Ugh, why do Asian movie remakes always have to be PG-13??

I mean, just look:

A Tale of Two Sisters - rated R (remake might be PG-13)
One Missed Call - rated R (remake is PG-13)
The Eye - rated R (again, remake is PG-13)
Pulse aka Kairo - rated R (the crappy remake was edited for PG-13)
Ju-On - rated R (The Grudge was PG-13)

Why? Why do you have to dumb down remakes to appeal to an audience of idiots(teenagers)? Especially in the cases of A Tale of Two Sisters and One Missed Call. Why bother dumbing these two down?! A Tale of Two Sisters has a huge amount of violence that makes it way scarier, and One Missed Call is a Takashi Miike film! What are we going to expect from a PG-13 remake of a Miike film?!

It's our revenge for dropping the A-Bomb on them and putting all the Japanese in camps, they don't seem to realize yet how much emotional damage us doing that to them has caused us

The trailer for American remake of The Eye is awful, giving away the twist that was so great in the original.  Stupid people.

PG-13 movies make the most money.

Kids who can't get into R movies without their parents are the biggest part of the movie going public.  And going somewhere without your parents is the point of going to movies (or anywhere).

The real question is "Why do Asian movie remakes suck big time, all the time?"

They could have added buckets and buckets of blood to any of the remade movies and that would not have helped them at all.

Ah, but if the remakes are all PG-13 this means there'll be a bigger audience. And a bigger audience means more Rifftrax potential. Mike, get on it!

I fear for the upcoming Battle Royale remake.

Yes, this worries me as well.

I just can't see an American film showing 40 kids getting killed.... maybe they'll make them all robots.  Robot Children.
I've sort of fused Flashdance with MC Hammer shit.

wait, Battle Royale is getting remade? Sweet!!!

Also, I like remakes. I agree that the failure rate is high but trying is better than no effort at all.

I would rather Hollywood try and have an original idea for once and stop re-making movies. Also the problem with the remakes is that they usually change what made them popular in the first place.

Ahhh, the "Me Against the World" mentality of fandom, and blaming everything on the younger generation.

The ratings have nothing to do with "dumbing down."  They have to do with CONTENT.  Blood and sex, particularly.  The plot could be complicated or surreal as hell and still have low content (David Lynch's Dune is a very complicated movie and its only PG-13).

The real reason these remakes suck is because there are actually ADULTS in Japan.  There are none in America.

Please tell me this is a joke.

Production has been delayed, but we'll be getting it eventually. At the most, I hope this means an offical DVD release of the original for the US.

Indeed.  No doubt that's the reason for Japan's great love of soiled panty vending machines, and Boong-ga-Boong-ga.

Ju-On was rated R?  Seriously?  What the hell was in Ju-On that warranted an R rating?

Maybe the problem is not so much a "dumbing down" of remakes as it is a really crappy job of rating the original Japanese versions.

The thing about a Battle Royale sequel is that it could benefit greatly from an increased budget. The original was decent, but had more of an independent feel to it (similar to Series 7 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251031/)

I would personally like to see this style movie with a big budget (and no the Condemned doesn't count) ... if you guys don't like the remakes don't go see them. Simple as that.
