rifftrax player problem

Sorry for being such a n00b.  I tried just putting this in reply in the rifftrax player topic, but there seems to be no options for that.   (Is the topic closed?)   The problem is I bought the Predator rifftrax for the rifftrax player.  I load the predator rifftrax, the dvd starts up and starts playing "coming attractions."  The minute I get to where the menu screen is supposed to be, that's it.  It goes black, and the dvd refuses to do anything else.  It simply will not play (the rifftrax commentary, however, works fine)

It can't be my system is the problem.  I tried playing the dvd on windows media player and Intervideo XPack  (my two dvd playing software).  The DVD plays just fine.  It simply will not play on the rifftrax player.  I tried using the custom filter on the dvd settings, and set it to play with intervideo.  No soap.  It will play fine with intervideo.  The DVD won't play at all on the rifftrax player.  I'm totally frustrated.  I am not real computer savvy.  I have no idea what could be wrong, or is it just that rifftrax player doesn't work?  Help.

  ???

For some reason just because DVDs plays in one media player, it doesn't mean they'll play in all media players.  I really can't explain it because I'm not too much up on my codec issues but it seems a fairly common problem for any player that's not a media player clone.   I had the same thing where it would play in powerDVD and media player but not using the rifftrax player until I downloaded the codecs.

The black screen is generally indicative of a codec issue, here or any media player.  Look for the other topics on codec issues and download those.  That's my suggestion anyway.  It's not going to hurt anything to try it.

But what codecs??????????????????  I know absolutely NOTHING about that.  I mean nothing.  Just telling me to download codecs tells me nothing.  I need to know specifics.  I don't mean to sound unthankful, but I am very much a n00b on this issue and very frustrated.   ???
