They think we're all rich, every last one of us. 

It was a shock for one of my best friends, Masumi, to move here with her husband (an American) and wind up living in an apartment the size of a coffin.  She didn't marry him because she thought he was rich, mind you, she really does love him, but I don't think she expected to find 300 sq. ft. apartments outside of Tokyo.
