Usenet group: rec.arts.mst3k.misc.  It still exists and always sucked (IMHO, some people loved it) but when I accidentally clicked on something and read an intro about how "lonely" Joel and Mike got on the SOL, pretty much summed up newsgroups! 

Bitching, whining and endless Joel vs Mike threads, fine.  Pr0n?  You're a sick bastard.  I'm sure the general group thought the same.  For the good of humanity, I hope the general group thought the same.

I'm sorry!  I am flabergasted!  I am appalled!  Where is the graciousness?  MST3K simply won Emmy nominations and the Peabody award without Mike and Kevin?  He is all humbleness - NOT!  I hope he enjoys himself.  If anything shows that there is some kind of "riff" between Mike and Joel, that interview said it all!

About a year later when we got Mystery Science Theater 3000 up and running, I was willing and ready to be the "on-camera" host, besides the thing was so weirdly from me -- I really was the only one to do it. I don't see Joel saying "I" once and taking entire credit.  In fact he said "we" a couple of times talking about the whole crew.  It's not like he was giving an oscar acceptence speech.  It's not like he thanked all the CT guys and didn't mention Mike and Kevin.  I think you take things a little to seriously.

I remember free fish links.  That takes me back.  Overall, usenet was pretty useless.   None f the groups I subscribed too were worth much.

As for Joel, if I were promoting a new project, it would be smart not to mention the other guy doing it.  That's kinda the reporter's job.    While I will admit that some of the language on his announcement makes me want to smack him (like how Josh defined Servo as a "A verbose, husky, baritone showboat.,"  I kinda think that was someone else ), I also think it's best to promote yourself instead of someone else.

I don't think it means he has anything personal against them.  I don't see any links to Cinematic Titanic here either.

Sorry everyone.  I just wanted to make a post that was as absurd as Puumagirl's.  It was funny in my head, but really inappropriate.

But seriously, she really needs to calm down about Joel taking all the credit, when he is doing nothing of the sort.  AmandaGal has it right: Why would Joel mention (and therefore promote) a competing project?

Look, I don't know nothing from nothing, but it kinda feels that the silence between each camp regarding the other is awkward, to say the least. My consporacy theory du jour: With the exception of Mary Jo, it seems like everyone who left the show before it crossed over to Sci fi went on record as saying they're done with the riffing and the robots and the watching of the movies for the money. So, when Mike started up Rifftrax, he didn't ask those people to join him as a guest or a regular, honoring their decision to be done with riffing. Now, those people who haven't been a part of Mike's reindeer games feel slighted, even though they gave up on riffing themselves.

On top of this, mayhbe, just maybe, Joel feels slighted by Mike for even having a business that involves riffing. Because were it not for Joel inventing MST3K, who knows if Mike would even have this opportunity? One could argue over whether or not RT is a spinoff of MST3K and as such Joel deserves credit (if not an actual credit as a co-creator), but if this were a feeling Joel had, it might also explain why there's awkward silence between the two camps.
