I know this came up with the announcement.  Just wanted to let everyone know that the 1 and 2 disk versions of the film are the same so the trax will work with both.  The 2 disk claims there are extra scenes but they are on the second disk.  Just thought you'd like to know in case there was some confusion.

Sideswipe

thank you, that is good news.  I was wondering what version I would need for the riff.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

pretty greedy of Warner Bros. to do this by the way... they are quickly becoming my least favorite DVD distributer ... also the 16 dollar 'bare bones' edition I just bought at Target came with scratches... off to make a return... grrr

It came with scratches.  Don't say they didn't give you any bonus features.

Minnesota

yup, disc is unplayable.

I guess I shouldn't call it a bare bones disc... it does have director commentary, just that the 16 dollar version doesn't come with any other bonus features. I was aware of this but I refuse to spend an extra 7 dollars for features that every standard DVD comes with.

How is it greedy?  They let you pick if you want the 1 disc version or the 2 disc version, it seems like the greedy way to do it would be only releasing the 1 disc version now, then releasing a special edition 5 months from now.  Or they could have just released the expensive version and not offered a cheaper alternative at all.

wait you're defending them Douglin? look at it this way, the HD formats only have one edition... the de-facto standard edition, none of this featureless bs ... no matter, I can alway netflix the bonus feature disc, those things only get watched once anyway.

Just Some Guy

The cheaper bare bones being released simultaneously with a special edition has become fairly standard.  It's used much more widely than just Warner Brothers and I don't see it as particularly harmful.  For 95% of the movies I just want the movie and don't care about a featurette where people spend half an hour talking about how great they all are and this practice means that I can just get the movie and pay less.

The price for the bare bones is also in the range for the initial pricing of major releases.  The price drops as the movie falls to the backlist.  Take a look at how the big movies are priced on the day of their release; $19.99 MSRP is where it usually sits for basic editions and $24.99 to $29.99 for special editions.

That's because those formats can hold more data on a single disc, if they tried to fit all the bonus stuff and the film on 1 dvd, they would have to reduce the picture quality of the film, then people would complain.  So they split it over two discs, costs more to produce so they charge more and give you the option to buy a cheaper version...I don't get how it's being greedy that they give you multiple options.

Surely double-dipping months from now would be worse, like the upcoming two disc release of Serenity for example.

I have not played it yet, but the Hot Fuzz dvd comes with some pretty cool special features.

Looks like they have a version you can watch with pop up trivia and some other cool stuff.

i got the bare bones 300 and I did not notice any scratches on mine.......... yet?

Raven

They had a version of Hot Fuzz with a bonus disk exclusive to Wal-mart with it.  It has the first film from the director on it that the movie is loosely based on.  That version was only 3 bucks more so that's the one I picked up.  Not sure if it was worth it or not but it's 3 bucks.  Let you know if I think it's worth picking up when I get around to it.

Although not listed on the back cover, I found one featurett on the DVD, probably what you would call an easter egg... when you enter the commentary page, highlight 'special features' and hit enter, you will be treated to a 7 minute featurett talking about the transition from graphic novel to big screen

I picked up the bare-bones version since I'm guessing there will be an expanded version later on.  Has anybody seen anything suggesting this will happen?    I'm still getting used to the idea that I'll have a third version of Blade Runner to buy in November.

I noticed Wal-Mart had a twin pak of 300 packaged with Alexander-Director's Cut.   Butler's Scottish accent is a walk in the park compared to all the Irish brogues in Alexander.   Don't they realize that all these ancient history films are supposed to be in stiff-upper-lip British voices?
