Any Wes Anderson movie, Donnie Darko, Napoleon  Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine.
(or to keep up the level of biting wit perhaps I should have said Wes Yawnderson and Crappie Darko)

Wes Anderyawn would have been better  ;)

the agenda of liking Temple of Doom?

The agenda of sucking up to Speilberg, maybe?  Selling those Indiana Jones DVD sets (instead of everyone waiting until they sell them seperately so they don't have to buy Temple)?  To make Capshaw feel better?

Who knows?  It just makes other movies doing well on there (Hairspray, for instance) suspect.

Who rates this highly?   Outside of Kate Capshaw since that's when she got her hooks into Speilberg....?
I'm afraid Rotten Tomatoes does... believe it or not...  :-

Proof that Rotten Tomatoes is too easily freeped by people with an agenda.

More like people leaping to politicize everything and don't understand how RT works?

Dim of the Yard

Here's the stuff I find to be overrated:

- Napoleon Dynamite
- Brokeback Mountain
- Grease
- Phantom Of The Opera (as filmed in Schumacher-vision)
- V For Vendetta
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail

And can I just say that I'm one of the folks who's probably involved in that liking Temple of Doom agenda?  It was one of the movies that I watched excessively when I was growing up, and it has just enough competence in it to give me a nostalgia kick whenever I pop it in.  (As opposed to a feeling of dread setting in and the thought of, "Dear God, what was I thinking?" and wondering all sorts of things about my desired quality for movies that I get when I watch other such films, like Batman and Robin.)

Anything with Russell Crowe, pretty much, but A Beautiful Mind in particular.  Was I the only one who thought the
ending was complete bullshit?  After his schizophrenia causes his child to nearly drown, he just "comes to terms"
with the phantoms of his demented mind and learns to live with them?  That's fine if the point of the movie is to
take a light-hearted and comedic approach to insanity like Harvey, but for a movie that is supposed to be a
maudlin drama, that's just pure fail.  Boooooooo.

I thought Rushmore was a fabulous movie - even got the soundtrack.  I'd say hands off this one for posterity.
And while we're at it - "The Incredible Mr. Limpit."

No, don't get me wrong I don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other on Anderson, I was merely critiquing Scott's parody name and suggesting a more elegant one.

None of these are bad movies by any means... and I enjoyed them all at some level... just didn't think any of them were outstanding. This is my "Grand Canyon" list... everybody is glad they visited the Grand Canyon, as it is a pretty awe-inspiring sight... but you aren't chomping at the bit to go back their every summer...

Sin City
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
300
Hot Fuzz
the last two Pirates of the Carribean movies (altho I don't know if these are all that highly rated to begin with... but whatever)

While I'm at it, I'd also like to add Peter Jackson's King Kong remake to that list.   Thanks for adding the three
extra hours of exploring the lost island to the movie, Mr. Jackson.  That was clearly the most interesting part of the
original King Kong, not the gigantic ape.   Splicing in scenes from the Jurassic Park trilogy probably would
have worked just as well.   What a boring, tedious movie.  Almost enough to make me hate King Kong altogether.

I receive a really odd message in my private message box, which for some reason I can't reply to, since this thread is the closest to making sense I figured it was part of it. If it isn't then I'm sorry I have no idea what it was about.

naw just like you said, not really overrated... there's a pretty strong hate for those two movies... thank god :)

Heh.  I agree with ScottH, these kinds of threads never go well.  But I'll add my thoughts to the subject just the same:

Most of the "classic" Disney movies I find to be pretty boring:

Bambi
Cinderella
Sleeping Beauty
Dumbo
Snow White & the Seven Dwarves
Fantasia
Robin Hood
The Jungle Book

I much prefer it when they got "sassy" in the late 80s to mid 90s.

Citizen Kane left me feeling cold.  It's technically a masterpiece, but I didn't really enjoy it as much appreciate it.

Pirates of the Caribbean was a dull plod, enlivened only by Johnny Depp.

And I never really saw what the fuss was about with the original Star Wars Trilogy...

I don't know, it was the romance that made that movie for me.

Soft Focus Lady and the guy with the nose? Of course not. Between her and the monkey.
