How I miss those creative years...

Just wanted to throw a suggestion out there that wasn't brought up on this topic so far.  If you find yourself watching a movie that you are unfamiliar with the dialogue either watch the movie by itself before hand or turn on the subtitles.  I usually do 2 reauthors, one with, one without and see which one is easier to watch.  It seems to help quite a bit.  And they do some jokes where timing is pretty important. (Kevin's rimshot sequence in Casino Royale being the longest, and the Laugh track in Battlefield Earth.)

Just a thought.  And welcome.

a fair point, I actually watch all of them through now before listening to the rifftrax version.

No matter how painful!

I've watched them all too ... the chick flicks are the exceptions for me, I just go straight to the rifftrax with those

The black-heated rants during a film ("It's hurting me to watch this movie, owie owie") rarely worked in MST3K, and they just don't work when you are busy wondering if your Rifftrax is synched up to the movie properly, especially when your rants bowl right over a bit of loud dialog.   We know the films have problems, and I must give you credit for your wonderful choices for films to Riff upon.  But enough already with the "Ouch" comments and rants.  Please, I love you guys -- you just need to work on your timing and return to good-hearted fun, and avoid the Dark Side.  Bring balance back to the Force, if you can.  I hope you're not too jaded.

Mostly a lurker here, but...

I kinda agree with this point.   Actually the talking over dialogue doesn't bother me much, since they did that during MST3K when they had to, in long stretches of bland dialogue.

But the complaints about how the movie sucks, and how it sucks to have to watch it, are my least favorite.  They're too bitter, and not funny enough.

My 2 cents.  Please don't kill me.

No many of us share those 2 cents. Rifftrax is best when it's light on the hate and heavy on the merry-making. With the exception of Episode 1 and maybe one or two others, they usually keep the raw hatred to just about the right level, though. :^)

I can't stand to watch most of these DVDs without Rifftrax. I always keep the subtitles on during the film. That way I always know what they're saying in the DVD and I can make sure Mike is louder. It's more important that I hear him.

Ditto. I find it more enjoyable to watch the rifftrax version after I have seen the normal version the day before or so.

One more thing, you have to remember that in MST3K days they could actually edit a film to fit the jokes.  Mike has said in a couple of interviews lately that one of the toughest things about the Rifftrax concept is the fact that when the movie drags they have to just, (his words), "gut it out..."

No cutting.  Lot's of gutting.  Just think about that, won't you?

And we're not suffering along with them?

we dont suffer as much.  mike is our daniel boone who has thankfully already cut a trial to hilarity for us to  follow.

Uh, yeah...   *rolls eyes*  Anyhue, I think this all just bears out what I've maintained all along.  This applies to not just MST3K & RiffTrax, but the fan Riffs both here and over at Cuts.com.  It helps if you can have a sense of humor about these things.  Otherwise many of us my have long since voluntarily shuffled off this mortal coil a long time ago...

Most all of the Rifftrax I've picked up are films I've already seen, some of them several times (so far the exception is Eragon, never watched it without Rifftrax, never plan to) and so it's easy for me to follow the film without hearing every bit of dialog along the way.  The long rants I think can be useful tools for Mike and Co. when the film drags.  The Palpatine/Mace Windu lightsaber battle is a perfect example.  There's only so many straightforward lightsaber/swordfight jokes you can cram in before it gets boring, so why not go off topic with the joke being the movie forcibly drove you off topic?

When I first started watching these I'd always turn on the subtitles.  The past couple times though I've forgotten to, and by the time I realize they're not there I also realize I don't care.  Too often when the subtitles are on, I just end up reading them when I don't need to and I miss other things.  It's like Lewis Black ranting about the damn news crawl on the bottom of CNN.

I just want to say that StarWars Episode 3 is one of the funniest RiffTrax I have heard in a long time.  I don't know what happened, but something about the synchronization was perfect, even if the two tracks wavered by 2 seconds or less, the jokes were still relevant.  Whatever you're doing, keep doing it.  Thank you for the gut-felt guffaws.

Trolls Go Home
not as good as
Trolls 2: stayin' out late! (nc17)

Man i wish i would have seen Eragon in rifftrax form
instead of paying 6 bucks to spend
2 hours going over the regrets of my life
(watching that movie being a huge #1)
I almost threw my nearly empty
mountain dew bottle of whiskey at the screen

Maybe it leaves them feeling isolated and lonely, and they need to lash out
More respect for what they have to endure may be in order!
