Why does everyone pick on this movie?

I mean dammit, this movie doesn't deserve it. If you aren't a Transformers fan, it's still a huge action movie and it's awesome anyways. But you know what, there's no reason to pick on this movie over and over again. I mean hell, let's not bullshit here, there are tons and tons of far worse movies out there, and many of them have come out just in the past year! Transformers was an ambitious project aimed to please both fans and a wide audience, and it succeeded wildly. Don't hate the movie for being different, if anything Michael Bay did do his damndest to make a great film and I think he also succeeded where many other directors would have failed miserably. In short, no, Transformers is not a masterpiece but it is a great action flick that I think anyone can enjoy if they bother to let themselves go, because if you'll take a moment, you'll see there are actually some unique plot elements, no story cliches, great humor and best of all, we're gonna see some Dinobots in the next movie.  ;)

I'm sorry, it just DOES deserve it. I liked the film, and it still obviously deserved it.

And it didn't have so many story cliche's but how about character cliches?

If you mean hero and bad guy cliches, then yes, I may admit to that, but hell even the Phantom Menace and attack of the clones didn't even get this level of pickedonedness, and there's something very wrong with that. I say this simply for the fact that Star wars episodes I and II are clearly, clearly bad and intolerable on most every level. No sir, I humbly ask that you and everyone else please at least for a little while find another target for your picks, i mean shit, how the hell many times can you say "Transformers sucks...Michael Bay sucks" before it gets freaking old and to the point of spam?! Fine! You have a freaking opinion already, we get it! That isn't going to change the fact that millions of people the world over loved it and will enjoy the next one and the one after that too! So... please, just let it go already.

I for one am going to keep saying Michael Bay sucks until he actually makes a decent movie.

Here's what I wrote for my take the day I went to see this in the theater.

QuoteI just went to the matinee today and I walked away with a new piece of knowledge.  It is possible to both love and hate a movie.  The love part is fairly obvious,  Giant Robots kicking the crap out of each other,    Optimus Prime still having the same voice.  Hugo Weaving being a very suitable replacement voicing Megatron.

The hate part gets a little more complicated.  There were a lot of things that really bugged me about the movie.

1.   I didn't mind the "More than meets the eye" comment by Optimus Prime at the end.  Narration voice-overs can do whatever they want.  What bothered me was the same line being said earlier in the movie by Sam.  I've always hated these cheesy little moments like the "What would you prefer, yellow spandex?" line from X-men, the "Holy rusted metal Batman" line from Batman Forever, and the Asian Woman singing the original Spider-man song in Spider-man 2.  I know that they are supposed to be tributes to the source material but they are pretty stupid.  I've come to accept that there isn't anything I can do about them so I'll move on:

2.  Some product placement in movies bothers me.  This one wasn't nearly as bad as I robot or the Fantastic Four movies, but the huge Burger King logo perfectly framing the characters bothers me.  The Mountain Dew machine at least fit into the story.  There are actually soda machines in existence after all.  I did have a slight problem with seeing the GMC logos over and over again, but I understand the companies desperation.  Not that big of a deal but this next one is:

3.  Two words: Michael Bay.  I was really looking forward to seeing this movie.  And I'm not the biggest Transformers fan in the world, so I wasn't worried about him ruining my childhood memories or anything.  But he does have this amazing ability to ruin movies for me.  The "this is 10 times better than Armageddon" line made my eyes roll back into my head.  I'd like to think that he finally admits what a shitty movie that was and is now willing to poke fun at himself, but I have a funny feeling that he still thinks Armageddon was a great movie and his next one is way better.  Let's face it, "The Marine" was probably 10 times cooler than Armageddon so that bar is pretty low.  That line was bad enough but I think the movie went from really cool parts to standard Michael Bay moments way to often.  It seems that every one of his movie has the same shot in it- The male or female lead laying face down in rubble, with dust or smoke all around them, getting off the ground in slow motion as the camera circles the entire scene.  It's been done so many times it's ridiculous.   And another thing, I realize that shaking the camera adds to the experience of how fierce the fighting or other action is supposed to be but the shaking got awful at points.  It was moving so much that you could barely see what was going on.  I look at this as a cop-out to avoid having to put more time into the effects which could have been even better.  I paid to see robots fighting, not blurs of color moving across the screen so fast that I think I'm front row at the Indy 500.    I just found myself wishing this movie had been directed by Steven Spielberg instead of this idiot.

I don't want to sound all negitive, I am glad that I went to see this movie.   As a whole I'd give it a B+.  The concept of this movie alone could have easily vaulted it to the top of my favorite action movie list if placed in the care of a better director.  Instead, the little things make this one only the second best action movie I've seen this month. (Live Free or Die Hard being the first)

Raven, as an... acquaintance. I am going to request of you to please stop picking on Transformers and Michael Bay, nevermore.
That shouldn't be such a hard request for you to honor, nevermore.

You're asking this on the day RiffTrax releases a riff for the film?  I don't think you'll get your wish.  You might want to just weather the storm for a little while longer, soon we will move onto other movies, but today (and likely for the next week or so, as everyone watches the riff) is a day to bash Transformers.

Phantom of Krankor

I thank no matter how good this film would be, it would still be a prime riff trax target.

Personally though, I actually liked this movie and either way I think one can agree that its easily Micheal Bay's best film ( I mean, look at Pearl Harbor ).
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Riffing and bashing are two different words. Do you really think Mike and Co bashed Casino Royale or Raiders of the lost ark or Lord of the rings? I don't think so! No, they took a good thing and made it better by making it funny. That's all rifftrax is. Of course there are occasional exceptions where the movie is so bad they have to comment on how much the movie sucks, but It seems to me Rifftrax is finally getting past the point of the bad movies and proceeding onto ones that are a bit better and of much higher quality these days. No, if anyone gets to make fun of the movie, I ask that it be Mike, Kevin and Bill, even though I'm sure a lot of things they say will be echoes of what everyone has already said, so if there's going to be a rifftrax now, what's the point of the continued bashing? I mean I don't think you guys are bad or anything, I want to be your friend but it hurts me when all you guys do is continuously put down one of my favorite films over and over and over again.  :(

I don't think it's going to get much better than this for Mr. Bay. This is the kind of movie he makes and a summer blockbuster SFX movie is never going to be a great film, but it can be a fun movie.

I enjoyed it but only because I really loved Transformers when I was a kid and it takes me back to that. But now that I have the DVD I end up skipping a lot of the movie.

You say best Michael Bay movie,  I say ok movie despite Michael Bay.

I can't wait to see the trainwreck that is coming, meaning the remake of "The Birds."   And by "can't wait" I mean "hope it never gets made."

I'm not trying to make it personal.  You can't just repeatedly say that the movie is great and expect anyone who doesn't like it to change their minds.  All you can hope to do is tell people why you liked it.  That's all.  I'm sure you'd have some choice words about some of my favorite films.  Everybody likes/dislikes something different (see Issac's hatred of all things Peter Jackson and ScottH's continuing mockery of him for it.)   If you were involved of the making of the film you could feel bad about the criticism, but don't get upset unless someone attacks you directly.  I have no problem with you, unless you are in fact Michael Bay.

,,,Seriously, you aren't Michael Bay, are you?  LOL

Look dude the only way I am trying to change your mind is to try and get you to say "okay, I see why you might say that" or something. I'm not trying to get you to change your opinion about the movie, i'm just asking that you don't need to say the same thing over and over, at least for my sakes. I mean i think i've said it before, I understand why you guys say this movie and Michael Bay sucks, and I understand that it's because you were making as objective a statement as possible. But now, i mean there's already lots and lots of hate Michael Bay and Transformers threads just on this forum alone. I'm only asking that everyone please back off for a little while, because there's no need, there really isn't.

By starting this thread you asked us why and we're telling you.  It is the topic of the day.  Especially today.   I get that you think it's a good action movie despite all the reasons we've given.  If an action movie doesn't wow me it will never be anything more than mediocre.  I loved the Transporter movies because of the Oil fight sequence in the first and the firehose fight in the second.  Live Free or Die Hard was fun because I enjoy the actors in it.  These movies impressed me.  The Jason Bourne movies do not, Matt Damon is not an action star.  Transformers didn't either, for the reasons I've stated, and if it didn't impress me, then it is crap.  By your definition a " great action flick that I think anyone can enjoy if they bother to let themselves go" is an impossibilty for me.  Either it's great or it isn't.

And in response to this from the other thread-

What has this film taught us?
Personally, I learned that Michael Bay can take something that should be awesome and make it very, very mediocre.  This could have been outstanding but to me was just meh.
You know, a lot of people who experiment with illegal drugs thought the movie was mediocre...(not that i'm saying you actually do that) ;)
Could you please point me to that study,  because I don't think that makes any sense.  I thought taking drugs was supposed to make everything more "awesome dude."    I wouldn't know.  Never touched the stuff.

au contraire mon frere...

The very fact that there are lots of Michale Bay/Transformers threads would at least indicate to me that there is a need.

Cognac what you are doing right now reminds me of a deep thought:

Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who the person is you're talking to. Then, on the way out, slam the door.

My point is, you asking the wrong group of folks to stop joking/bashing/making fun of something...when the very nature of us is to do just that.

BTW, I think what you are doing is borderline trolling.

Do you know what trolling is? That's when someone keeps saying the same thing ad nauseum. If I am guilty of anything, it's of not giving up. I am pretty much the lone man out here trying to defend this movie, and unless you all have the intention of backing down, I won't either!
