i still think movies move in chunks.  yes there have been some good sci fi movies ( how come no one mentioned fountain?) recently but the best movies coming out right now or at least the bulk are not scifi.

another favorite Sci-fi of mine is The One (I'm a big morgan / wong, Jet li, and transporter fan... t
Yet another film where Jet Li kicks ass just because he is Jet Li... honestly, is there any other point to the film than that?

I liked the plot too ... as I said I'm a morgan /wong fan ... they're responsible for two other classics (okay maybe thats just my opinion ;) ) Willard and Final Destination ... not to mention their work on the x-files ... speaking of which where you a fan of that show principal or are you just an all around sci-fi 'hater' ?

That was a "Pay-Per-View Episode"...not a movie.

And btw, about The Lone Gunmen (from Wikipedia) :

"The Gunmen themselves died in the season 9 X-Files episode "Jump the Shark", sacrificing themselves to stop a bio-terrorist. There has been some speculation that they may not have actually died since the bodies are never shown and their caskets are not sized accordingly, upon their burial at Arlington National Cemetery. They briefly reappeared in the series finale, as ghosts with whom Mulder seemed to have acquired the ability to communicate, along with many other deceased characters."

So they were in the last episode like I said....I just didn't hear the part where they were back from the dead.....

And that the show got to that point means they should have cancelled it awhile before then.

I'm sure they are decent movies, but that's the problem, I don't think we're going to see anything revolutionary in movies again, no more Star Warses, no more Matrixses, no more great star treks.... sigh

AI and Minority Report are 2 really great recent ones.  Spielberg does great.  I thought Revenge of the Sith was also very good.

Minority report?! More like Majorly boring shit with a hyper-extended plot we've seen before! AI was just Blade Runner all over again, except it had no action and it still wasn't as good, and I don't even like Blade Runner! As for revenge of the sith... it has half bad, half good, and what you get is a decent movie.

Both the original Star Wars and Matrix pretty much came out of nowhere, both by relatively new directors, I'm sure we'll get another "revolutionary" film in the next decade or so.  That's the thing about "revolutionary" films they tend to just appear all of a sudden...

The thing about Revenge of the Sith is that it felt very rushed.
Especially the scene where Mannequin Skywalker joins forces with Palpatine...

"Join me."
"No."
"We can rule the galaxy together."
"I won't do it!"
"Oh, go on."
"Okay."

Attack wasn't great, but it wasn't too bad.
It would've been better if Lucas had made Attack as Episode 1 and stretched the Revenge script over the other two films, and just ditched Phantom Menace all together.

Just Some Guy

I'll save the bulk of my criticism for when Revenge is finally riffed, but the plot would only have worked if the characters were sympathetic and Lucas had spent the last two movies making them extremely unsympathetic.  They don't even have the "I understand where they're coming from" sympathy.  I can't feel bad when Jedis are wiped out not by hubris or an overwhelming force but instead by the fact that they lack the reasoning abilities of a five-year-old.

I remember when I saw that movie at the theater there was this Uber-geek or X-Files-Autistic guy up front who would giggle everytime anything suprising happened.  When Mulder gets shot (I think it was Mulder) he squealed like a little girl and laughed.  I knew at that moment that I wasn't a true nerd.
