Yep, same here.

They had a discussion about this in the MST3K Discussion Board when it came out and I believe that it isn't anamorphic. Which in this day and age of rampant widescreen HD doesn't make a lick of sense.

So what's the story behind the halt in production? If the DVD is going for hundreds on Ebay, mightn't it be time to milk the cow again and release another wave?

Back in the laser discs days since it was such a niche product major studios would allow (for a fee of course) third party companies to release their films. When DVD came out they had the same wait and see attitude so Universal licensed 50 films to Image Entertainment (they were the king of LDs and they embraced DVD as well). Image released the films and after they were out for awhile they decided to drop the list price. Universal said that they couldn't do that (they probably also had a profit sharing deal as well) and sued them. They won and the discs went out of print.  Most of the image discs have been put back in to circulation by Universal and who knows why they don't reprint MST3K.

I have this version and it runs fine for me.  The only thing in English is the movie, but it sure is a heck of a lot of fun to watch in German!

Because they haven't run out of the copies they had left in stock from the first time that they're now selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay?

I have a friend who works for Paramount in the Props department - they sell stuff for the company on eBay all the time.  Discontinued video, props, toys (prototype and otherwise), you name it.   Not always coming right out and saying they're Paramount....

It gets worse. Image was the physical manufacturer, but the rights to release the movie (as well as many other Universal titles) was palmed off to Goodtimes Video, a company that was primarily known for crappy, cut-rate VHS titles. As near as I can tell, every title leased to Goodtimes has now had a proper DVD release from Universal... all except one, that is.
