I actually heard about Rifftrax through www.dapcentral.org (Thanks Tarantulas!) but what I really want to know is how all the new people (and older ones) that are coming in and saying hello here found out about rifftrax.
So please share your story!
I heard about rifftrax from the MST3K Discussion board.
http://forrestcrow.proboards47.com/index.cgi (http://forrestcrow.proboards47.com/index.cgi)
Ok maybe I should say "How you heard about rifftrax and what your first reaction was..."
Thanks for the reply though spock.
I found out about it on the IMDB website. People were talking about it on Mike's profile board and on the MST3K board. I checked into and was absolutely estatic when I heard about Mike, Kevin, and Bill doing commentary for more modern movies. It's a very cool concept and I'm glad Mike found a way to do it without infringing on any copyrights. Rifftrax rocks!
Satellite News had a story about it when it first started. That's how I found out about it.
Bought Roadhouse when it was the only one available, so I've been a Rifftrax customer since the beginning.
If I not mistaken, I found out about Rifftrax from reading the online MST3K daily newsletter.
My response? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
What they said MST3k.com
It's a little hazy. I think the euphoria I experienced caused me to lose track of all space and time. Probably Satellite News, though.
I read the blurb at the Satellite News website, and nearly soiled myself in glee. Moments later I was downloading the Star Trek V RiffTrax. You all know the rest.
Satellite News. I came over here and the site was still in beta and Roadhouse was coming soon.
I came in right after Mike did Fifth Element. So enthusiastic was I that I even helped update the Wikipedia page and have altered other related pages to link to either Legend Films or RiffTrax.
But let's not turn this into a whole "Who Has the Most Riff Cred" thing. I'd lose. There's a thread idea: "What Have You Done for RiffTrax?"
Legend Films Fanclub e-mail.
I was beyond elated! Too good to be true!

Thats not the goal of the topic...the goal is to find out how people are hearing about the site and also to hear there fan reaction.
I wonder also how many people who are hear had never seen/heard about MST3k before coming to rifftrax.
I must give Udvarnoky of the DVD Verdict forum many thanks for alerting me to the creation of Rifftrax!

My first purchase was Road House when the site was still in beta form. Then I bought The 5th Element @ $1.99 and the rest is...
I was notified via email from Legend Films, from whom I'd purchased all Mike's riffed movies. My first thought was :D, quickly followed by :'( :'( :'( because at the time I had a computer with Windows ME and a dial-up connection. I'd been given an I-pod for Christmas which my OS wouldn't support, and it would've taken hours to download the riffs. I finally got a new computer and broadband connection this past September and Rifftrax was one of the first, if not the first site I visited. I seem to remember they had three movies available at the time (or possibly two and one on the way).
I was also but a humble MST3K fan, who found out about RiffTrax through the mst3kinfo.com site. I signed up immediately (the site was also still in beta) and they were working out the kinks of the newsletter. Joined the forum at the same time and downloaded Fifth Element and Road House, and Star Trek 5 was coming soon.
My first reaction was "YES!!!!!!!!!" .. I think I startled some of my coworkers, who immediately wanted to know what all the fuss was about. I've been a fan ever since (and continue to be, even after being hired by Legend).
Funny what can happen over the span of a few months :)
EDIT: Also, great idea for a thread. Made it a sticky.

Same here. On both points. :)
Heard about it from DAP central. Once I went to the site I was very excited, but I had no place to vent my excitement. I had to wait a few days for the forum to be made, then it all spewed out into 500+ posts.

Believe me, I still get star-struck. Whenever Mike walks into the room it's like "Whoa! It's Mike!" haha. I actually had to ask permission from Kevin and Mike for a few moments to be a "fan" and have them sign my box sets :)
So yeah - as I said when I first got brought on, I'm a big-time fan and will make it my purpose to keep my fellow fans happy with their RiffTrax experience. Which is why I'm always working, even on weekends 8)
I found out about it thru the MST3k group I belong to on My Space. Once I got a decent Mp3 player I downloaded four movies. Road House, The Matrix, Star Trek 5, and Episode 1. They had just done Point Break when I discovered the site.

Really? So Myspace is actually good for something... Huh. Who knew?
Chalk one more up for finding out through Satelite News. I actually have it as my start page on my web browser. Soon as I found out, I sent an Email to my wife (She was at work) and said, "I never thought I'd say this, but let's rent Roadhouse!" A couple weeks later, the round table opened up and the rest is very carefully chronicled by me throughout these forums. :^)

Me too.
Just about went balistic when I read about it.
I heard about RiffTrax just shortly after the release of "Road House" from James Lileks' daily bleat. My initial reaction was that it seemed like a pretty good excuse to write a review (http://www.teevee.org/archive/weblog/2006/08/24/034018.html) and conduct an interview (http://www.teevee.org/archive/weblog/2006/10/12/150746.html). And, 250 posts later (hey, I'm Magneto-cent now!) here I am, still fartin' around on the forums.
If any of you are unfamiliar with Lileks, he's a personal friend of Mike, and a damned funny guy in his own right. If you have multiple hours to kill, you could do far worse than to visit his site (http://www.lileks.com).
Well, I'm a member of an MST3K forum where we discuss the episodes, the various DVD's, many of which have eaten into my food money (pun intended). Someone on there posted about Rifftrax and after reading about it, decided to put out the ca$h almost right away with the release of Fifth Element. Mostly cause I didn't have Roadhouse on DVD, but I did have Fifth Element, and I've been a rifftrax continual customer since.
On the MST3K forum, I'm a moderator and a dedicated spam deleter.
I was watching MST3K on YouTube (Puma-Man I think) and somebody mentioned it in one of the comments so I googled it or something and voila, a fan was born.
My reaction was-Yes! I was especially psyched to see bloated, big-budget blockbusters being lampooned.
The SomethingAwful thread. I've been a Mystery Science Theater fan for a while, but I didn't follow it on the web too closely. SomethingAwful, which is chock full of misties (seriously, count the Biff McLargehuge variants) had that thread up within like a day of the Roadhouse beta. Good times, good times.

Finding Riff Trax for me was like someone dying of thirst and then finding an ice cold beer. I had broke my back in the beginning of 2003 and had to lay on my stomach for about 5 months straight and Mike and the Bots helped me get through it.By the time I was able to enter the world again, I had no problem saying goodbye to the pain killers, but my MST addiction only grew. I've watched MST at levels only a laboratory rat could appreciate. Most of the ones I have over done it with are the later ones with Bill. I guess thats why I'm so pushy about having all three of them together....Also it would bring balance to the world. :P ..Either way I will be happy with what ever line up they choose. Oh yeah,... I found out about it through the Info site around the time Top Gun was new. GOD BE PRAISED!!!
I think it was mst3kinfo.com. It had to be, I don't know where else I'd have heard about it. I bought the Road House riff back when the site was still in the Beta testing stage, loved it, and have been here ever since.
I found out about this rather by accident. I was watching some MST on youtube when I stumbled upon a 3 min preview of the LotR riff he did. Needless to say, as I dug further to find a full version of this, I came across a comment that suggested this site and so here I am. I am definitly looking forward to getting some of these riffs. :-D Just gotta love it!
Hmm well sadly I heard of this place from a music bit torrent tracker site. I saw Mike Nelson Rifftrax - Matrix. I downloaded it to see what it was. I realized that it was just like MST3K but on more recent popular movies. I loved it and from then on I bought all the rifftrax I've listened too. My first reaction was almost me peeing my pants.
I've noticed that besides Satellite News and other MST-related sites, many people target customers have stumbled upon RiffTrax simply by dumb luck. I think this says that RiffTrax needs more and/or better marketing. Sure, the concept is best explained by citing MST, but I'm sure there're ways to market it to the uninitiated.
Unfortunately some of the more obvious places don't want to play along, TORN, AICN, other suggestions?
IGN.com?
what would be the angle that they would be interested in? Geekyness? I thought it was just games.
They have a DVD and a movie section. I tried writing them about it in their mailbag a while back and never got a reply...

Different audience, man. Those Wrestlecrap guys celebrate all the stupid things that show up in pro wrestling, and that covers about 90% of pro wrestling. No surprise that folks who can laugh at one form of crappy entertainment would have an appreciation for Joel, Mike and the rest of the guys making fun of another form of entertainment.
Rap fans, for the most part, take themselves too serious. Years ago I tried to get some of my rap listening friends to sit through an episode of MST3K. They didn't get it at all (how can you not get "Horror of Party Beach"?!?), and after giving up on my experiment, they changed the channel to BET's Rap City. Their loss.

Yeah, I think you just nailed it in this case. I should say for the record that I do like rap, but when it comes to "most" fans, these are some of the most easily offended people in the world (pretty ironic considering the taboo lyrics of most songs) and they are so dam fickle about their prefferences too.
Two worlds that werent ment to collide I guess ;)
well they don't collide too often. Luke Ski raps and likes MST3K. He's referenced it more than once, Nummy Muffin is available on his free mp3s page at the moment. http://www.lukeski.com/freemp3s.htm it's an older song though so haven't checked what the quality is on that one. He's also did a parody of another song, I think it was Science Fiction Double Feature called Mystery Science Theatre Picture Show on his Carpe Dementia album from from 1999
I heard about Rifftrax through www.satellitenews.com. I was so excited that I asked for an MP3 player for Christmas just to download the riffs! I am not really a person who has to carry 1000 songs around with them, so I'd never bought one. I am a person who appreciates the humor of my old friends from MST3K and the good Mr. Nelson, so today I'm ready to go! Keep up the good work!
I guess I can answer this (mostly because I'm pretending to be really busy so my family won't bother me anymore, lol). I've bought most of the autographed DVD releases from Legend and I heard about rifftrax from an email from Legend.
Now, how did I hear about the DVD releases? I have no idea. Maybe I stumbled across them on Satellite news. While I don't check the site often, I sometimes do when I'm bored. I remember the last time I visited it I found out Mike was coming to AR (my state, yes I own it) and I almost "missed" it so maybe I should check more often.
no offence but hasn't the "mst3kinfo" newsletter been dead for awhile? cant we just start referring to it as "MST3K.COM" yet?
Creatures of habit maybe... but the show is looooong gone and this would help spread the word to people under the age of 25
I think what you refer to something as doesn't really matter to people under 25 anymore as long as you link it I could say that website about the show (http://www.mst3k.com) and people would still get the point. So, calling it the MST3k Newsletter or Satellite News or whatever doesn't matter.
There's a big difference in how you talk to fans of a show as opposed to how you talk to people who don't know the show. That goes for any type of TV show you enjoy (or anything for that matter). I don't think talking in URLs is the way to get new fans because quite honestly, mst3k.com isn't that "flashy" or grabbing. It's made for hardcore fans. A person just trying to figure out the show would be over whelmed and possibly frightened. ;D
I think re-airing the show is a way to get new fans which isn't going to happen...short of that, putting rifftrax in people's stockings is also a good way. Nobody is going to "get" the concept from a website if they haven't watched MST3k. I even think the clips poorly convey the concept because they're too short and if you didn't really get it, you'd just be confused. The best way is to watch a movie.
I heard about it one day when I was looking through G4's Feed.
I heard about it through the forums for The Agony Booth (agonybooth.com). Most of the folks who post there are MST3K fans.

I discovered rifftrax (for myself, because obviously I didn't discover rifftrax like one would find a new continent and say "I have discovered this land in the name of...") while looking for why MST3K vol. 10 was recalled. Actually, I don't remember how I found out. I was probably the mst3kinfo.com mailing list, and I don't normally follow links they provide. Likely I was finally induced to check it out via www.dapcentral.org (I'm a regular there on the DAP-DVD IRC channel.)
Bit torrent...
MST3K came up over and over while talking to a friend and I started downloading the DVDs off myspleen and started remembering how much I loved the show when I would catch it when I was little and when my dad brought home the movie from Blockbuster possibly before I even knew what it was. One day while on a certain bit torrent site I remembered said friend talking about a Mike stand up recording being on there and decided to search Mike Nelson. This ended up being around the time the LOTR rifftrax was released so it was already on there so I grabbed it and put it on my ipod to bring over to my mom's for Thanksgiving since my little bro's huge on LOTR and Star Wars. Then since then have continued to buying the occasional riff and coming here when I've been bored
So there, bit torrent is helpful :P

I've been to your MST website several times.
I got an email bulletin from Sampo's website.....www.mst3k.com
Found it on the IMDB forums. My neverending quest for useless information turned into something good.
please explain
I found this website on a forum I was using to search for new torrents for some old sci-fi flicks I wanted. I had planned to DL them and burn them to DVD instead of having to watch them on VHS-only.
One of the entries in the forum had a mention of a movie i wanted that had been done on MST3k (Squirm). I have an unquenchable thirst for awful movies and Squirm is certainly that.
They mentioned Rifftrax as a way to get a new fix for my MST addiction.
That's how I made it here. :-)

Heard about it from friends, saw one of the live shows at SF Sketchfest.
I had just put a razor blade in a glass, in order to communicate with the spirit of Abe Lincoln, when a ghostly voice declared that if I liked MST3K and didn't know what to do then I should try out rifftrax because I wouldn't know until I tried it. Or I heard about it from MST3K.com. I can't really remember.

As I look back now, I believe that I foolishly thought that in addition to his books, that Mike was now endorsing/selling DVD's and that they were too expensive for my budget. As it turns out, thankfully I was only half right

I found out about Rifftrax through 4chan's /tv/ board, plenty of MST3K fans throughout that site (it is the unwanted offspring from SomethingAwful, so there are similarities). I'm thinking of buying the riff of The Matrix since I saw a preview clip of it on YouTube and laughed my ass off. Keep em coming, Mike!

I heard it trough a grapevine. No, I was talk´n to this guy on a swedish community (Helgon.net) about mst3k and he told me about it. And I am very happy that he did :)
I heard of Rifftrax via a site called Redszone (NOT a fansite for the Warren Beatty film, but the Cincinnati Reds). In a "TV shows which were cancelled too soon" thread, I was lamenting the early end of MST3K, when I was pointed in this direction.
My life is now complete and Karma is my friend.

if karmic retribution is real, apparently the universe want mike to keep up riffing. I heard about it through mst3k.com but i really hope you guys find other avenues for getting the word out. I would really love to see this spread past just us mysties.
Lord knows I'm trying my best over at my DA gallery....
One of the sample vids(The Matrix, actually) came up on YouTube as I was done watching something else, and I saw Mike's name in the title, thought to myself.."waitaminnit..that's the guy from..." I clicked on it, watched it and immediately came over and bought a few, with The Matrix being the first one.
I just wanna say, Mike, Kevin, Bill, keep up the amazingly funny, sidesplitting work. You're filling a void a lot of us have had after MST3K went off the air and I for one applaud the lot of you for it. Thank you.

I played the Episode 1 RT for a friend of mine, a serious Star Wars & Lucas sackswinger(the type that buys everything the man has put out to date, merchandising, videos, etc) and he loved it. He never was that much into MST, but he got a real kick out of it.

For the longest time I've been saying it about MST3K, and I think that it applies here as well, It's something of an acquired taste. You know, the sort of "we think it smells of cheese, but th really good cheese..." sort of thing...
i think the average rifftrack is different JUST enough to have a much wider appeal, i think thats one of the reasons i was against troll 2. I mean Ill enjoy it, but i think it closes the door on some of the potential audience. Some of the people i have shown this too who have really liked in fact, but never watched mst3k.
Even with the fact that there's a Trax for it, I'm not likely to rush out and get that one too soon. Or The Grudge, for that matter. I'm just not one for the thriller/slasher type movies, I'm afraid...
...another find through myspace, completely by accident. I don't remember why I was looking at anything in myspace - I only recall finding a link to the RIFFTRAX beta site (I believe it was through a MSTie fan profile or some such thing). As soon as I came to, I went running throught the streets naked with my hair on fire. I told the officer I was in ecstacy, he thought I was on it. Anyway, to make a short story really long, I'm enjoying all of the RIFFTRAX, since I can't wonder much further than curbside without this stupid bracelet making a gawdawful noise. My psychiatrist told my parole officer I should receive a reduced sentence, but only if I promise not to throw Flaming Hot Cheetos at the judge this time.

Yo. Not entirely sure what I was originally looking for, but I ended up reading about "The Phantom Menace" on wikipedia....there just happened to be a mention of Rifftrax near the end of the article....for TPM no less....so I joined last night, bought TPM track, taped TPM off of Tivo (less than two hours later..what are the chances?) and watched it. Funny as anything I've seen recently. Does anybody else have any problems keeping that one synched up? Or is there some secret I don't know about?
Would need a little bit more info? PAL, NTSC? perhaps the VHS version was played on TV rather than the DVD version.
I'm not sure.....would that have made that much of a difference? Because I would have it synched to the point where it felt really good...and then all of a sudden they'd start telling jokes before the cues came up...so i'd pause the mp3 player for a sec or two, and it would work, but it just seemed to gradually go again. Like I said, I'm really not sure if it was just me or if the movie is just off.
http://www.rifftrax.com/smf/index.php?board=18.0 is probably a better place to ask, but that sounds like PAL rifftrax to NTSC film effect to me.
Well I've been buying Mike's Legend dvds so when I heard about this....I didn't download any. :D
I just picked my 5th or 6st download. Waiting for it now. :-

To prove my sad state of living I already had 90% of the movies he had sound tracks for, downloaded LOTR and played the first 10 minutes without the movie and laughed my ass off. Figured if its that good without the movie then with time to plan a rifftrax party! Mike can't make these fast enough!

Well it DOES say other forum / site. Not necessarily an MST forum or MST site so that could be pretty wide ranging.
We can look at our stats and see how many people come from digg or a story that's been "dugg." The answer: not many.
I heard about it through Wikipedia. I read entries on Best Brains-->MST3k-->Mike Nelson-->RiffTrax.
I found about about RiffTrax while looking up "Plan 9 from Outerspace" on Wikipedia. I looked at the bottom of the artical where they have related links to other Wikipedia articals and one of them was for Rifftrax. I clicked on that link, started to read it and my jaw nearly hit the ground in suprise! I came to Rifftrax, immediately bought the riff to Star Trek V and I was laughing myself into a bad headache within minuets.
Rifftrax are an excellent idea! You can riff any movie you want, MST3K fans get more of the great humor and the prices are great. Everybody wins!

Might have been me. I've seen a few people leaving comments like "Man I wish those guys were still around..." and so I leave a comment saying "RiffTrax.com!" or something similar :)
heh I did that yesterday, on IRC someone was all 'MST3K!!!' so I message them with the sample to STVI, and they are all like 'hey that's..!!' 'yep. check out www.rifftrax.com'.
I read about it in an offhand way too. I read Lileks.com for his daily blurbs and he hung out with Mike a couple of times when he lived in Minn. He mentioned Rifftrax and I came right on over.

I just tried that as well, unfortunately, I every time I went to post a comment or send a pm, I'd get a request to confirm My e-mail. I would then go to my e-mail and click on the required link. Then I would get a confirmation message. Then when next I went to post it would happen all over again. Finally I had to clear my cookies, and restart My browser. Now it says that my comments have been added, but I've yet to see evidence of that...

Me too, I love Lileks's Daily Bleat. When I read about Mike's "new" project, months ago, I headed over to rifftrax.com right away (long time MST3K fan) and the only riff available was Roadhouse, so I put it the movie in our Greencine queue. It arrived last week and I came back here to download the riff, and found so many more riffs available! We watched Roadhouse last night and just about did laughing. We'll probably try LotR tonight :)
Thanks, Mike and everyone!
Brought up in a conversation about the old mst3k episodes with my family i have discovered what the ms3tk crew was doing now a days by doing a google search and i had found this site. My first thought was... what is this? so i read and read and thought... now this is funny... looked at the sample videos and was hooked. I just bought the Star Trek 6 RiffTrax today.
Late, I know, but for me it had to be the good ole' Satellite news...which is still more interesting to me than the real news...

#4, which was sold here as #2 Here's the reference, straight from Wikipedia...
Tellah was once the wisest Sage in Mysidia and master of all spells. After a drastic accident while casting a spell, Tellah retired to Kaipo and refrained from using magic, eventually forgetting most of his spells. After the death of his wife, Tellah became very over-protective of his only daughter Anna, and becomes furious when learning of her engagement to the "spoony bard" Edward of Damcyan. He accompanies Cecil to Damcyan to find Edward, and initially blames and scorns Edward. However, after several events, such as the fact that Anna sacrificed herself for Edward, and when Edward plays his Twin Harp to weaken the Dark Elf, Tellah's perception of Edward improves."
Oh wow...that brings back memories...that was like the early obscure part of the game too... I mean edward may have been the wussiest FF character ever, and tellah was basically Jerry Garcia

I now live in Wisconsin...am marrying a graduate of UW...and, found Giant Spider Invasion miraculously hilarious. Since I didn't have cable for the Sci-Fi episodes of MST...I felt a hollow place in my heart...
But through the magic of YouTube, and some friendly tipsters...I was finally turned to this site. It's like...well...I'm not good at analogies...So, it's like a really good pie, that you thought was done, but there's still a piece left, or like, you forgot a bite on the plate, and you remember...oh yeah, I forgot about that piece of pie.
So, this site, these rifftrax...are like pies.
Dan
Also, I met Kevin Murphy at the Orlando Premiere of the MST movie...and I screwed up, yelling out something about Killdozer. He was gentle in chiding me and signing my Amazing Colossal Episode Guide...I treasure it to this day.

welcome to the fold man. 6 months thats nothing, thats a hockey season... fear for the poor souls that come even later.
Thanks! Can't wait to listen to my first riff. I'm downloading several and stocking them up for parties. They are precious things and not to be used until I have at least 3 friends over to share them with. Now, I am a Texan living in southern Japan, what is this "hockey" of which you speak?

Now, how are you going to make this up to me? *crosses arms, and taps foot*
Well, we haven't really done any advertising yet... so imagine yourself as a pioneer, discovering RiffTrax for others to see! You can even have a horse and carriage, and some kind of attack along the trail from natives before you can even get to Oregon!
I was trying to think of where I would have heard about it, through advertising or something else. Probably Digg or someplace. I saw a few attempts to get the article to the front page, but nothing got more than 12 diggs. If you could get one promoted higher, a lot of eyes would see it. Maybe those youtube videos will go viral.
Ah, the Oregon Trail... if it was anything like the computer game, I would have capsized while fording the river and been swept away.

Yeah, be glad because there's a ton you haven't seen yet! The rest of us are salivating in expectation of the next new riff ;D
Yeah. The time between seeing the last Rifftrax and not knowing what's next, however brief it usually is, seems like a small eternity. :^)
Have they been maintaining that week-and-a-half to two-week time frame?
Pretty much.
I'm hoping the delay this time means we're going to get something good...I'm pretty hopeful there...
Seems like Lost Season 1 would certainly take a bit of time. I can't even imagine.
Yeah, it would cover almost a third of the cumulative riffs that have been done...
I wonder... how would they price and sell it? Per episode? $1.49 perhaps? The whole season for $19.99? Ah well, no worries for me, I haven't even watched my first Riff yet. Although I did rent Daredevil last night and plan to have my first Riff viewing this afternoon. I can't wait.
For what it's worth, these polls may only help clue the fanbase in general. As far as which movies will be done, but not in what particular order they get done.
Indeed. I think I see one reason why this project is so fun to me though. Every few weeks they could release a track for anything... a tv show, classic bad movie, recent blockbuster... It's like Christmas every couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to my first 20 questions. I guess it's been about two weeks since Wicker Man now... anytime now then?
Damn, I wish I knew more than 3 people in a 50 mile radius who spoke english and could enjoy these with me.
You'll probably see a 20 Questions this Friday. :^)
Heard about Rifftrax via Legend Films, who then reminded me about it again here at GreenCine. And then through the MST3k info site. And through Mike Nelson. And through the powers of my mind! "I do not fly, but my mind does!" ;D
[Freakazoid!]"I did it with my miiiiiiiind..."[/F!]
I've been a long fan of MST3K...so while looking around the internet, i got an ad for this website!!
Really an Ad? Where? I haven't seen any yet.
there are probablly dozens of them, I would hedge a bet that mst3k.com is the most popular "ad" link, but I imagine most updated mst3k sites make mention of rifftrax with an "ad" logo.
I heard about Rifftrax from the editor's comments in Macworld February 2007!

I love my mst3k friends - we meet every week here at college and one of them mentioned this site randomly a few weeks ago. I have seen SO many crappy movies over the years, wishing the crew from BBI was still around to give them the riffing they deserve.
Glad to see professional riffing is alive and well ;D
i found this by searching for "mystery science theater 3000 wav files" when i log out of windows i hear "push the button frank." its awesome.
Wikipedia actually. On their MST3K page, down in "Influences and other appearances", there's a blurb about Rifftrax. I followed the link and the rest is history. ;D
I first read about it from Wikipedia then i heard about it even more from the Lowtax interview.
thats it

Give it time, if not through RiffTrax and current blockbusters, then perhaps through Legend Films other entity, The Film Crew with any of the older more obscure, and therefore cheaper movies in the public domain and their ilk, in due time , they all will hopefully feel our combined wrath.. I honestly can't remember, I was probably looking at MST3k.com and there must have been a link, all I know is that suddenly I had about a dozen rifftrax and had to go out and locate copies of some truly awful films. My greatest surprise was that someone gave me a copy of battlefield earth just about a month before the rifftrack was announced. Luck... or devine punishment? You decide.
Wow, how do you respond to a gift like that?
"Gee, you shouldn't have,... no really, I mean that."
A month later.
"Hey thanks a lot for Battlefield Earth!"
lol, yeah. suddenly all these movies my great aunt sally sends me for my birthday have new meaning. well so long as i have the trax to go with them... other wise i try not to look at them. it just makes me welll up inside :P

I heard about Rifftrax when I realized that Mike Nelson had a MySpace page. Saw it on there and thought to myself "What is this Rifftrax you speak of?" Checked it out and nearly peed my pants with delight!!
As obscure as this is, I actually heard about Rifftrax from a Mancow's Morning Madhouse podcast (seeing as he bailed on the Chicago radio market) I downloaded solely cause it said "Mike Nelson" was a guest star, and he was literally like the last 15 min. of the show. All in all, well worth it to find out about this. Man I miss MST3K re-runs.

Now there's a unique challenge for Mike and the rest if ever I did see one. The only thing that I can think of is if and when either RiffTrax, or more probably Sharecrow get a move on and finish work on a media player that will automatically synch up the DVD and the MP3 commentary. Then again it'd also have to provide subtitles for both, while at the same time differentiating them one from another. Man torgos, this one time I deffinitely

I had first heard the "talk" of rifftrax through the MST3k info and Mike and Kevin's sites.
I forgot about it all until I found the Chad Vader videos, and subsequently the Chad Vader Rifftrax preview. From there, I was instantly hooked! I love MST3K, and love the guys' work involved. I can't wait to sit down with my new tracks!

I found out a looonng time ago from forrescrow.proboards47.com. I was a poster on there for a little bit.
I saw a thread about Rifftrax when it first came around, so I took a look. As much as it made me laugh that Roadhouse was the first movie, I didn't have it in my DVD library at the time (Blasphemy, I know!). So, anyways, I wandered off into the desert for a while, until one day it hit me.."Hey, doesn't the Film Crew have a website?"...which reminded me of Rifftrax, so I came here again....and saw a virtual cornucopia of material. So, I gladly gave my money for 6 downloads.
Now I'm hooked.
I found it on The Pirate Bay.
Well. Here's where P2P comes in handy for the person trying to sell something.
I saw the movie in theatre years ago. Thought it was hysterical (I just knew I shouldn't have ordered the extra-large drink!! I think the seat's still wet :D).
A few days ago I chatted with a neighbour about MST3K. So I figured I'd look up The Pirate Bay and see what's available. I downloaded a few of the very early shows. Eww. The quality of the image was not so good: wobbly old video.
I figured it was time to do some research on MST3K: Who started it? What does Wikipedia have to say? Where are they now? Are they really human? In my many travels I crash landed onto this weblog: (http://www.teevee.org/archive/weblog/2006/08/24/034018.html (http://www.teevee.org/archive/weblog/2006/08/24/034018.html)) My ship was damaged; there was no stopping the oozing radiation. Before it exploded I managed to detect the link to RiffTrax on sensors. I safely beamed here. My crew are dead. I'm the only survivor. Spock. Spock! Spawwwwwk! ;)
:-[ So I've mended my piratey ways. I do legal Rifftrax downloads now. I pay my $2.99. I feel... all... clean inside.
Seriously. These Riffs are what I've come to expect from the show. True: I miss the robot silouettes... and the seats... and *sniff* Crow. But we can't have everything now, can we. ;)
I've only just discovered the wealth of MST3K clips and shorts on YouTube. It was while watching the short "Spring Fever" that I saw a link to another video having to do with Chad Vader, claiming that Mike and Kevin were in it. And sure enough, they were.
The rest is history. And given that I only saw this tonight, it's a brief history.

Okay. The Lederhosen-hosen are, well: to be honest, they're very tight. I can barely breathe. Do you have them in size 36? Let's see what else's in the box.
Oooo. A Porkerina. I haven't seen one of these since... well, since... OK. I've never seen one of these before. Fine. Ooo. Wait. It makes pig noises. Reminds me of the pig sounds from wayyy back on Green Acres or something.
Ahh. Does this drum machine still work? "dink, doop doop, dink, doop doop, dink..." click Sorry. I'll mess with it later.
I see Eragon is next on the list of films to receive a tongue lashing. Cool. My daughter will get a kick out of that. She saw the film. I can't tell you what her reaction will be. But then again: she's 14 years old. We never know what her reaction will be. ;)
I downloaded the RiffTrax for Battlefield Earth. The only problem with it? Ya gotta watch the flick. That's really painful. IMDB members gave it a 2.3/10. And I think they're being generous, in fact. Still. Great riffing. I think Mike's "going nuts" near the end says it all about this dog of a film.
Thanks, Thom_Serveaux, for the welcome. ;D

Sorry about the BGC, my technicians are working on that as we speak. As to the Lederhosen-hosen, simply attach your standard variety garden hose, and turn on the spigot. as the Lederhosen-hosen begin to fill, they will begin to expand as well. If at some point they expand too far, simply utilize the attached drain plug...

Muchas Gracias!
In Sunday's new York Times. I nearly plotzed when I found out about the site. ;D
I heard about Rifftrax by regular the MST3K Info Club emails I receive. I don't consider Rifftrax MST3K version 2.0, but it's the next best thing!
I had heard about Rifftrax before, but that was when I was temporarily poor (it does sometimes happen). More recently I saw an article about Rifftrax on Digg and I thought to myself "I am currently not poor, I should purchase some fine riff trax." and so I did. And laughed! And found it good.

First substantiated referral from the Times article. Cool.
Also, welcome. Pull up a stool.
FOund it off of G4TV and their blog on G4TV.com called The Feed. And i thank them for it, I LOVED MST3K and i'm glad it's back, atleast in some way!

Found out via NYT and http://www.Digg.com (http://www.digg.com)
Good god I'm so happy I found out.
lordy! I heard about this wonderful product in last Sunday's New York Times of all places. And thank goodness, it is quite possible that I've never laughed as hard in my life as when, in Episode 1 of Star Wars, Queen Amidala comes on with her "earwax collectors" and there's the steady "plop, plop" noise. I lost it. It hurt the ribs bad.
Brian.

Heard about it on another forum and thank god that I did. I love the old MST3Ks, and it is awesome that they are back at it. Good idea to just do the mp3s, now there is no problem with any copyright problems.
mst3k info
I learned about RiffTrax when I went on a MST3K binge and after sitting through just about every season with Mike Nelson at the helm of the SOL I decided to look for more. After a little bit on Google, I found my way here. I love this stuff! I even pimp it out on my home page.
I discovered it like many others here because of the Satellite News.
I've been buying and watching the now improved movies for months.
Didn't notice the forums until recently.
I heard about RiffTrax from the Wikipedia entry on Neil Patrick Harris. Thank you, Doogie Howser, M.D.
WIKIPEDIA! Best site on the Web, next to this one of course. I was nearly in tears the other day, thinking about how much I missed these guys. I thought to lessen my sadness by doing a "where are they now" sort of thing. HOLY bleepING bleep CRACKERS! They're still in buisness! Good stuff.

Cool!
My brother stubled onto this site somehow. We're both big MST3K fans. I was surprised since I saw no mention of it on Mike Nelson's website. But he sent me the link without telling me what it was. It was like an early christmas present when the Rifftrax page appeared. Now it's time to spread the word to more displaced MST3K fans, who've been wandering in the desert for the last 8 years.
I found out about it while browsing through satellitenews
I read Death Rat, then went on Mike's website, and lucky me, I found - this.
I was excited, then scared, then confused, then excited again, then really excited, then ooooo, then it was boring and I turned it off.
I heard about rifftrax at HeroesCon in Charlotte NC a few weeks ago. A fellow Mistie and I were chatting and he told me about the site...needless to say...I was hooked.
I was in class and my classmate and I were talking about the good ole days of MST3k and he told me about Rifftrax! I was glad to see that MJ and KM were riffting new and old movies that need it! I was able to watch Starwars Ep1 again without being bored! javascript:void(0);
Cheesy
I was looking up Mike Nelson on Wikipedia, and was linked to Rifftrax. Great little site.
I first learned about Rifftrax while searching for MST information whilst on a late night surfing session. This was at the time when most of the riffs were soloed by Mike, but Kevin, Bill and other guests were soon to appear. It's wonderful to continue the MST tradition, and I'm so happy there's a way this can happen without Mike getting sued. I imagine any disgruntled movie studios wouldn't bother making a stink since Rifftrax sells and rents the movies as it makes fun of them. Genius!
Waiting for the newest trax and executing surgically-precise visits to the local video store have now become my weekly rituals. Now my heating bill is the lowest it's been in years and the bathroom tile shines like never before. :D And I owe it all to Rifftrax!
I've been away for a while, and need to catch up on my duties, so, here goes...

Well i heard about Rifftrax on some MST Website on google... And i was like... o.o ----- O.o ------ o.O ------- O.O!!!!!... Then i freaked out!... And I'm like "YAY! OMG ITS NOT OVER!!!" then i said "Huzzah! FOR TOM SERVO AND MIKE!"... Then i got stuck in a mystical world of over sized signatures and funniness that made me all frhappy! = Forum. Then i actually got to speak with the almighty Michael J. Nelson!!! On myspace.... I was like... No way I'm talking to MIKE!!!!! Then i freaked out again and said to myself... "WOOT I'M TALKING TO MIKE HUZZAH!!!"... So yeah thats the story and all.
I read the transcript (http://www.teevee.org/archive/weblog/2006/10/12/150746.html) from a podcast interview with Mike at teevee.org. That was quite a while ago, but I was thrilled! The thought of no more MST3K-style fun ever again depressed me far more than it should have.
Well, I actually heard of it from netflix.
I've netflix had it for almost a year, and had heard Battlefield Earth was one of the worst movies ever. So I invited a bunch of friends over for our own little MST3K party. After watching it, I remember thinking "they need to bring back MST3K JUST for this movie."
lo and behold, i find a comment on netflix's Battlefield Earth's "user comments" about rifftrax.com...
Whoever she is, I'd like to give her a great big HUG!!!
I haven't downloaded any trax yet, but since I have quite a few of those movies in my library I'll definitely be back ;D

I got the link to Rifftrax at Lightfighter Tactical Forum. (http://lightfighter.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9036044533/m/5651024133)
I recognized the familiar face of Mike J. Nelson on an event flyer in my monthly news letter from Stone Brewing co.
The event was a late night screening of Battlefield Earth, Rifftrax style, outdoors in the garden of the brewery itself.
Since I only live about 30 miles from the brewery, I had no choice but to attend the event. It was great to see Mike in person and enjoy the work of Rifftrax. Oh yea, and the work of Stone Brewery too!
What I like to call some good times. Hope this event will be repeated. Soon.
My daughter introduced me to this site. She's got good taste. 8)
A good friend of mine showed me the site about a year ago when I was moaning Mystery Science Theater not being around anymore. I have to say I was not let down in the least.
I got a call in the middle of the night..it was the police..they said my mom was trapped in between a truck and a tree..they said she didn't have long to live..I drove down there in my ford F-350 and walked up to my mother..
mom?..I said..
Stan?..Stan is that you?..
It's Mike mom..
oh yeah..sorry..
Is it the mustache mom?..
yeah..can I call you Stan?
Sure mom..
Stan?
I'm here mom..
tell your dad to drink a lot..it's okay to get drunk..
I will mom..
Tell your sister to stop having kids..she's getting a little fat..
Okay.. .. ..okay..
Tell your brother.. .. ..
Yeah mom?..
Tell your brother to stop smoking pot and get a job.. .. ..that f-ing hippy loser..
I will..
And tell Mike.. .. ..
Yes..yes?..
Tell Mike to go to rifftrax.com uuuuugghghh..
yeah..i found out at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0625621/
I heard about Rifftrax from Attack of the Show on G4TV.
I went to a friends home and he showed me The Matrix Rifftrax and asked if these were the Science guys I'm always talking about.
I did some investigating and eventually found this place.
My sister's fiancee is a member of the forum. (raven166) I liked MST3K while it was on and he said I should check Rifftrax out. I've only seen The Matrix and Casino Royale thus far and they were absolutely awesome.
I received one of those "People who liked blah blah blah also ordered blah" from Amazon.com. I was surprised that the "blah" was a new DVD by Mike and the guys. A quick trip to the internet quickly brought up RiffTrax. I was AMAZED!! I thought I would never, ever hear them again. MST 3000 was, simply put, the best TV show ever, and now it lives again through the magic of RiffTrax. I immediately downloaded "Independence Day", the worst science fiction movie in the history of science fiction movies and can't wait to rent the DVD (and play the RiffTrax track) to hear what the guys have to say. My friends and I have had a long time to blast this movie, but of course we are not professionals. I am so excited about finding out about RiffTrax, I am practically peeing my pants.
A pixie poisoned by chimichanga, and when I awoke I was logged into Rifftrax.com. True story.
i found it via youtube, i was watching an MST and it was on the related videos link.. I was very thrilled. That was a while ago, but I decided to post.
I found RiffTrax on Wikipedia. I can't even rememebr what I was looking up...but, I ended up on the Wiki page for "Worst Films Ever", and it had a link here.
Is there a particular forum devoted to requests for films not already in the catalog???
yes

Thanks so much!!
Was googling around for MST3K and found mst3kinfo.com, which had a blurb about rifftrax. Just bought my first one, and I'm hooked. And so on. :)

I actually heard about Rifftrax through www.dapcentral.org (Thanks Tarantulas!) but what I really want to know is how all the new people (and older ones) that are coming in and saying hello here found out about rifftrax.
So please share your story!
My best friend has almost every MST3K on vhs. He called me raving. I was hooked.
Awesome! Welcome to the forum! (And welcome to your friend as well.)
Glad you could join us!
WOW! Usul!!
From DUNE?!
Welcome!!!
I just ran across the info in the latest issue of Toyfare. At last, I can enjoy professionals mocking movies I was forced to mock on my own.
I remembered a couple months ago something my roommate told me about the Film Crew. I went to mst3kinfo.com to see if it had any release info and so forth, and saw the links to both Film Crew and here. I've been blissfully immersed in riffing ever since.
I discovered this board through one of my Invision Free boards...one that has absolutely no members as yet. I made the mistake of calling it Eragon Fleet, and that ad popped up on top of the board. Well, perhaps it was no error... :P
 I am so excited! I'm at work now so I can't start the fun but what a great idea! Totally awesome! I saw the sample from the trek movie, Oh My God! I gotta get home and buy every single one of these! And the podcasts! Is it Christmas? Feels like it is!
Ahh to be new again and have everything to look forward to for the first time! Welcome. ;D
I heard about it on myspace.
I think I was looking at the wikipedia entry for MST3K and there was a link to the Rifftrax page. And I was glad to see Mike, Tom, and Crow... I mean, Kevin and Bill! ... at it again... it was clearly too much fun for you guys to give up after only 10 years. I'm sorry to say I haven't gotten around to purchasing any, I have to see what movies I have in my collection that I can get rifftrax for. I know I have all three of the star wars prequels and 300... so those will probably be among the first. I know the Rifftrax FAQ shows me that this isn't MST3K 2.0, but I like to think of it as the "spiritual sequel"
*looks right, then looks left*, well, I suppose the others will be by soon to harass, er greet you (especially platypus) For the time being though maybe I can give you some things that will make your stay here a bit more ...interesting yeah, that's it... I heard about it on the MSTinfo website. I'm always on the lookout for the goings on of the geniuses behind the genre, so I was slightly more than pleasantly surprised to find Rifftrax.

SomethingAwful forums.
I heard about it by word of mouth. My freind Adam (who's been watching MST3K for years) told me about it. I like these much more than MST3K because it seems to be funnier when they make fun of movies I like. Although, apparently, they don't.
Good to see people showing up just from people talking. I've been telling most everyone I know around here about it. Always great when you describe it and they get instantly excited, you can always spot the old MSTies who are just figuring out their years of riffing withdrawal might be over.
Yeah, I've been showing my friends and even the ones who didn't like MST3K like Rifftrax. I think the fact that they're riffing popular movies appeals to a MUCH wider fan base.
I heard about it on the MaximumPC Podcast, they're all big MST3K fans, as am I (one more rhino set and I'll have every single episode of MST3K except the first 3 public access ones that nobody has).

My jealousy knows no bounds. I just have the Rhino releases and a tape of Jack Frost my old roommate forgot about when we moved.
^
If you've got a decent internet speed and some hard drive space, then you can download 'em all from various sites.
Usually not big on downloading stuff like that, but I buy all the Rhino releases as the come out one way or another, so they'll get my money eventually. Guess it's time for me to start looking. ;D

I would send it CERTIFIED mail. Registered mail is for important insured valuables that you need to have signed for at every change of hand.
CERTIFIED mail is for delivery where a signature is required at delivery for legal purposes.
Ahh, thank you for the clarification. Think you might be available as additional legal council on this case?

While looking at Mike Nelson's article on wikipedia, I noticed rifftrax listed among his current projects. I told my roommate about it, and since we're massive MST3K nerds he immediately found this site and DLed Roadhouse. After we laughed ourselves to tears watching it, he then DLed a bunch of other riffttracks. You can list us among your pleased and loyal customers. I'm here to stay dammit!
I think its kinda funny that you had a copy of Roadhouse just lying around. :D Welcome to the fold.
Hello.
Hello!
Hello?
I found out about it when it was mentioned on the site Dread Central, in an artical about their Splattrax. It's similar, they don't go out of their way to do riffs as much, but the one for "House of the Dead" is great!
GMail ad. I don't know how long you've been using them, but if a long time, I'm wondering why I only saw it recently!
I used to watch MST3K back when it was on Saturday mornings and my brother is a big fan. Once Hebs entered the picture permanently almost four years ago (we were friends before that), MST3K became a staple on our studio TV-- nice way to pass the time while you're working.
She stumbled on the site searching for info on Mike Nelson-- and that led me to check it out as well.
Was wandering around aimlessly...or looking for some info about "Mile High Meringue" and wound up here.
I have know about this site for quite (heard about first I believe from forrestcrow.proboards) awhile I just am getting my lazy butt to finally register
I was purchasing an MST3K box set from Amazon and they recommended The Film Crew (At the time they had not been released yet but available for preorder) I preordered all 4 and I went to the Folm Crew website and found myself over here. Then I found myself getting every Rifftrax for every movie I had. Then it was to the pawn shops to pick up classics like Crossroads and Troll2.

They still have pawn shops? Where do you live, the 70s?
We still have pawn shops here. Where are you from? The 23rd century on Utopian Earth where poverty and hunger have been eliminated? ;D
Pawn shops get a bad rap, Pawn America is one of the better places to get used DVDs in my area.
If you need a vehicle-mounted high-caliber machine gun right away, where do you go? Yes a pawn shop. Grand Island, NE.
Man, I have been thrown out of pawn shops. They get all indignant when you ask them to hit the secret button that opens up the hidden wall to reveal the fully automatic weapons and such. No sense of humor that lot.
As is posted in my "Hello" post, I heard about rifftrax just days ago when I added Weird Al to my myspace page and noticed a bulletin titled "Rifftrax". This was the bulletin,
QuoteI recently joined MST3K's Mike Nelson on a Rifftrax of "Jurassic Park"... and it's now available at their web site!
Well I instantly recognized MST3k, and I knew the deal was sealed when I saw the name of none other than Mike Nelson. I checked out the site and here I am.
btw, I swore off message boards for anything but tech support long ago, but I cant imagine a group of MST3k lovers being the average whiny, annoying and needy tards that frequent most of them. So I decided to sign up and say hi, and I must say I'm extremely impressed.
Oh, no. You have it all wrong. We're just a new group of whiny needy tards there to annoy you. ;D
Welcome!

I need you to love me!! Please!!!!
I found about Rifftrax from the Incognito Cinema Warriors XP MySpace. I used to always watch Mystery Science with my frat-mates and I was blown away when I found them. They had a link to a thread on here and I find the big-faced guy that always cracked me up on TV is doing this! I got the Jurassic Park Rifftrack today but haven't listened yet. Is it good?
Oh Yeah! With Weird Al? It's one of The Best!!
i was excited to find rifftrax.... now my brother-in-law and i can fill the mst3k shaped hole in our hearts.
Welcome friend. Notice those candy hearts in front of you in that bowl? Notice me coming up from behind you while you are eating those candy hearts from that bowl? Now, notice that you are behind the middle school? Good. Poof! You're pregnant!
:D :D :D
Eeeeasy there Tiger...
I think ebaums bounced me over, but once I saw what you guys were about I signed up and look forward to getting into some of the local goings-on. I was in on MST3K when it first started years ago at 1000 on the dish and loved it. That episode with the block-head super hero trucker loaded with nitro and his crusty buddy, man...
Then the plot trasforms into stock car racing somehow...
My fave. I taped it and still toss it in every once in awhile...
Gotto work on my profile, sig etc.
MST3Kinfo.com. Great that movies like the Star Wars prequels, which really need the MST3K treatment, can get it now.
I heard you guys on the podcast SciFi Surplus.
I almost drove my car into the ditch when I heard that you guys were still riffing movies. I enjoyed watching the MST3000 show, although It was hard to explains the concept to my mother. ( She's Deaf) You know how hard it is to sign that show??? My fingers locked up for days. But it would be nice if the MST3000 could be captions, and have the riffing comments in a different caption color. I know my mom and other hearing impaired would enjoy your show. (Just think...Your fan base could triple. $$$$) Anyway...glad you're still in the Riffing Business...keep it up.

Got here from the banner ad posted on the Agony Booth (great site, by the way.). A BIG fan of the MST from way back (favs Warrior of the Lost World and Pod People) and have a bunch of Mike's books. Thrilled to be here.
I heard about Rifftrax through my 13 year old sister... she heard about it through www.weirdal.com (because we are both die hard weird al fans).
You Guys found me O.o scary lmao and i liked it so thats y I'm hear. So thats my story what's your's ?
Honestly I can't remember the first place/time I heard about RiffTrax. I run an MST3k fanspace profile on MySpace.com (www.myspace.com/mystery_science_theater3k) and I've known about RiffTrax for a number of years but was only recently able to start purchasing them (reason: I didn't have a credit card until recently). I'm pretty sure I heard about it from an MST3k web site.
Great job/idea on the RiffTrax guys! Very inventive way of figuring out how to riff on newer blockbuster films without having to spend obnoxious amounts of money for the copyright laws and all.
In the last 3 weeks I've been a member I have been hooked, buying a RiffTrax or 3 practically every single night. I've almost seen/heard all of them and I'm starting to wonder how bad the withdrawals will be when I have to chomp at the bit waiting for the new one to be released.

It is quite a switch I can tell you. I tried to avoid it by slowing down before I got them all. There are a few here and there I haven't picked up yet, so if there's a long stretch without a new one, I can keep my eyes open for the appropriate dvds while I'm out of the house. About to watch the Halloween riff for the first time in fact.
I honestly don't remember. I voted for Something Awful, anyway since I post there.
Found a Battlefield Earth torrent as I sailed the perilous tubes of the internets that had a very peculiar description: commentary by Mike Nelson. Very skeptic, I proceeded to download, gasp in awed joy, laugh my butt off, and purchase the Riff after jubilantly informing my family (we're all big MST3K fans) with the sort of passion reserved for the Second Coming.
It was pretty awesome.

The same sort of thing happened to me. I was just cruising the net one day and heard that Mike and the guys were putting out riffs again and I had to come buy and see for myself. 3 weeks later I have a dozen rifftrax in my account and am constantly looking around for good prices on the DVDs of the rifftrax I don't have.
My brother in-law called and told me about rifftrax, he had heard about it on the radio i think. Lucky too, my MST3K tapes I had recorded from TV were wearing out. Rifftrax has so many movies now, I only bring out the tapes when I'm feeling nostalgic. Huge thanks to Mike, Kevin and Bill the world wouldn't be nearly as funny without them.
I came home one day, and my roommate was watching Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and I heard "The Silver Surfer is the smoke monster from Lost!...If in 5 years the real explanation isn't that lame, I'll buy you a beer". I then proceeded to ask questions, and soon I was downloading like a fiend. What a great way to expand on the MST3K genre. I had always said the show would benefit from riffing big-budget movies, as well as the little ones.
I clicked on a banner ad (the first time ever!) while on StreamingSoundtracks.com.
Is today my birthday?! Because I have been wishing for new stuff from you guys ever since MST3K went off the air! Not only do I get new commentaries, but with recent movies, too! Thank you! You're all geniuses!
I honestly can't remember where I first heard about Rifftrax, but I've been a MST3k fan since about 1992, so I guess it was only a matter of time!
Me I found riftrax through an ad on a web comic. Think it was Something Positive, not sure though. Any ways I've been lurking on the forums ever since till I guess right now.
My friend called me a couple nights ago, said he'd got something really cool for me. He said it was better than a pony. He was so right. The emoticons offered for use do not have big enough grins to accurately portray the sheer joy of finding this. And good it happened when it did, because I just got a Mac, but hadn't yet got rid of my PC - which henceforth shall be known as the Rifftrax Player Deluxe.
Hmm I don't know, I mean a pony would be pretty cool too....
Better yet if it was a pony that was good at making fun of movies.
MST3Kinfo.com
Back when RT first started.
I started writing my own riffs for a tv show called Supernatural as a joke and there was a banner ad on my livejournal page for the site. I clicked on it and got addicted. I had watched MST3K with my Dad back when it was on Scifi and thanks to youtube I've rediscovered my love for the show.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I first saw it on mst3kinfo.com. My reaction? "Mike Nelson? Riffing on major Hollywood movies? Yes, please."
I looked up Mike Nelson one day to see what he was doing, and I found out about RiffTrax.
you know....i have no idea how i discovered Rifftrax.
none.
which is sad, because it was only like a year ago.
i must have seen it mentioned in a message board somewhere, possibly IMDB.
My Friend found it one day and i saved it to my bookmarks. Me and him loved MST3k and was sad when it was gone. THIS IS AWESOME THAT THIS WAS MADE!!
I actually found this through some site called "Movie a minute" or something similar to that where this guy gives a one or two line synopsis of any movie.
He had an ad with Mike's smiling face and I was so thrilled to come across this! I had no idea this site has been around for a year or two now.
Huge Mst3k fan from way back when. Still have the VHS copies that I would record off the tv...I still pop them in on a lazy sunday afternoon to get a good laugh (or 2 or 3 or dozen) before starting the work week.
Keep it up fellas!

I first heard about RiffTrax through MST3Kinfo when the site opened, but I refused to try it because I thought the sample of Star Trek Generations was lame and I didn't think it would be worth listening to them make fun of movies I actually already liked.
Then recently I found out about the RiffTrax blog through the Cinematic Titanic forum, started following the blog, and then was tempted to try RiffTrax because of Bill Corbett's mock fight with Mary Jo Pehl. And because they were doing The X Files, which was a movie I know I saw in the theater but which I couldn't remember much of, so it therefore wasn't as good as I remembered. The RiffTrax for X Files won me over, and now I'm a fan of RiffTrax as much as for Cinematic Titanic.
I found a RiffTrax teaser clip on YouTube while watching random MST3k stuff, and poof! Frankly, I'm ashamed and horrified that it took me so long to find it in the first place. Except for finding it on YouTube first, that sounds very very familiar.
I heard about it through digg.com
I saw an ad for the upcoming show at the Balboa Theater here in San Diego in the Reader and it touched me in my warm spot that I have always had for MST3K and was excited to find out about it.

I found out about Rifftrax 10-12 months ago. I know, I'm a Johhny-come-lately. I'm a huge MST3K fan, and when I first found out about Rifftrax I nearly SH*T myself. I've downloaded all the shorts, and about 10-12 full movie trax. I need to get with it and watch more!
I'm another one that wants a Rifftrax of Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness. I've read a few of people post that suggestion, and I wholeheartedly agree.
Bruce Campbell MUST be a guest riffer on that trax.
The movie's already intentionally funny though. Might as well riff The Blues Brothers.

True enough. I'm just daydreaming about my perfect fanboy combination. Like MST3K and Futurama together, or MST3K and Cheap Seats together.

I saw the Star Wars rifftrax advertisement banner on youtube. Clicked on it, watched some demos, and got hooked.
Howdy folks, I discovered Rifftrax at the Stone Brewery web site a month or two ago. I saw that they were playing "Jurassic Park" riffed by two entertainment gods at the brewery that week, and I immediately headed to Rifftrax.com. I've been hooked ever since. ;D

Another fan pulled in by the power of Al. Good times. Welcome.
I, like many others before me, heard about Rifftrax through the MST discussion board.
I heard about it in the fall or summer of 2006, not long after it started. I remember visiting the site before Kevin or Bill had done guest riff. I didn't buy a riff until Nov. of that year when I signed up for Blockbuster online. I bought Cocktail, X-Men, Halloween and Star Wars Ep. 1 on the same day.
A few weeks later I had a stroke and couldn't work for a month. I bought seven riffs in one day which I think caught me up to that point. I've been pretty much caught up ever since, sometimes falling 3-4 behind.
I discovered while looking through various trailers to movies on Youtube.
To be specific, the Cloverfield trailer, now that I think back. The parody poster of that same movie Rifftrax made was used as advertisement of this site which appeared next to the video.
Oddly enough, I heard about Rifftrax through a friend on the Clawcast IRC channel, when we were talking about 'awful furries'. He brought up the clip from Saw 3, and after viewing it, I spent several hours perusing the site, and the fact that Mr. Nelson was involved pretty much sealed the deal. I also like the idea of being able to do my own riffs very much. Hopefully ya'll can expect to see some from me very soon.:3
Hey all! Well, I can't really remember how I found the site exactly. I was curious what the guys were up to, about a year and a half ago, I guess, and googled their names, or maybe just Mike's name at first, and voila! Needless to say I was thrilled and I've been a Rifftrax fan ever since. I'm planning to finish off Indy 4 tonight, it's great.
Hey! I heard about rifftrax through the MST Info site. I've been here several times but this is my first time on the board. It's so fantastic to see that, between Rifftrax and Cinamatic Titantic, Mike, Joel, and the 'bots are all back making fun of crazy movies :highfive:.
I don't really remember - it was either the MST3K community on LiveJournal, or MST3Kinfo, but it was probably on the same day Rifftrax was announced.
MST3Kinfo. Good site, and well maintained.
Wikipedia. I think I was reading its MST3K entry... for some reason. I already know plenty about the show.
Kinda dorky, but I found out about something I've enjoyed very much since.
I saw the every-other-chapter uploads of Daredevil and T3 on youtube while looking for mst3k episodes. Those are the best advertising rifftrax could have ever hoped for, they let you see a substantial chunk so you can really tell if this stuff is worth paying for.
They should let a little more leak out here and there instead of clamping down and getting the videos removed within minutes whenever somebody posts something. If it wasn't for those unauthorized uploads I never would have bought anything.
The huge Superbowl ad.
The prime-time promotional special.
The flyers distributed all over town.
The blimp.
The two weeks I spent at area code Rifftrax camp.
I first heard of RiffTrax on SomethingAwful.com (I'm not a member of that website, but I do read some of their forum threads and articles). From there, I found out it was on YouTube, and then I joined this forum so I could be a part of iRiffs (I myself am working on a RiffTrax style reworking of movies called "remixes" [I have some up on YouTube--go see them if you can]).
So that's how I came to be here. My name is LadyRemix. On YouTube, I'm FirstClassHeel.
I heard about rifftrax by searching for MST3Ks on youtube and finding a few samples of rifftrax. Suddenly I heard Mike Nelson's voice riffing real movies--and the bots, too! I was so happy. So you guys should really add "youtube" to that poll.

The Heavens did open and a chorus of angels did herald the coming of the Rifftrax. That's how I found out about it.
I remember hearing about it a while ago and seeing multiple YouTube samples online so I finally decided to check out the site and I did, got a few Riffs and then I heard that the guys were coming and doing a live show for Plan 9 from Outer Space. I went out and watched the show, thought it was brilliant and I've been getting more and more since.

I am a huge MST3K fan and ended up looking up MST3K on wikipedia and found out about Rifftrax and all the other offshoots of the old show. I also watched a couple clips on youtube
A friend of mine shot me an email when he first heard the rumblings, and I was super excited, but it was an impossibility for me at the time as I was living in the middle of nowhere on the world's crappiest dial up connection, i.e. on a good day I'd hit 28Kbps!

You're just Jealous :D :D
I learned about RiffTrax from the demon elves who live in my head, constantly whispering insidious, dark thing...
Actually, I think I learned of it from Satellite News many moons ago. I'm a longtime fan of Mystery Science and was overjoyed to discover this new project from former Brains.
Um, by the way, I guess I'm sort of new on the forum. Howdy! Don't hit.
How did you hear about or find Rifftrax?!?
ummm...the internet...duh?
good evening
Roger here in Chicagoland
I heard of both Riff Trax AND Cinematic Titanic from the talented Aaron Yonda over at Chad Vader and Blame Society Productions
after I crushed and dislocated my left shoulder and had a prosthetic put in on 5 Feb of this year those nice people sent me this get well video from CHAD himself

I actually googled MST3K because I was tired of watching the same ones I owned over and over again. I thought I could watch some streaming oldies but goodies on the web. I came across Dreadcentral.com's interview with Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett talking mostly about Film Crew. I was like, "What!?? I need to look on the web more often! How did I miss NEW shows from with these folks!??" Then they talked about doing new movies with Mike on this website, and here I am! I can't wait to see Batman & Robin and other horrible new movies riffed by the crew. ;)
Hi, Jenadara. While you were at Dreadcentral, did you check out their Splattrax of House of the Dead? I thought it was pretty good. Not quite like a real Rifftrax, but still funny.

Heh, I found out about Rifftrax because of a brewery (Stone Brewery was showing Rifftrax Jurassic Park, and announced it on their web site) . Not the worst way to find out, I guess. ;D
anais got me hooked on rifftrax forums and i am still cursing her to this day ;)
I don't remember exactly what site directed me to RiffTrax.com. I was probably looking for good audio commentaries where I probably discovered Mike Nelson's stuff mentioned (Plan 9, Little Shop, etc.). Trying to find more, I think I started looking for interviews to see what else he'd been up to which ultimately sent me to RiffTrax.com. I remember the only titles available were "Roadhouse" and "Fifth Element." "X-Men" and "Star Trek V" were released shortly after.

Wow. That's a very strong possibility. I do recall reading that. And it'd probably be around that time too. I couldn't be 100% certain. I mean, how many of your random internet perusals do you remember (esp ones from 3 years ago), right? I consider myself lucky enough to remember the original homepage with only 2 RiffTrax.

I will consider that a "definitely maybe", and (tentatively) pat myself on the back for (possibly) directing one more person to the glory of RiffTrax. I'm hoping I'll be awarded a commemorative pin or something at some point.

Thanks a bunches! LMAO!!!
I heard of rifftrax from my group of friends. we're all MST3K geeks, so when one of us heard of rifftrax, everyone knew, and we were quite happy. :highfive:
I'm a huge MST3K geek, and after one of my weekly bad movie nights a friend of mine and I were watching some random stuff on youtube and I saw an ad... and well I love that the MST3Kers are still at it... it makes me smile.
Something Awful, or should I say one of it's spin off forums.
>:D
I'm an old fan of MST3K, but when it finished, I wasn't aware that there was anything else. :(
I was watching MST3K episodes on YouTube 2 weeks ago when I noticed a link to a Riff Trax Spiderman (I think it was 3?) clip. Curious, I clicked it. I'm so glad I did! Not only was it really funny, but it also led me here! ;D
I was watching Chad Vader on youtube when I spontaneously shat myself upon seeing the episode 5 rifftrax ad. About a year ago I introduced my fiancee to MST3K and upon finishing ten seasons plus the ktma one we were pretty down about there not being anymore. So when I found out about the site and the fact it has been around since 2006 I felt like such an ass. I could have been enjoying rifftrax for so much longer.
Read about it on someone's blog. They were talking about the movie, "Twilight" and linked RiffTrax! I thought, "What a fricken rip off from MST3K!"
So I had to come over and check it out only to find out, it's the same guys.
Been watching MST3K since I was a wee lass, late night on the t.v. Had to sneak down to the basement family room and keep the volume low while stifling giggles in to a pillow. Used to have extensive library on videos for the VCR, still working on building up DVD library. As someone else said, didn't know there was anything new until now. I see I'm at least 2.5 years behind. I'm trendy like that.
hello to all

I read about it on the MST3K Wikipedia page. I don't care what anyone says, Wikipedia's my favorite website.
Agree, Wikipedia freakin rules.
i disagree...wikipedia does indeed rule
I found RiffTrax a while ago, by accident, while mindlessly moping around the Internet looking for a sign of life from MST3K. I am happy to say that I stumbled right across a webcast, and sat, giggling for joy in my chair, and then happily spent all my money on RiffTrax gift cards for everyone I know.
I was just googling Mike Nelson's name for totally not obsessive stalker-like fan reasons, and lo! New material! He tried to outrun me, but on the internet there's nowhere to hide.
I was raised on MST3K and was digging around on wiki while trying to get my girlfriend into the show (a success) and found the rifftrax link. Much bliss ensued, it felt like being a kid again!
I found out from Netflix! Some of the DVDs are available through Netflix and I was looking for MST3K movies when some RiffTrax movies showed up. I was really excited to see that the MST3K guys are still at it! I was/am a huge fan of MST3K but I didn't know that there was even a website still out there for fans. I guess I thought it was just gone except for DVDs and my memories. I'm thrilled by the new source of riffed movies and when I found out from my sister about the live Plan 9 event, we got tickets asap. It was great! ;D
Hello! I am surelaffsalot, and this is my first post to your forum. I have to say my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed last night's special! Thanks to all involved!!
We have been fans since MST 3000. I ran across information about RiffTrax from another forum when I brought up my nostalgia for MST 3000. I was happy to find other people like me who loved it as much as I do. I was even happier to find out that my love for it can live on with RiffTrax! I look forward to exploring RiffTrax more and becoming more involved. I am from the Midwest, but when I went to put my little dot on the map, it said both my email addresses were already being used, so if you are pretending to be me, stop spamming me, :spammer: ::)
Have a great day!
Well, perhaps we got off on the wrong foot. I was really not trying to sound like a jerk here, just wondering why everywhere I go lately, my husband's and my separate emails have been hijacked. This one says that 2 of mine have been here somewhere. Maybe I came off a bit bold, but that was what the smilies were for, to soften it, or so I thought. So I could say some smart remark regarding what you said, however I was not looking for a fight. If you would like to escalate it into one, I did not have that on my adjenda for my first day here.
Just be forewarned. Apparently there is a lot of identity theft happening as of late. I thought I would make it known so everyone could be more prepared so the same doesn't happen to them.
This is the Rifftrax forum. People are always looking for a joke... it wasn't directed at you, merely used your situation as a punchline set up. Anyway welcome to the fold surelaffsalot
Discovered it on the Usenet. Now I'll buy the ones I want ... always happy to support the guys!
None of the above. I read about it on MST3K's Wikipedia page.
IMDB!
My most beloved star.
Frodo not included.
I read an interview with Kevin Murphy at quickstopentertainment.com and Riff Trax was mentioned. Actually, I didn't read the interview with Kevin Murphy. What I mean is.....I didn't want to give the impression that we read the interview together. I've never even met Kevin Murphy let alone read anything with him. I'm not even sure how that would work. I suppose we could alternate paragraphs. It just seems like more trouble than it's worth, you know?
Ken Plume interviewed Kevin Murphy and I read the interview alone. I didn't check out Riff Trax right away but made a mental note to do so in the future. While waiting for the technological advances that would make time travel possible, I had completely forgotten about Riff Trax. But a recent Google search for Debbie Gibson's influence on early Sumerian Architecture yielded a link to the Riff Trax web site. I decided that now was the time to investigate. And the rest is history.......assuming you're reading this from the future.
my husbands actually riffs things he sees but he also got me hooked it. :)
i can't remember for sure, but it was probably a pre-sync that came up back when i was looking for mst3k episodes on torrent sites.
Watched MST3K when it was shown in the UK on the Sci Fi channel, had a nostalgia buzz recently and grabbed a few of the episodes floating around on the internet and at some point came across the Rifftrax name.

Hey all.
I'm a long time fan of Mike from the early years of MST3K.
I registered so I can post a request for the guys to RIFF on a movie I worked on a few years back...
which was?
I've known about Rifftrax for some time, but I was reluctant to become a part of it because they seemed to do more recent movies, most of which I really have no interest in watching. I thought that in order to enjoy the experience, you had to own (or buy) the movies along with the riffing audio. But I started noticing DVDs available on Amazon, and I bought the Best Of Shorts Volumes 1 & 2 and Missile to the Moon, and I ended up enjoying them immensely. So I've set up an account, and now going through the library I've noticed a couple of movies that I already own have been riffed, so I'm determined to figure out how to download and coordinate the riffing with the movie track.

Ok i am still not sure what is wrong with that post. I found rifftrax while searching for information about The film crew. It took me 9 hours to download my first rifftrack(star Wars episode one). It then took me 45 minutes to figure out how to sync it. After all that I was hooked.
The first Rifftrax I ever watched was Jurassic Park. I had been a big MST3K fan since middle school, but had no idea about Rifftrax until my brother introduced me to them. Now I can't get enough.
When I started dating my husband, at some point during the relationship he whipped out the rifftrax. I'd only seen MST3K maybe a few times and it was not terribly funny, when I'd watched it, or maybe I didn't get the concept much.
anyway, he popped in, i think Roadhouse. that was AWFUL. But the riff made it that much bearable to watch. :D and now we are married. perhaps rifftrax contributed in some small way to us getting married, haha!
We went to the satellite broadcast of the Glenn Beck Christmas show and while we waited for it to start we saw an ad for the Rifftrax Christmas show. Once we realized that Rifftrax was the MST3K people, we bought tickets for the broadcast and found the website.
A good friend of mine saw the Jurassic Park RiffTrax and he was acting out the scenes while narrating the RiffTrax and he explained to me about how it was by the guys who did MST3K and I flipped!

Yeah, what a Nice Guy Keath is :)
Discovered MST3K about 10 years ago and started watching that...but since I mostly saw all the Mike Nelson hosted shows, wanted more of him, Bill and Kevin. Watched all the Film Crew Movies, but that wasn't enough, so was looking on youtube or something and found Rifftrax. The rest be history.

'Scuse me while I riff this out.
attack of the show or was it the scereen savers... I think there might have been an interwview but I don't remember it was so long asgo....
Originally I saw adverts for it on SA, and I started following the sites Twitter a few months ago.
Found samples on You Tube for Twilight (I think) but it was really funny whatever it was!!! ;D
One of my friends at work told me about it. She knew I'd been a MST3K fan, and I was in the middle of reading Kevin's "A Year at the Movies." She told me about the Rifftrax for Twilight. I went home and downloaded it and laughed myself sick.
I heard about it over at Satellite News, but I have to confess that I didn't visit the site all that often. Because of that I, I found RiffTrax later than I would have hoped (but quite a while ago, though I'm just really getting into the forums now). Better late than never, though. I love the new format, the new movies, and if I can say so without sparking a huge debate, the combo of Mike, Bill, and Kevin was always my favorite on MST3K. There's even something satisfying about re-authoring the DVD's, but that might just be because of how much I enjoy the end product.
Let's see...I heard about it from youtube. At the time, I was browsing old MST3k clips. I definitely got into MST3k in the later years, when it was already gone and just being re-aired on Sci-Fi, so youtube can be blamed almost exclusively for my obsession. But, I digress. I saw a Rifftrax clip show up on the list and decided to humor it, thinking it was some Mistie trying to do their MST3k. As soon as I heard Mike crack a joke, google brought me here.
Best stumble ever :D
I first hear about Rifftrax a bit over a year ago from the MST3k website. I wanted to try it, but I don't have a computer at home, and didn't have an ipod at the time.
When Shorts Vol. 1 came out on DVD, I got that one...and loved it. I've got all the other DVDs since (wish they could realease more). Then when I got my ipod I started downloading. Have only downloaded three so far.
I accidentaly clicked a banner (Probabbly a google add) on www.trekmovie.com years ago, which led me to the MST3K website, which then played a short video which made me fall in love with the concept.
Investigating on Wikipedia, I found about Cinematic Titanic, The film Crew and Riftrax.
I heard about it at SD Comic Con 2007 when the guys were there promoting their Film Crew DVDs. The next year they did a live show during con, riffing Plan 9 and that sold me. Next thing you know I'm downloading The Empire Strikes Back and never looked back.
i looked for a movie forum on google :)
I was jonzing for some MST a few months ago and decided to look up some clips on YouTube. I eventually came across the "Best of Twilight" Rifftrax video. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. After squealing with joy, I checked out a few other "best of" clips and then finally checked out this site. I've been downloading, donating and syncing my own riffs ever since :)

My super amazing, wonderful, handsome and brilliant fiance got me watching MST3K on DVD. I love it. I love everything about it. I like that the spirit of fun is kept alive by rifftrax and the people posting on these forums.

Well, I remember I introduced my friend to MST3K years ago... then he showed me Film Crew... Then I think we both somehow heard about Rifftrax. I don't really know how. I think word of mouth is probably how most people hear it.
My lil sis got me 2 dvds for christmass. Plus i've been an mst3k fan since it aired and watched past episodes sometimes and have most of the volumes from mst3k.
I guess I'm in "other." I was a big fan of MST3k starting right before Mike took over. Then my brother asks me a couple of years ago if I'd heard any Rifftrax yet and started to play the Matrix riff for me. So, here I am.
I guess I need to answer this one.
A little after I learned of Wiki, I was jumping around it reading up on movies. And while reading about 5th element it said something about getting riffed. But at the time I still had dialup. But the day after I got DSL, I went here.
My first exposure to Rifftrax is snippets on YouTube'
but my full exposure to them is their cinema simulcasts
My first Rifftrax Live! cinema simulcast is the Encore of "Plan 9 From Outer Space"
My Brother and I go to these simulcasts due to we love MST3k
I'd been a Mistie for many years, but it was my little brother who introduced me to RiffTrax. I think the first one we watched was Troll 2.
So, a couple of months ago, I created a facebook page (to make my ex angry by packing my friends list with attractive women that I don't actually know... hehe, but I digress). I decided to see if there was an MST3K fan page on facebook (there is, it needs work) and I clicked on the link for Mike's name, because I kinda wondered what he was up to these days.
There at the bottom it said that he, Kevin and Bill (whom I refer to as "The A Team") (I hope they Riff that one) were riffing popular movies.
I downloaded "300" that day. I just wish I knew about Rifftrax two years ago.
Oh, I guess you could say I was excited.
Now, I'm gonna go back to re-authoring "The Dark Knight".
None of the options really cover this, but I just happened upon it while I was browsing TV Tropes one day. I was a big fan of Mystery Science Theater when I was younger, so needless to say I thought the idea was awesome. Then my brother told me about the House on Haunted Hill event and asked me if I wanted to go, and here I am.
Now that I know about Rifftrax, I distinctly remember my brother showing me the sample for the Revenge of the Fallen riff and thinking it was hilarious. Had no idea what it was though...
I was watching a review of Battlefield Earth by the Nostalgia Critic on YouTube and on the right side of the YouTube page were similar sarcastic review and I saw a sample Rifftrax link and read that the members of rifftrax were the makers of MST3K so I looked up this site. Glad I did, (I loved MST3K and have been watching a lot of old episodes on Netflix) because the guys are still as funny if not funnier than they were back in the 90's!
It's been so long I'm not really sure, but I think somebody mentioned it on the MST3K Livejournal group. I've always been a Mike fan, so I checked the site out. I saw they had a Rifftrax for Willy Wonka, and I knew that one was ripe for a bashing, so I had to get it! I do love the shorts, but the features are my favorite, especially when it's a movie I've seen several times. The Rifftrax put a whole new spin on the film. Even if it's a movie I really enjoy, I like hearing what the guys have to say about it.
As I was walking into the "FOREST OF DOOM" I met a magical wizard, his name was Grantuas. He told me that to make it through the night I would have to take this magic potion. I was scared at first but re-assured me that this was the only way to make it out. After taking the potion I flew into a magical mystery dream land filled with Mike Nelson's, Crow's, and Tom Servos. After waking up to find myself naked under the Brooklyn Bridge I ran back home and typed my recent ailments into webmd; It suggested me to watch classic MST3K episodes. I then had to further myself looking for a forum to play around on, and also to keep my sanity here at work.
:rimshot:
I was browsing the internet about the movie "A Serious Man" and then I watched it on YouTube and later found out that it can be found in this forum. I'm glad to know this and part of this community. I like the idea of the movie "A Serious Man".
Welcome, Simon!
Sometimes it's good to be among mad people. ;D

I saw the initial announcement on Satellite News I think. I remember anticipating the Roadhouse riff as if it was the second coming of Christ.
Through Satellite news. I didn't go there on a regular basis, but I read in Starlog magazine about Cinematic Titanic. When I sent to Satellite news there was a post about Rifftrax.
Now I go to Satellite news every day.
My first purchase was Shorts Volume 1, and it went from there.
Kinda of stumbled upon it, after remembering how much I love MST3K as growing up as a kid (born in 89' the year MST3K went to the Comedy Channel) with my parents, and then buying some of the DVD Sets from Shout! Factory, along seeing references to Riff Trax and Cinematic Titanic in interviews/wikipedia pages. I was SHOCKED that I hadn't hear of either of them until this year, seeing RT & CT have been going strong since 2006. Immediately got all the DVDs/Blurays I could afford on ebay (ayyyeeee, don't look at me like that! Atleast someone paid full price amiright?!?! and I donated/bought a VOD damnit!). The hilarity ensued.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an close east coast date for the Manos: Live event muahaha!

I just heard about Rufftarz through the internews!! OMG I love Crow and Tim! I am so glad I get to see Joel again. Do they do the host skits with the Mad scientist and Franks??? I luv Rufftarz!
I forget exactly where but it was a news article of some type and immediately got hooked. That was sometime back in 1967 according to bugs during the early website. Records are still off but the site has become even more awesome. I now own every short and VOD and about 83% of the remaining catalog. Not to mention the Rifftones soundtrack. I am working on have 100% of everything by the end of the year. Whenever I get the chance I recommend Rifftrax to people I meet.
There needs to be an option for other. I found out about this site when i was googling trying to find a really funny review I had once read of Star Wars episode one that I wanted to show my brother and I came across a link to the episode one rifftrax product page. That isn't covered by any of the poll options.
Came up when I searched mst3k on a torrent site.
I'm pretty sure I saw it on Something Awful, use to go there every week for Photoshop Friday.
I saw it in the blog entry for one of the Sluggy Freelance strips since Pete finally decided to share that little nugget of information with the rest of us.
None of the above. I was introduced to RiffTrax through a friend, after a random MST3K conversation. Haven't looked back since! 8)
Oh hai everybody, hahaha....
I heard about Rifftrax through an ex. We first watch MS3TK and I loved Space Mutiny and Werewolf...then he found out about Rifftrax through a newsletter. The first Rifftrax's that I saw was, "The Room." OMG!!!! Now every time anyone comes into my home, they have to watch that movie.
Thanks guys for making bad movies....better!
I was an old MST3K fan but i first found out about RiffTrax after a local theater which hosts Fathom Events did a showing of Rifftrax Live: Reefer Madness.
I first heard of it from my favorite webcomic, Sluggy Freelance. I'd loved MST3K for years but as time went on I kinda forgot about it, but then Pete posted a post about how his favourite show was back but as rifftrax. It was love at first sight.
I knew about rifftrax, but not the forum.
found that today while searching for Steve Vance mini-posters.
I have a bunch of them framed and I am trying to find others without buying every dvd set made, since I have almost all the episodes from fan copies.

Today is my introduction to the forum, as well. I've had my share of Rifftrax "tweets" but never knew the Word was being spread in an organized fellowship.
I heard about Rifftrax in 2009, but I've been an avid/rabid MST3K fan since the Joel days.
Is this really how you found out about us ???
Can't remember exactly...when hard drives started to come down in price I bought a 750GB external drive and a WD media player, I became obsessed with loading that hard drive up with all of my DAP MST3K episodes and while copying them fron old DVDRs I came across the Star Wars episode 1 Rifftrax that I had bought at some point but had then totally forgotten about Rifftrax. That reintroduction led my current obsession with buying every release (other than the Harry Potter releases-riff or no riff, Harry Potter sucks).
I actually heard about it from my brother and he showed me a riffed version of The Day After Tomorrow. We grew up watching MST3K and it was a welcome return to a type of wit that has shaped my life. I regret nothing!
From an interview I was shocked thought it was such a great idea.
I Googled "Mike Nelson." I was wondering if he had another book coming out or something. There was a link to Rifftrax.com. I clicked out of curiosity.
45 minutes later, I was watching the "300" riff.

Maybe Satelite News, but I was trying to keep track of Mike Nelson commentaries, especially when THE FILM CRED DVDs were being voted on. I was disappointed when they decided to stop Film Crew, but at least Rifftrax releases DVDs too.
Hey there! Brand new on the boards! I've been a MST3K fan since the 90's, and I actually discovered Rifftrax when a mutual fan friend mentioned a few years back that this existed. Obviously I had to check it out, so I pulled a few reviews from Youtube and was hooked right away.
We actually started making sure we went to your Christmas live broadcasts every year as part of our holiday traditions (I think our first one was the re-do of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians) but we try to catch as many live shows as we can a year.
BTW I'm a YA librarian, and I was assigned to read Twilight for my job. After suffering through the first 1/3 of the first book, I just downloaded the tracks for each of the films and watched them so I'd have an idea of what they were about (That's right, I cliff-noted my way through a reading assignment!). You honestly saved my sanity.
You chose the best possible way to get through Twilight, well done and welcome.
Well I was sitting in my house, minding my own business, when some guys roll up to my front door, break in and blindfolded me. Next thing I know, I'm in this forum.

Nah. I used you as a reference, though. :o
I actually stumbled across it while watching MST 3K: shorts 1 on Amazon. Saw the cast of MST doing a live review of Sharknado? Who could resist that! :) At the end of the Rifftrax Live (and in the ending credits), the website is mentioned. So here I am.
Ah, well on the 10th anniversary I figured I should log in and post again :)
I had been following the guys since MST3K folded, over to Timmy Big Hands and when that folded I was haunting Mike's website, buying his and Kevin's books, etc. Anyway, the Film Crew stuff happened and I THINK the Rifftrax announcement came from Legend Films on day.
I was so very happy and even happier that they're still going strong.

Bout time you showed back up :P
According to the shop, Roadhouse was released July 21st, so we're ALMOST at 10 years.
Other fun facts: If memory serves, the riff was heavily discounted to a dollar to allow fans to beta-test. The forums opened up almost a month later, with the admin members signing up on 8/10 and civilian members starting to pile in on the 18th.
I'm expecting some to-do. Maybe even some ballyhoo or a full-on kerfluffle- sometime tomorrow.
Greetings from Australia! I was lucky enough to stumble across MST3K on youtube completely by chance. I recognized Crow from avatars on other forums and gave it a shot and was immediately hooked. It was a natural process to find rifftrax from there.
P.S. I wear a Rowsdower tshirt I got off redbubble. I'm still waiting for a random in public to point it out.
I saw a poster ad for RiffTrax Live via Fathom Events in a Regal theater. It was for Sharknado 3. Haven't missed since.
I recall that, a long while ago, my older brother mentioned this cool thing he called "Mystery Science Theater" (I believe he left off the '3000'). I had never seen it, myself.
Now comes along April 2017 and "MST3K - The Return" on Netflix. Binged those 14 eps pronto. I have now seen 19/20 of "Collection 1" of the original MST3K series, again on Netflix.
I'm hooked by the eyeballs now.
I would not be shocked if Netflix has not now opened up the universe of riffing considerably.
Rad. Neat to see a riffing newbie get drawn in by Rifftrax. After you're done binging Netflix, you only have like 150 other episodes to track down. And I think we're up to one kajillion Rifftrax now. Your cup runneth over. :^)

And there are another kajillion iRiffs by the many great iRiff groups.
Avid follower of all the MST3K info I could find after the show ended, I heard about The Film Crew first. Then it just went from there. Down the hill. Like a snowball. With a few rocks in it.
Well, call me Johnny-come-lately, but I found this profile from the Rifftrax website. As a dedicated Mystie since 1993, I kept tabs on the SOL crew over the years, and enjoyed many a Rifftrax video, but only recently came to this wonderful, wonderful site. And I'm thrilled to be here!
Well, welcome aboard. I hope you have a great time!
I remember seeing an ad for the Jack the Giant Killer Rifftrax Live show during the trailers of some other feature back in 2010. Went to the JTGK show, loved it. Went to the site, found a huge treasure trove of riffed movies. Some good, some bad. Never bothered signing up for the forum until now. I tend to be kind of wary of online communities, especially moderated ones. In theory, I see the value of maintaining some law, but too often I find that the moderators are terrible at being impartial and the rules can be applied capriciously depending on their biases and attitudes toward you. But I'll give this place a shot.
I hope my introduction didn't come off as bitter or accusatory or anything.

I actually was brought into the knowledge of Rifftrax was when my parents took me to the live show where they riffed the 1961 mothra movie in 2016 ;D
Been a fan of MST3K for most of my life, so when I heard they had made a website dedicated to riffing, thats how I found out.
Subbed because of the Pluto TV freebies.
