Okay, when I heard this movie was being filmed, I thought "Destined to flop...." BUT! After seeing the trailer and finding out that Carrell is Max Smart, I COMPLETELY reversed that opinion! Anne Hathaway and The Rock also look promising (cuz in the teaser, all they do is stand there =) )

I'm actually a huge fan of the old Get Smart series. I got hooked on Nick at Nite once upon a time. I want this movie to be good, and short of ressurecting Don Adams through some means of Black Magic, Carell might have been the best casting choice out there. I'm keeping a finger or two crossed. :^)

Looks good,  I love Get Smart and, you know, Anne Hathaway isnea too hard on the eye either.

Alan Arkin is pretty much good in everything he in and the rock can be entertaining./ Wow I actually have high hopes for this one.

J-Proof

Either Carrell or Colbert would have been perfect for the role of Max methinks -- I'm glad they chose one of the two =)

I REALLY hope Brooks gets involved....

Get Smart.  Shop S-Mart.

... Yeah, that's the only real purpose I have for posting in this thread.  I'm going to sulk away now.  Sorry to waste your time.

The movie pretty much rests on Carell's shoulders as he has a lot of history to bear.

I think he is up to it and I hope it is good.

I notice that The Rock is Dwayne Johnson now. Hmm.

And has anyone else thought about whether Dwayne would, were he the right size and ethnicity, make a perfect James T. Kirk?

I thought he had to "rent" the name everytime he wanted to use it in non wrestling situations, I'd get tired of that after a while and revert to being plain Dwayne as well.

Not before you mentioned it but yes he does have a certain "air" about him that could be seen as subtly shatlike.

Ooh I hope this is good!  I love messing around with my boyfriend - he'll say, "Hey, I'm gonna put in a Dragnet episode" and I'll say "OOH I LOVE THE SHOE PHONE."  Drives him crazy ;)

Now THAT'S an oxymoron. :^)

Phooey, you beat me to it!   :D

ETA: The movie does look kind of cute. I always wonder, though -- if it's at the stage where a trailer can be made out of it, why do they have to wait a whole year to release it? There's probably some obvious reason, but I am a child in these matters. ???

Considering the guy he throws the handset at, I hope there's no nude male wrestling in this movie.

googergieger

steve carrel has only ever been worth a damn on the daily show.
Stand by for action!

Can we expect Steve Carrell to become the American version of Rowan Atkinson?  Not so much with the rubbery face, but he sure can act a scene without any dialog.
