Unless of course they heard Mike was doing it before Rifftrax actually launched, or, like I said SOME or MOST of the films are public domain, in which case perhaps getting liscenses was a much smaller task than it would seem.

But ultimately, WHO CARES?!

There are too many what ifs for anyone to act like they know either way for sure, so let's drop it, ok?

Well I can't speak for everybody but I was watching some of the Legend stuff before Rifftrax started ...  Mike has been much more visible than Joel ... checking the mst3k.com site (the 'old one' ;) ) was little more than a place to find the latest Mike Nelson news / commentaries.
Just sayin.

Chaos

Saucy: who said I was complaining? I was just pointing out some stuff.

eqfan592: dude... take a pill. Holy. :)

If they decided to do it after simply hearing about Rifftrax before it launched then they weren't waiting for Rifftrax to test the water as I was arguing against and would be a totally different issue, one that I was not arguing against. And even if the are mostly public domain films it would still take a not insignificant amount of time to get something together and ready to release by this December.

And as for "taking a pill" you are correct. Sorry I snapped like that, I was just having a shity day at work (which is where I was posting from) and let some of that get into my post. Sorry about that man.

I really wish we could all stop talking about things we don't really know anything about.

Thus I am now excusing myself from this discussion.

Joel did say in the SW interview that he and Frank were putting something together that fell apart before they did CT.  So at least the two of them were hooked up and riffing.

What really gobsmacks me is the addition of Josh.  Man, that really seemed to come out of nowhere, but kudos to Joel for managing to pull together so many of the Brains, no matter how he did it.

Yeah I didn't find it surprising since Trace and Josh have worked together for years at AFV, and they all did Star Wait together. I haven't seen Star Wait yet, but I think it was Tarantulas who said that Josh stood out on on that.

I haven't seen anything of Josh outside of old MST, so I'm really curious what he'll be like here.  I was never a fan of his voices, either the extra low voice he used to Servo or the extra high one he used for Dr Erhardt.  I don't think I'd even recognize his "real" voice.  Hopefully it makes for good riffing today though.

QuoteA lot think that Joel and the CT gang were waiting for Mike to test the waters and see if this would be a viable market.
Overheard from CT headquarters a couple years ago: "Let Mikey try it! He'll try anything! Hey, he likes it! Give that sh*t back, Mikey, you hog. Hey, let's make him eat pop rocks and soda!"

Half an hour later...

"Oh, sh*t, man! We killed Mikey! We freakin' killed him!"

"We gotta call the cops!"

"You call the cops and I'll kill you too!"

Bicycle chase ensues.

Later, on a railroad bridge... ah forget it.

Yeah, I think that was refering to their life sized X-Wing model.

But outside of that, I think it's safe to say he's been pretty quiet where MST is concerned, especially because he left so early in the series. Beyond his association with Trace, he's been fairly invisible as far as the show itself. Probably most people outside of the most serious MSTies don't even know he was the original voice of Servo.  So it took me aback (even though I knew of his role in the early series) and I think most people who are recent or casual MSTies are going to have no idea who he is (but what a great way for them to learn!)  The more people who understand what riffing is all about aboard CT, the better :)   Happy days for us.  I'm looking forward to hearing him.

BathTub

Well yeah that's basically what I was saying about Joel going on and on about "the original Tom Servo!", when in reality most people are just going "Josh Who?"

Kzinistzerg

I'm happy to hear more from Weinstein. He's got a great normal voice, but his tom servo voice needed some work.

Everyone's voice needed work when they were nineteen.  I'm happy to be hearing from him with a little more experience under his belt.
I thought I was Dale.

Who knows, he might be even huskier than Kevin by now.
