The new 2 disc set is actually, for some odd reason, cheaper then the 1 disc on Amazon.com (last time I checked) by about $8. Its labeled as an extended cut, but it includes the theatrical cut as well. I just thought I'd point this out to be helpful.

I only say this because the rifftrax page links in to the more expensive version.

Good catch.

Has anyone watched the extended version of FF? I'm curious.

The extra 20 minutes include a bar scene where Johnny gets a rude awakening and a nice bit between Ben and Alicia where we see more of her comic book origins including an exhibit of her sculpting where she seems to have quickly knocked out some statues of Ben.  If you're familiar with the comics, there's also a quick mention of he who is also known as the Puppet Master.
If you already bought the first DVD release, it might be worth your while since the bonus disc has an excellent doc on Jack Kirby and a 50-minute doc on the history of the comic with interview segments from a number of writers and artists on the book, with the conspicuous absence of John Byrne.  There's also a free pass to the new movie which is good until July 7.

She's always been caucasian in the comics, her step-dad is the Puppet Master and I believe they transferred her affections to Johnny for quite a few years in the book.  I think the first time it happened was when Ben stayed behind on the other planet after the first Secret Wars; the same planet where Spider-Man first got his black symbiote costume.
That's what I'm really waiting for now that Marvel is starting to produce their own movies,  a cross-over.  It will be interesting to see what team they pick if they actually make an Avengers movie.  Will it be characters from earlier films or will they have to settle for members the movie audience has never seen?

Originally I would have said that the animated Marvel films were their way of saying, "This is all you get," but now they're making a live action Iron man, so all bets may just be off.

However, I feel the Comic Book Movie genere is losing some of it's steam, and the always unlikely Avengers movie will become even more unlikely pretty soon.

That's a big selling point. I've really enjoyed the documentaries on many of the marvel DVDs, especially the excellent one from the Daredevil theatrical cut. I wonder if they even bothered to approve Byrne, seeing as he's the biggest dick in comics.

Y'know When they first announced Andre Braugher (star of the TBDSOT*) was cast in the FF sequel, before they'd really confirmed it was a Silver Surfer story, I was hoping he'd be playing Puppet Master. That would've been sweet.

A real test of your theory will happen next year when The Incredible Hulk comes out.  It will really have to be good to overcome the opinion left in much of the audience from Ang Lee's version.  Iron Man isn't well known by the general public but they do have an interesting cast.
Personally, I don't think the Marvel movies have lost any steam with both Spidey 3 and FF2 maintaining the box office of the earlier movies.  DC had a glitch in the performance of Superman Returns that we'll have to wait and see if they can get past, but The Dark Knight should match the success of Batman Begins easily, in my opinion.

The Incredible Hulk's success lies all in the marketing. The Hulk's still a beloved character even outside of fandom, despite the Ang Lee film, so all they have to do is establish that this movie will feature plenty of the jade giant smashing stuff, and I think people will turn out in droves, especially considereing the stellar casting.

My brain nearly melts with anticipation whenever I consider an Avengers movie, but the sheer logistics of it make the prospect doubtful. Marvel Studios has the rights to all the characters now, but based on Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, they're keen on casting big names, which means big $$$. If you factor into the budget what it would take to keep on Robert Downey Jr, Ed Norton, and whoever they cast for Captain America, Thor, etc, there's not a lot of money left for the special effects and whatnot. That said, it would make an awesome movie. They'd probably borrow elements from Avengers #1, adding modern day elements from Ultimates - Cap, Iron Man, Thor, and probably Ant-Man all show up to help when the Hulk goes beserk, then team up to battle whatever big bad it is that set off Hulk in the first place.

By the way, has everybody heard that Sam Jackson's playing Nick Fury in the Iron Man movie? Every little bit I hear about this movie gets better and better.

I bought the extended cut for 10 bucks at the Better Buy last week, the reg edition was also only 10 dollars... haven't watched the extended cut yet

although let it be told that I greatly appreciate this style of film making ... movies are WAY to fking long nowadays... just wish every crappy action film would have the balls to shorten their theatrical release in light of an extended DVD release (I'm looking at you James Bond/ Pirates 2/ Superman/ etcetera ...!)

As long as they don't cut out significant plot points and character development. I'm looking at you, Daredevil.
