Basic questions about the shorts

Howdy!
I used to be a major Rifftrax fan, downloading all the available tracks and going through the whole process of making a dvd with the commentaries on them.  But it eventually became too much of a time sink, and I stopped going through the whole process.  A friend of mine recently told me about the Shorts which RT has been releasing.  So I've looked all over and I'm having trouble figuring out just what you get when you buy a short.  What is the file type?  Can the non-DRM shorts be easily converted into a standard DVD?  My DVD player is over six years old so I really doubt it can play DivX directly (although if anyone has a website which lists all the kinds of DVD players that can do this, that would be nifty as I certainly don't have the manual or anything after so long).  I've trying searching for information on the shorts and it is hard to tell which of the posts refer to the DRM ones and which don't.  I loathe watching videos on my computer, so if I can' t pretty easily get them onto a standard DVD, I'll probably have to just keep on moving on.  Thanks for the help!

If you download the mpeg2 versions of the short you can easily use DVD Flick to burn them to dvd. Much faster than doing reauthors for all of the rifftraxes.

Also if you have an ipod or a zune...you can download video files for those devices as well.

None of our shorts have DRM, to re-emphasize, and they have not for a while, and will not going forward.  The full length movies are supposed to be up as DRM free as well, soon.  You can burn them to a DVD using whatever dvd burning software you have.

Man0s

Ah, you get an mpeg2 file?  Yes, that is the info I was missing!  I've taken a quick peek at DVD Flick and it seems pretty okey dokey (I usually use Nero to burn and I'm pretty sure it doesn't support mpeg2).  Thanks for the info, I'll have to download them now and get to work on a compilation disc.

Conor, sorry if I touched on a sore point about the DRM.  All the the more recent catalog entries said DRM free but when I did a search on "short dvd burn" a lot of entries came up seeming to indicate that the earlier ones were still problematical.  So all shorts are DRM free now?  That's excellent!

What did you mean the "full length movies are supposed to be DRM free as well"?  I thought Rifftrax's riffs on full length movies just came with mp3 files?  Or did you mean that the mp3 files are DRM free?  I guess I thought they always were.
Sorry for the basic questions.  Although I love Rifftrax, it seems really harder than it has to be to find basic infoon the site.   I usually end of searching for a topic and then plowing through forum messages to get the info I need.  I couldn't find any stickies anywhere about burning shorts to dvd for example?

Anyway, thanks again for the help!

Conor

The only thing that has any copy protection on it are the full length VOD movies.  The regular rifftrax MP3s never have.  Soon the full length VOD movies will be downloadable as regular files, this is planned, it just hasn't happened yet.

Man0s

Oh, I see.  I didn't realize you had full length stuff on VOD.  You mean like Troll 2 and Missile to the Moon.  Got it.   Thanks for being so helpful!
