"Fuck?!" - quote, Bruce Willis upon hearing that Die Hard was receiving a PG-13 rating

My original confidence in this one started to fade with the last commercial I saw... and it's nothing related to PG-13 or anything...

When you have a trailer with a pretty kickass car chase thing going on... including what appears to be a practically filmed car launching into a helicopter... then you piss all over the vibe with some freakin cartoon CGI car leaping over Bruce Willis and Hi, I'm a Mac.... come on... totally sent my boner into the ground. I'm not a big CGI hater... it has it's place... but those kind of ridculous scenes should be left with Teen Titans or some shit.

Yea, I guess it's just minor nitpick in the big scheme of things... but it really got under my skin for some reason...

Uh, you do remember the previous movies don't you?  The awful job done on the ejector seat/explosion in 2? or the "truck surfing" bit in 3?  If your able to cope with those bad fx then why not this?

Yea... I can see those comparisons having some merit... but neither one stood out as "DUCK! Incoming cartoon!" like that police car did. Yes, it was obvious that Willis wasn't really getting ejected from a plane... but there is something to be said for practical effects (even if it involves blue/green screen elements) for objects that your mind's eye is too keen to be fooled with a CGI counterpart. You can't establish the object as practical for the almost the entire sequence and then try to sneak in a CGI double in the middle and expect it not to stand out. The technology just isn't there yet... I guess I can't fault them for trying... but man... it's just a buzz kill for me everytime.

So it opens today. Who is gonna go view the PG-13ness of it and report back whether it's good or not?

i'm not going to get to see it until tomorrow.  it looks like it will have some cheezy cgi effects and dialogue will be cleaned up a bit to make it pg-13 but overall it still seems to have the fun attitude that made the others good.

Well, I had nothing better to do, so I saw it. It was actually pretty damn good. My only gripe is that you can tell it was edited. It almost seemed like a rated R movie being shown on network tv. Even down to some scenes where the dialogue didn't match up with the lips. But other than that, it was a really cool Die Hard movie.

I'm not letting the edits discourage me because I am almost positive there will be an unedited version for DVD with all the extra little goodies put back in. Oh, and Justin Long didn't suck too bad in it, either.

Great news about Justin Long not sucking

*patiently waiting for uncut dvd as well*

*Patiently waiting for Uncut Quadrilogy*  Hey they already have the trilogy out, might as well wait a few more years for it.

Yep, gotta agree with you on that one.  I find it creepy personally when guys talk about how they got an erection for a movie where its highly inappropriate. By your powers combined, I hope these guys are being figurative.

"Dude, Transformers gave me such a boner."
"Yeah man, that movie was sweet."
"No man, I got one for real."
"Uh..."
"Hmm... Optimus, you are one sexy robot.  Bow Chicka Bow Wow!"

NOTE:  I mean this as an example.  I hereby state that I mean no offense to any Cybertronian, nor any fans of said Cybertronians.  Please do not attack me with any blunt, sharp, gunpowder, or energy weapon.

Actually, I find it creepier if a guy's talking about a genuine boner. Kinda like how fuck is a dirtier word when used to describe sex.

I had the exact same reaction if it makes you feel any better. It's easier to believe a scene, even if the overall effect is bad, if the objects involved are real instead of having an obvious CGI model come flying at you.

It would be really cool if they released the PG-13 version and an R-rated version at the same time.  Not some stupid "unrated director's cut" that has a couple more curses, but a genuine, bonafide, intentional R-rated version.
