Since Phantom Menace is coming out on Nov 1st, then I thought to myself...Who is more annoying, Chirs Tucker (as Ruby Rod) or Jar Jar?

God, they're both so annoying...its hard to decide   ???

#1
Jar Jar.

I can find some humor in Tucker's performance.  But the 100% CGI Jar Jar is a giant red-mark on my psyche, as well as a humanity as a whole.

The Ruby Rod (whatever) character was likely hashed out over the course of 2 business lunches at Subway and just as quickly forgotten.

Jar Jar took years to develop and animate costing Lucas tens of thousands of dollars in R&D for something that amounted to nothing more than a flat racial stereotype.

hahaha, I never thought of it that way. But its funny that Lucas invested that much time and money into a character that was a total flop and in my opinion, ruined the "newer" star wars movies.

I found the Chris Tucker character an interesting commentary on the direction entertainment is heading these days.  He's an interesting extrapolation of the current MTV form of entertainment, all surface flash, all short, loud & lifeless bursts for the ADD mentality, without much in the way of content.  Was his character annoying?  Yes....but he was supposed to be.

Whoa, I just geeked out.

I can't remember for 100%, but I believe there is a whole documentary dedicated to Jar Jar on the EP1 DVD (but who knows, it could have just been something I saw on scifi a million years ago).   They had endless scenes of people sitting around talking about how to do the character and if it should be a puppet or a CGI element.  They had some footage, of them in a pickup truck with a really bad Jar Jar puppet  being driven around to simulate him riding some sort of creature.

The thing that I think is most inexcusable about EP1 is the Yoda puppet.  Who looked at that turd and was like "yeah.. this is the look we are going for... crack eyes."

  <--- good use of CGI

<--- bad use of felt and crape hair.

Its sad that they dedicated so much time and effort into Jar Jar and then just gave Yoda the brush off for Episode 1

Also, this has always looked terrible...  Jabba looks like he's positioned at least 2 foot closer to the camera than Solo.  It's like a bad forced perspective shot from the old "Land of the Giants" TV show...

I hear Yoda's getting the CGI treatment on the DVD Rerelease. More to the point, I think Jar Jar has a quiet dignity next to Ruby. :^)

This is the scene where Solo walks behind Jabba and "steps on his tail". It looks stupid. But I remember watching how they made this scene and they had no other option as the scene was shot before they knew what Jabba would look like. Solo is actually talking to another actor and they just covered it up with CGI later.

Had to go for Tucker.

As annoying as Jar Jar is, at the end of the day he's just cgi and can be ultimately shut off and deleted... Tucker cannot

I voted for Jar Jar as more annoying than Chris Tucker.  I'm assuming you mean Chris Tucker's character from The Fifth Element, which I found more funny than annoying.

Speaking of Chris Tucker, is there any other actor in Hollywood more protective about his career and selective about parts?  Since his break-out role in Rush Hour, he has made exactly one other movie - Rush Hour 2.  That's two movies since 1998!  Or maybe he figured that since he made a truckload of money off of those two films, he didn't need to act anymore.

(enjoyed both Rush Hour movies and looking forward to Rush Hour 3)

(Jackie Chan movies would make for a good Rifftrax)

(Rumble In The Bronx anyone?)

Shanghai Knights may be a good one to riff to.

I think Tucker is pretty involved in pursuits related to his (Christian) faith.  In any case, yeah, he's disinterested in his movie career right now, it seems.

Now, Chris Tucker vs. Jar Jar.  This is a question for the ages, honestly.  Cheers, gammer.

Excellent points all around. Based purely on a raw visceral level, I will say Chris Tucker (as Ruby Rod)  ... I would have more suicidal/homicidal thoughts per minute if left alone with his character.
