Unicron? Seriously, that's a name? And people make fun of George Lucas...
Is Unicron a giant robotic unicorn?
Imrahil... are you ever not an idiot? Oh, and btw, the times when you are a moron do not count.
I love you. I Truly. Deeply. Love you.

I find it funny that the comment comes on a thread for a Transformers movie.

I don't recall Skin-trade chiming in when we're discussing classical literature ;D

J-Proof

You have to cut the Transformers some slack when it comes to their names... what if they were called "Zords?" Now that's /much/ worse....

Yeah, well. For some reason, Transformers makes people go all Johnny Short-Torso.
I personally get very touchy about it because I don't think Transformers ever got its share of respect. And as for classical literature, well I don't feel i'm qualified to make any negative Judgments about that because 1) I don't read much classical literature simply because I don't have the time, and 2) I feel the judgment of books should be very careful, as it's not like you can watch the book. You have to take a lot of time, intensity and concentration to really absorb detail and information coming from the pages of a book.

To each his own I say.  And I have to admit Im a little offended that I havent been mentioned yet as the resident forum Autobot.  I presonally am fascinated by the concept of a race of warring transforming robots.  I understand not all of you agree, and I dont like things that some of you guys like.  Like Dr. Who I find completely retarded.  I enjoyed the hell out of the first movie and I cant wait to see what they do with a sequel.  Also one more thing.  People need to get over the fact that the Autobots were all GM products.  What did you expect, a bunch of generic automobiles driving around?  90% of movies now a days are filled to the brim with product placement.  More than likely Transformers 2 will feature some cars from different companies.  So stop whining that all the cars are the same brand, and remember, think to yourself its just a show, you should really just relax.

That is all for now.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

Wait, people fail to show respect for a television show that was designed specifically to attempt to brainwash impressionable young children into buying a certain line of toys?

Well, now my world view is just all totally screwed up. I mean, if we can't respect a show for BRAINWASHING CHILDREN, what is there to rely on anymore? IS NOTHING SACRED?? WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN??

That may have been the original intent, but obviously Transformers ended up being something way more than just a brainwashing advertisement to get kids to beg their parents for money for die-cast toys. I thought the movie from 86 was absolutely terrific. I am sure though that you know all this already though, you Anarchist.  ;)

I, being one of many millions of Transformers fans loves the movie even though all the spin-off series from the past several years have been an embarrassment and a disgrace to the Transformers universe. It's kind of like Star Wars. I love the original Trilogy even though the prequels were the biggest butt-load of monkey turds imaginable. In this case though, the movie from 1986 was a kind of fluke I guess because they made one hell of a dark and character-oriented film and they had no idea people would groan and moan about the robots being killed and the death of Optimus until after it opened. I tend to agree with whoever said it earlier, this years Transformers movie was very good, was no work of genius by any means, but very good. The original Transformers was great. G1 owns.

Honestly, I never saw Transformers as anything other than throw-away entertainment involving robots fighting each other.  Sorry, but I've never thought the idea of "shape-shifting robotic aliens deriving their power from a matrix or cube" could be classified as intellectually compelling science fiction.

Giving the various robots actual personality makes it more fun, sure, but it doesn't really add anything special for them to be robots as opposed to, say, interstellar lawyers with missile launchers mounted on their shoulders.  At least not for me.  Maybe I'm just not a very good nerd.  In any case, I've never really taken Transformers seriously, even as an impressionable young child watching TV on Saturdays.  Though it's fine by me if you DO take them seriously.  I mean, I think Road House is the best American movie ever made, so who am I to judge?

Nonetheless, I was rather annoyed that Michael Bay found a way to actually make a live-action Transformers film in which the central premise of robots turning into terrestrial vehicles was the LEAST ridiculous part of the movie.

So, you like movies with shirtless patrick swayzes, skinny as rails women and Sam Elliots showing off scars on their crotches? Okay, okay, that's fine!

Then you've never read Simon Furman's take on the universe, my friend. Yeah, the cartoon was campy as hell, and Bay's movie had its moments of ridiculousness, but Marvel UK's best decision ever with the franchise was handing it over to an intelligent British writer.

Then again, I think most things can be made better by handing them to intelligent British writers.

  Or just someone British.

  I like British people.

Okay, so anyway, the TF universe is large enough that not everyone who's a Transfan is going to like 100% of it. I for one think the cartoon was awesome, but very silly. Pak and I more riff it than actually watch it when we break out our DVDs. I'm sure a few TF nerds out there would scream heresy at that. Although one has only to glance into my closets and in my room to see what a huge TF nerd I am. I'm one of the biggest advocates of either Bay's movie or the original animated movie getting riffed on these boards. I think everyone should have fun with their obsession and not take it so seriously. If you do, then you'll get all offended (like PST) when someone has the audacity to poke fun at it.

Pak-Man

Anyone have any idea what this "Transformers Prequel" is that they're boasting about as a Walmart exclusive giveaway with the movie DVD?

Sideswipe

Its basicly an animated comic with the voice of Peter Cullen and a few others from the movie.

I imagine the plot of such a prequel could be accurately described as "like Killdozer, only stupider."
