I could be wrong but I'm assuming that I'm the only one on Rifftrax.com that owns the 10 disc "Ultimate Matrix" DVDs? Well if that answer is yes then allow me to continue talking to myself, just kidding the rest of you can listen too. Mike isn't the first (or even the second) person to record a dvd riff of a Matrix film. I am glad to say however that he is the funniest to do so (as well as the first person to riff Matrix 1).

The two tracks(matrix 2, 3)that "riff" the matrix, basically tear apart the films from a movie critic perspective (ie; Ebert & Ropert) while the first commentary track (matrix 1) praises the film (and rightfully so).

So now that I've got everyones interest...
The Wachowski Brother's (any spelling errors are mine however:))

Excerpt from paragraph 5, page 2 of introduction (hey i spared you guys a whole page :))          (continued below)

"...Warner Bros, who remain virtuously patient with us, asked what exactly we had in mind. We told them we imagined two different tracks: the first being a conversation between philosophers who enjoyed the films, while the second would have film critics who did not. If we would have had the time and more importantly the space for more tracks, we would have added philosophers who didn't like the movies and critics who did. The point was not to suggest that one was right and one was wrong, rather the point was the juxtaposition of perspective so that in the implied dialogue that takes place between the two tracks, the viewer would be offered reference points with which they might triangulate their own position. One or the other would never be as interesting as both, nor could one ever say as much about the very question that we started with. We knew however that for some this would be a pretty hard pill to swallow. It was obviously unconventional and considering the reaction of our friends and family that listened to it, potentially combustible.

Warner Bros. again with the patience of saints asked for clarification, 'let us get this straight. You want to get a few critics to sit in a room and kill the movies for six hours and you want us to pay for it?'. Right. 'And you think your fans are going to want to listen to this?'. Well, we think our fans are interested in a different kind of experience and that while the critics will undoubtedly exasperate and infuriate them, we think our fans will understand what we are trying to do. 'And what exactly are you trying to do?' Find an answer. 'An answer to what?'. An answer to "why?"

We encourage the consciously curious to flip back and fourth going from complexity to simplicity, from internal to external, and somewhere between the search and the denial of meaning, we ask the curious to "make up their own damn mind." - As always we thank you for your support, The Wachowski Brothers

Interesting. I picked up the 10 disc behemoth edition (with Neo bust) real cheap when MediaPlay was going out of business. Haven't work up the nerve to check out the audio commentaries, though. Interesting how the Wachowskis didn't record a commentary. They may think they're remaining inscrutable, but it's just further evidence that they have no clue what the hell's happening either.

I thought that the Matrix sequels were excellent. 8)
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

Ha!

The Matrix sequels had good bits in them, but mainly I found them to be a huge disappointment.

Ha.  Bits.  Some think the sequels really byte, though.

1. Ahh, Media Play... I still have over a year on my reward card :-
2. Yup, you should definetly listen to them because it was the main reason I bought the 10 disc behemoth as you called it. As for myself, I cant resist DVD commentary, how bad am I you ask?... it is essential for a dvd purchase
3.Its even funny how if you watch these tracks in sequence they go from trying not to offend the Wachowskis in their criticisms, to flat out groaning over the stupidity of the sequels. ;D

I wonder if the Wachowski Brothers will listen to mike's riff track? They did after all let three critics lambaste their beloved sequels on the "ultimate" edition.

1. Have you gotten that mailer asking you to switch you Replay Rewards card over to FYE's Screw You Over Somehow I'm Sure Of It membership card? (I worked at FYE - I'm a little bitter.)

2. I love audio commentaries, but only if they're lively and/or very informative. For instance, I've listened to the commentaries on every episode of Futurama because they're both interesting and funny. But when a  commentary starts to have that "Let's pat each other on the back and kiss each other's asses" tone I turn it off. Life's too short to listen to some "filmmaker" tell me what a great job he did.

Yup got it and discarded it!

Futurama- good taste, the excellent commentaries almost make me want to buy all the Simpson's dvds (then I snap out of it and remember I would go broke doing so). I almost always hate "actor" commentaries, but occasionally I am slightly amused by their attempts at wit.

I stopped buying the Simpsons DVDs after season, um, *looks over at shelf* season 3 after realizing I had seen all these episodes about a bazillion times already. I'm tempted to start picking them up again now that the sets are getting into episodes I've only seen once or twice at most. As for the commentaries, I've only listened to the earliest ones and wasn't that impressed. I think the problem is that they were recorded a good ten years or more after production and most of the guys could barely remember the episodes they were meant to be commenting on, leading to long periods of silence as they just watched the episode for the first time in a decade, interspersed with comments mostly centered on how crappy the old shows look now. But I do love how Matt Groening can't seem to get through a commentary without sheepishly mentioning he's never seen the movie/tv show they're parodying.

One of my favorite commentaries is on the new edition of Free Enterprise. It strikes a fun balance between the goofing around and making-of factoids of the director and two leads, and the absurd musings on the subject of heroism from the Shatner. (And calling Yoda "Yodo." I mean, come on Bill. Yodo?)

Minnesota

I here ya man, Simpson's episodes are shown on tv everyday, its hard to justify a purchase unless they are newer episodes. For Futurama, I love the season 1 commentaries the best... such optimism.

Seeing as this is still a matrix thread, I cant seem to recall futurama or the simpsons ever doing a Matrix parody? I think even family guy hasn't parodied it, anyone else think of any Matrix parodies

I may be imagining it, but I think Futurama may have used the Matrix glowy green descending code at some point, and I'm pretty sure both Simpsons and Family Guy must have used the slo mo bullet time effect.

The best part of the Futurama commentaries is when John DiMaggio starts laughing and it sounds like Bender's there in the booth. I forget what episode it was, but as the closing credits started someone said "It's so sad to think that most of these people are dead now," and John cackled like mad for rest of the track.
