They said they are doing 12 movies only, or they got liscenses for 12 movies? I hope they do more than 12. That's all I got to say.

I'm guessing 12 is their starting point.  Their "season one" of perhaps one movie a month for a year.  Elsewhere on the site is mention of 500 movies, so I'd imagine they're going to try and keep at it as long as humanly possible (considering it took MST3K 11 seasons to approach the 200 mark)

Are there even 500 more movies that re low budget B-Movies? They might have to take a dive into dubbed foreign films, although, this isn't unfamiliar for them.

I can't tell if you're joking or not. They would have to LIMIT themselves to 500 B-movies.

I sure as hell hope they do, some of the shorts from MST were the best riff material.

I don't know how this will all pan out, but I do wish Joel and crew the best.

Still, I wish they'd 'branch out' down the road and start being a direct competitor to Rifftrax, with audio-only tracks riffing on current films. It would roughly double the output in this market of riffing popular movies, and some friendly competition might just push the quality up a notch on both sides. I think the Rifftrax model is a better one overall, and much more convenient (and in a sense, cheaper) when you already happen to have a movie and can quickly download the Rifftrax and start watching right away.
Also, popular movies are, well, popular, and would want to be seen by a larger crowd than the obscure movies would. Obscure movies are for the cult followers like a lot of us, but popular movies draw a larger audience, and consequently, larger profits.

I'd actually prefer they didn't branch into the Rifftrax model, and if possible occasionally swap talent.  From the sound of it CT releases should be fewer and farther between, so you can spread things out price wise, as opposed to Rifftrax where they often come out so quickly you'd go broke if they weren't reasonably priced.  I just really think it'll be better for everyone involved if they operated differently from each other, as it will help create some individual identity to the projects.

Okay, after mulling over this news for a bit, I hate to say that while of course I loved the Joel and Trace shows (Josh not so much), Mike and Kevin were the ones most recently doing the riffing, and were really FORCED out of the show by the cancellation demons at Sci-Fi. They followed that up with some hilarious books that proved their love of all things Mistie-like. Everyone else however left the show as a personal choice, so I feel that them coming back to it is a little sad and desperate and disingenous. We all know they didn't have much success after MST, whereas Mike and Kevin have written real grown-up, non illustrated books and whatnot and what have you and are now having success with doing what they love. Joel spent most of his time consulting for bad sitcoms while Trace and Josh were writing pee-pee jokes for a show that's been replaced in popularity by guys kicking each other in the nuts on YouTube.

I was interested to see if Joel brought any "invention" to the concept, but apparently he didn't. And I know some crazy kids with their raves and their hoola hoops like to download entire movies but I don't have the space or time to download four gigabytes. I had to delete my Star Wars DVD project because I was down to almost no bytes. So that's one more bandwagon they're trying to jump on. I sure hope they don't try to throw in hip pop culture references like Rifftrax does. Like Joel knows what an iPhone is. Joel's idea of an iPhone has a big eyeball in the center of it for seeing the person you're talking to. And he doesn't know that exists now either.

But what is it with Joel and the rhyming? Static Planets in Static-O-Matic and now Cinematic Titanic? I'm having an asthmatic acrobatic panic attack. Ack!

That's not good.  If you assonance, you make an ass out of O and Nance... wait, that doesn't sound right....

Between Rifftrax, The Film Crew, Cinematic Titanic and now the 'Bots are Back, it really makes me wonder why they don't all just get together and do MST3K for DVD.

Is Jim Mallon gumming up the works with rights and such? Or maybe they feel that MST3K was for a season and now they've moved on... to doing almost the exact same thing.

Thoughts?

I got the impression that, at least for the mst3k crew at the end, there was always a desire to do more in the future together. I think that the DVD sales and eventually rifftrax showed that the fanbase was definitely still out there and would be (financially) supportive of a new venture. It doesn't surprise me too much that Mike, Joel, Trace, etc. would have different ideas as to what direction they would want to go in with a new venture.

It has assonance though.

No, that's just me; I had the chimichangas for lunch. Sorry.

I don't think downloading and burning your own disk is the only option for purchasing these.  And it isn't a crime for someone to do one thing, choose to leave and try something else, and then go back to where they came from.  If the product sucks, blame them for that but I'd rather have them at least trying to provide us content than not trying at all.  This doesn't have to be a Mike/Kevin/Bill or  Joel/Josh/Trace choice only.
