Mike and Kevin.

About half the folks that were there for Roudhouse were gone by then but replaced with many of my late-rising gothy friends. Everyone loved it and ALL wanted the Rifftrax URL by the time it was over.

After that I put on "Werewolf" to scare off the stragglers and ended the night by 1am.

All-in-all it was a great night, and everyone wants to make Rifftrax a regular Friday-night thing. We are going to crack open Fellowship next week and see what happens from there.

Thanks for all the hard lifting Mike!
best wishes for the Holidays from the Wright family
