Copper Mountain
Feature film ยท 2021

Canadians Jim Carrey and Alan Thicke star in a Club Med feature-length commercial for a now-defunct Club Med Ski Resort.

With Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett

Long before Nature Called or Harry Met Lloyd, Jim Carrey was just another Canadian. And as we all know, most Canadians spend their free time vacationing with Alan Thicke. The fellas decide to ignore their glaring age difference and hit the slopes at Copper Mountain. What follows is a mountain retreat that goes about as well as Jack Torrance's did, but with more annoying* Sammy Davis, Jr. impressions.

The whole thing was intended as product placement for a resort chain, but it's pretty subtle. In fact, we don't even think you'll CLUB MED notice!  Although considering how much of the movie is devoted to not one but two cover performances of CCR's "Lodi" by Ronnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Copper Mountain was sponsored by one of their competitors. What's important is: the resort in question is no longer in business!

Get your skis shined up, grab a stick of Juicy Fruit, and join Mike, Kevin, and CLUB MED Bill for Copper Mountain!

*Experts agree this is the only type of Sammy Davis, Jr. impression

Jim Carrey AND Alan Thicke!?!?  What could go wrong?
I have heard some excellent Alan Thicke impressions and I really hope there are some in the riffs. It'll take a lot to top Dangerous Men though.
Earlier today I severed my own head and attached it to the bell of this baritone saxophone.

Pastor of Muppets

This riff was so-so.  I feel like the guys had nothing to work with because the movie was just so boring.  It didn't have the sort of melodrama, bad acting, and unintentional silliness that makes good riffing fodder.  It mainly just had Jim Carrey doing obnoxious impressions, and a lot of singing.  Mostly singing.  This was basically a concert movie.
I'm not particularly religious, and I don't really like Muppets, but I do love word play.

I bought it, was about to watch, and then read a synapsis. Thought that maybe this is one of those that they cut a lot out of - the majority of the music maybe - but nope OG run time matches the riffed run time. Will definitely watch at some point, but seems like one of those I'm just going to have to be in the right state of mind before watching.

Yeah... this was not good.  It reminded me of Hillbillies in a Haunted House in that there were just too many songs

Funny thing, when I rewatched Hillbillies a while back, I enjoyed it more than the first time. It's solid for me now. It's a rare case of a movie they riffed that was supposed to be funny, but isn't, but the way they do it allows the guys jokes to land.

This OTOH, does not sound like it has the right goofy feel for me. Kind of like Fairy King of Ar, which I saw when they put it up on youtube and I was like, 'Thank god I didn't pay for this.'

Fairy King also takes a few viewings to click, I've found. The Twitch and Pluto TV episodes have improved my perception of a number of Rifftrax films that just weren't hitting right for me when they first came out. Something about seeing them in regular rotation, and watching them a bit more casually than I did when it was, "Was this worth my $10 just now?"

Well, this is only 60 minutes but they are still charging ten buck. That seems kind of wrong.

There's precedent for that. Fun in Balloon Land and the Bridget and Mary Jo Teen-Ager films all clock in at about an hour and still go for full price. The cut-off seems to be somewhere around 40 minutes.
