RiffTrax isn't synced

I downloaded the Phantom Menace .riff file the other day and am trying to use it with the RiffTrax player (and the 2001 DVD release, if that makes any difference).  When the DVD begins playing, I hear a brief snippet of Kevin's voice, too short to know what he's saying.  Then the movie plays, and the Riff is clearly behind; Disembaudio's first line is late by nearly five seconds.  I tried using custom filters (including the AC3 audio filter) instead of my system default, but that changed nothing.  Has anyone else seen this problem?  Any help is appreciated.

This also happens with the Spider-Man .riff (the only other one I have access to).  Disembaudio's first line is about 3-4 seconds late, and rewinding (like the player suggests) only increased the gap.

The issue still exists with the latest RiffTrax player.

Check out the FAQ... specifically the section titled "What if I'm still having problems with the Player?"

Hmmm.... I got really excited with this. I got everything working on my dedicated home theater computer with the latest player, and popped in my Glitter DVD, and viola! perfect sync! And I mean perfect!!

However... with Star Trek V, the sync is consistantly off by about 2.5 seconds. Matrix was off by about 1.5 seconds. Popped Glitter back in... sync was still perfect.

Have no clue as to why this would be. But I find myself wanting a feature that allows the user to enter a custom offset to the sync.

We're looking into it.

An update. Same as before with Star Trek V and Matrix (and btw, I'm certain that I'm using the correct DVDs). However, I just tried Crossroads, and it syncs perfectly everytime just like Glitter. So at least I'm 2 for 4.

I think the answer is that bad chick flick/star vehicle movies synch, scifi ones do not.

Ahhh... I see the pattern!

But you'd think it would be the other way around... considering how poorly Britney was lip syncing at the VMA awards. ;D

Uh oh, now I've done it... I hear Chris Crocker saying... "Leave Britney Alone!!!"

I'm getting the same problems with my copies of Spider-Man and Star Trek V.  Even after rewinding and fastforwarding the DVD repeatedly, the movie is about 1-2 seconds ahead of the track.

Y'know, the whole reason for downloading the Rifftrax player is so we don't HAVE to keep getting the thing back in sync.

Their "solution" to this problem is to scan backwards a few seconds and it'll then correct itself.

Well if I have to do that 10 times during the movie, what the hecks the difference between that and my hitting pause on my player 10 times during the movie to keep it in sync?

This is no time saver for me at all.  They need to really fix this thing.  I do realize that it's in beta, but I would expect it to at least get ONE of my movies right without my "adjusting" it. ???

If you're having problems, why not contact disembaudio@rifftrax.com and give us some more details about your setup. Also include what version of the DVD you are using.

Uh, I had sync problems with Harry Potter but it was solved pretty simply by just going to the previous or next chapter. Rewinding made it worse, but the chapter skip fixed it. In fact when it was out of sync, I noticed the riff would skip ahead when the next chapter came on. So I don't know if anybody has bothered to try this, but it's not a big deal. If you have to get up to muffle the screams coming from the basement, you can just wait for the next chapter, then skip forward and go back to it when you return. I don't think you can expect the riff and the DVD to be rewinding at the same speed perfectly at the same time, even if the program cost a zillion dollars.
