One of the things I like best about Rifftrax...

I have been watching, (in an obsessive manner that concerns my wife, until I point out that it could be worse, it could be porn), episodes of MST3K on YouTube.  I, like everyone else, am concerned that copyrighted material will be completely eliminated from YouTube once Goggle takes over, (and maybe that is a good thing, and yes I feel horribly guilty about watching these eps without Best Brains getting money from it, but my self flagellation should more than make up for it...), so I am consuming them like a dope fiend.

What I find is that many of the episodes use references from current events at THE TIME that are old hat today, (like Reaganomics, or the Clinton scandal, etc....) and these new Rifftrax are so great because they are like new eps of MST3K that use references from today, like, for example, YouTubeses and iPods and whatever else the kids are into today...

And, yes, I am aware that I use too many parenthetical sentences in my writing.  AND, too many elipses...

Anyways, I'm just putting that out there.  Anybody else feel that way?  As I say, it is only ONE of the things I like best about Rifftrax, I could go on and on, but why...?

Hi!  I'm Randy and I'm a Riffaholic...

I agree.  I had missed out on mystery science theater, so all I've seen is re runs.  It's great to hear riffs that are current, it makes me feel like more of a fan, like I'm apart of something.

I get the most joy out of Rifftrax because I get together with my friends and we all watch each new riff as a group.

We all like to laugh, and we're big Mystery Science Theater fans, so it's like a brand new episode every Saturday!

It's becoming a staple of our cultural diets now. Sure, I could catch a sneak preview of the week's riff before the gathering on Saturday evening, but it's much more fun to get together with friends and experience the new track together.

You know something, Mike, Kevin, and Bill? We could get used to this!!!

(now if we could just get the three of them together for a few riffs...)

I wonder if their deal with Shout Factory somehow precludes them from being able to work together on a Rifftrax??  Or maybe they are just waiting for the perfect movie to have a threesome (not that kind of threesome, you pervs!).

Lord Of The Rings?  Titanic??  What sort of film is grand enough to unite the vaunted Film Crew in Rifftrax glory??

That's a very valid question, and I'm sure they would be more than happy to answer that. I think I'll ask them   ;)

*sigh*  This is not MST3K 2.0!!!  ;D

Seriously though, as someone from the UK and who's watching MST3k with almost a 15 year time lapse, sometimes the cultural references can be a little difficult to fathom.  It rarely detracts from my enjoyment of the movie, though I've always laughed louder at riffs on the movie itself.  With Rifftrax, those problems are mostly sorted out.

All I'm really saying is that I completely agree with what you just said.   :D

My question is (yep a technical one), do they have the facilities to accomidate 3 riffers at once?
Maybe the recording studio is only big enough for 2 people?

I'm hoping someone from rifftrax can respond to this.

I wouldn't expect them to talk shop with the customers...

hmmmm, I don't see how this kind of info is secretive?
But if it is...then no biggie...no need to tell.

The thing I like best about Rifftrax is
it hardly sweats at all.
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

The thing i like best about Rifftrax is
it helps me keep off the pounds as part of a calorie controlled diet
In brightest day, in darkest night
No DVD shall escape their sight
Let those who tremble in bad movies light,
Beware the power, Rifftrax's might!

Same here! When MST started, I was still in Elementary school! There is a lot in the earlier episodes that are way above my head. I started watching around the 10th season so I didn't even know for almost a year that there was a previous host.  :D

This is one of the things i love about MST3K, as i get older and more experienced and diverse in my tastes in films and music etc, when i re-watch old episodes, i always find something new to laugh at cos they'll be jokes this time around i actually get cos of something i watched or read since i last saw the episode...

I dunno... A lot of the current, topical references feel to me like Mike's trying a little too hard to be hip. Who's going to remember Kevin Federline in a couple years? Hell, who even wants to be reminded of him now? I had to go Google the name in the first place to make sure he was who I thought he was.

And what happens in a couple years when someone goes to listen to these early RiffTrax and Mike makes some already rapidly growing obscure reference to Billy Joel driving drunk? It'll just be confusing. It seems like they're falling into the same trap that they made such an effort of avoiding on MST3K.
