What exactly is a hamdinger?  I'm assuming it is some sort of sweet treat and that it doesn't actually have any ham in it?

Outside of MST3K, I've never heard of them.

A hamdinger is a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, as popularized in Denny's Restaurant's delicious Hamdinger Slam.  If I recall correctly, it also contained scrambled eggs.  It was goooooood.

Sadly, I checked the menu last time I was at Denny's, and like the free birthday meal, the hamdinger is no more.  But you can still enjoy the Super Bird as a substitute.

Nope.  Definitely a Denny's item.

And now that I think about it, the sandwich I described before is actually the Moons Over My Hammy (seriously.)  I don't recall exactly what was in the Hamdinger Slam, but I suppose we can assume it involved ham as the crucial element.  And lard.  Lots of lard.

There's a surprising lack of Hamdinger lore available on the web.  You would think there'd be at least one shut-in somewhere with a web site proudly displaying his collection of old Denny's menus.  But no, just a speculative Wikipedia entry and the equally insubstantial mention in the MST3K FAQ.

Although I did find this mention, fleeting though it may be.
