Now that I'm well past my "quasi liberal college student" phase, I think I can safely say that Kevin Smith's movies just don't stand the test of time.  I mean, when he's funny, he's hilarious, but when he's not funny, it's just painful to watch.

Clerks the animated series is still fantastic stuff, though.

This probably wasn't worth the two minutes of time it took me to take, but:

YEAH! who the hell are they to have an opinion and vote for a movie accordingly?! Commie Bastards!
YEah dude! You're so right! Damn me for having an opinion too! Just damn me right to hell dammit!

Now now, everyone. We all know MY opinions are the right ones!

And my opinions say the Star Wars Prequels are the most UNDERrated movies ever, the entire Indiana Jones Trilogy rocked, and Roger Rabbit was the greatest movie ever. :^)

'They' are a percentage however.

All this thread and indeed most of the Riffboards comes down to multiple people arguing/agreeing that  "The way I/we see something. is not just the correct way but the ONLY way to see it"

Why has this forum become so hateful lately?  We are all acting like little kids on a long car trip who won't stop fighting.  I say enough.  Play nice forum or I'll turn this car right around!

Roger Rabbit was indeed awesome, we can at least agree on that.

I so want to say that the Nic Cage version of Wicker Man is the most underrated movie that I've ever seen, but I've been trained to look at it as a comedy instead of as a crappy horror movie, and I think this topic is more for appreciating the movie on its own merits instead of appreciating the movie for how stupid it can really be.  So my vote doesn't count.  Like, at all.

That's kind of how I look at Congo.  If you look at it as a thriller based on a popular novel, then yeah, it's terrible.  But if you look at it as an action comedy with loose ties to a similarly-named novel, it's great!

I feel the same about Con Air it's a comedy right?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a rarely mentioned, but VERY overrated movie.  Yes, I enjoyed it, but I think
it's doing the movie a disservice to treat it as tearful, maudlin, acadamy-darling oscar-winning gold.  It was cheeseballing
at its finest!  The over-the-top stereotype mental cases (like the sensitive, quiet giant indian guy who immediately recovers
from his catatonia after Jack Nicholson talks to him), not to mention how quick the audience is to identify a lying, cheating rapist,
pedophile and woman-beater as our hero simply because he takes mental patients along with him on a wild ride of hedonism and
self-indulgent behavior.

This film is a very transparent rebels-vs.-authority movie, and not even a good or serious one like Coolhand Luke.  It pretty much
reduces a lot of deep and complex questions about the mentally disturbed to "crazies are our friends and they shouldn't be caged up;
they should be allowed to spread their wings and SOAR!"   ....and then freak out when something triggers a panic attack and accidentally
kill six or seven people.

In conclusion, this movie fails to be a serious rebels-vs.-authority-figures movie like Coolhand Luke, and it also fails to be a good comedy
about the mentally ill like Harvey, or King of Hearts, although it comes closer to the latter sorts of movie.  This is definitely a movie that requires
you to shut off your brain to enjoy, so I guess that's what the Academy did when they showered it with oscars.

Wait.

When did that become a stereotype?

Oops, cliché was the word I was looking for, not stereotype.   You know, that a convict laying low in a nuthouse can immediately "connect"
with a deeply troubled patient who was beyond the means of the clinic's staff to help.   Clichéd in that hallmarky, chipper sort of "aww,
all he needed was someone to reach out to him, to cure him of his debilitating mental condition!"
