If there is any Riff-track Ive been waiting on,it's this one.I will buy this one, but this will definitely make me think twice before purchasing future tracks. I have limited extraneous income so $4 is a purchase I have to think about. Because for every Riff-track I have bought and loved, there is another that wasn't very funny at all.

Well, there's the situation in a nutshell!  One poster is happy to pay up to $16 per week, the other is thinking twice at the new $4 price. How do you sell the same airline seat at two different prices?

As much as I love the gang, some efforts do fall flat.  You make an interesting point - if your Rifftrax dollar is limited, you need some way of knowing what to spend it on.

Out of curiosity, have you tried listing the Rifftrax catalogue by user rating?  How does it compare with your own experience as to which Rifftrax are funny and which are not?  I buy them all but that's my completist nature and yes, some don't work for me sometimes.  It would be interesting to get some sort of user reviews.  I'm not sure how the ranking is done... is it from BathTub's Rank-A-Riff polls in each Rifftrax forum?  The posters comments on the poll theads tend to be brief and it would be nice to have (a) more extensive reviews and (b) a way to rank the reviews/reviewers so one can start getting some confidence in which reviewers give good analyses.

$4 is still a fair price in my book. I buy every rifftrax for a movie that I own. so I'm up to $43 on rifftrax which include LOTR:FOTR which was $3.99

I do prefer Mike with other riffers, not that he isn't funny by himself, but I really enjoy the interaction between them.

The Catalogue Ranking is the from the average star rating (out of 5) from all the people who have given the riff a rating (by clicking on the stars), it has nothing to with any other reviews or ratings elsewhere on the site. Rank-a-Riff is actually varietyofcells idea.

I can click on those stars!?!

Boy, do I feel dumb!

BathTub

Heh, I doubt you're the only one, the green is your rating, the gold is the average.

For the record, I can't think of 4 song's I'd rather buy off iTunes than even one mediocre Rifftrax. :^)

Also, if you head out into the wide ol' web, there's plenty of people willing to tell what they think of any given Rifftrax.

The two that spring immediately to mind are gammer's RifftraxFan.com and my own War of the Colossal Fan Guide (yes, that was a blatant plug) but a simple google search ought to find you a plethora of information on any given track.  Even if you don't agree with the ratings or conclusions drawn, the reviews themselves ought to give you a pretty good idea of what each track is like.

I am a lifelong MST3K fan, Film Crew fan, and Rifftrax fan who is constantly broke, working at a crap job, and I am still okay with the price increase. I'd rather see such an increase than a shut-down.

I'm sure I will pay more attention to other's opinions on different riff-tracks. The problem is humor is very subjective even when its the same dudes recording the tracks. Lost, FotR and Reign of Fire all have a 4 star rating and I found them to be disappointments.

I'm still buying tracks; I'm just a tad more discerning is all.

Lucas has now been recognized as one of the biggest douches in history.

Exhibit A:

This looked like a sweet video game, but listen at 1:08 (or 5:19 doing countdown) on how Lucas interfered with the game, and the result.

It sickens me. I want to vomit.

Make sure it has a love interest, cause God knows how everyone thought that the love stories in Ep II and III were the highlights of the movie.

Make sure it has a wacky comic sidekick, cause Jar-Jar was the most beloved character of the entire Star Wars saga, beating out both Luke, Han, and Vader.

And the character names:

Juno Eclipse: The broadband version of Juno's internet service.
General Coda: Ruthless Bosnian General known for marching into battle with Led Zeppelin's last album blaring on repeat until all the opposition was eliminated.
Proxy: Rejected names: DHCP, Etherbot, Circuity, Gigabot...

I'm starting to long for Elan Sleazebaggano. http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/elansleazebaggano/
Why must he mess up anything even remotely potentially good? Why dammit!?

Where's an assassin lizard thing when you need one?

I'm stoked about Sith being Riffed (it was even on my list!).  So far as the price increase goes...I say "whoopee".  I'd pay more for these Riffs, and $4 a pop is still very reasonable...I'd have willingly paid that for any of the Riffs I've seen so far.  Keep up the good work, guys - I hope you give Episode 3 the treatment it deserves!  :)

User comments is something we are working towards. Have to give them a moderation system also, a la YouTube and Digg, so that if someone just starts trashing people, their comment can be hidden, flagged, etc.

Wow, what a firestorm I started!  I wasn't questioning the value of the product (and I initially wrote I'm sure that it's worth the price), but I wondered why the increase.  After reading some of the reasons posted, the price hike makes sense.  I've been looking forward to this riff since the one for Ep. II was released.  I love the gang's take on the Star Wars world even though I'm one of the very rare people who liked all of the prequels.  Nevertheless, it's always interesting to hear what Mike, Kevin, and now Bill will have to say about Ep. III.  I can hardly wait for it, guys!
