QuoteSo you admit he's a scumbag then?

All I did was point out that there was more to his background and the Catholic League than you were stating, and I wanted to clarify it.  That's all there was to it. In no way did I defend what the man thinks, says, or does.  Please don't put words in my mouth, or read more into what was there-- this side discussion is hijacking the thread, and I am sure the other posters would appreciate it if we returned to the topic at hand.

In a minute. For defending Evil Pedophile Priests and the Bastards in Red who protected them do you think Donohue is a scumbag? If you didn't want this discussion you shouldn't have replied. Now answer the question.

Beverly

I already did, in the reply I gave you.  I am done with the side-topic, and I apologize to the other posters for my participation in getting things off track.

See, I wouldn't go see the movie merely on the basis of this hat:

Is that a wool vase? Or what?

No, I want you to state it in those words. So I'll ask again: Do you think Bill Donohue is an evil scumbag for his defense of Pedophile priests?

LadyKenobi

Yep, wool vase.  It's definitely a wool vase.

No, it's the world's first woolen propeller beanie.  ;)

Ok.

I'm sorry, the sex abuse scandal just really pisses me off.

It pisses everyone off, but that's a subject for another topic. Create it, if you wish.

Anyways, I saw Golden Compass last night. It was pretty good. Some people were surprised at the openness of the ending, and I was like, "Ummm two more books, duh!" Everything that the Catholic League and those nuts are making a big deal about? Completely toned down. I really think some of these people should take a hint and wait until they've SEEN something before they criticize it. (It works for message boards, right??)

So ... good movie, overall. Worth the ticket price, and it actually makes me want to read the books now.

I'd liek to read the books already, but I'm not so sure about the film.

However, some people here have made good points about the idea of the toned down movie making people want to read the books. But the same risk is run with Disney's "Prince of Egypt." The movie was relatively safe, yes, but I don'tr want my kids reading the book it was based on. Stoning people is against my Christian upbringing AND Hindu rebirth.

Last thing I'll say on this: Not Bill Donohue it doesn't. Unless you count his being pissed off that people are asking the church to face up to the evil it has done.

Could we possibly get back on-topic? Like, for instance, the fact that the movie is bombing not just because a lot of Christians didn't go, but because it stank?
Yep.  I'm a practicing Christian, but I love the books, for the most part, because it's a fun story.  Also, the God it attacks isn't one that I recognize or worship.  Seriously, this God mutilates children and murders non believers.  I don't see why it should "shake the foundation of my faith" to be told I shouldn't do things like that.  The vast majority of modern Christians don't.

The movie, unfortunately, is not a fun story.  In a way, it's a lot like the Star Wars prequels--a lot of famous actors standing around reciting plot summaries to each other in lieu of actual dialog.
I thought I was Dale.

The pod race was particularly fascinating ;)
