...

Anyone know of a good one-stop website for finding "vintage" movie reviews? I'm interested in reading the critics first impressions of films that have gone on to become classics or cult hits. Short of scouring old newspaper articles and individual critics archives, i really can't find much. So this is turning out to be much more difficult than i imagined.

Any help?

No clue.  Roger Ebert keeps a pretty extensive database of his old reviews at his site, but I don't know of any vintage review aggregators out there.

Come to think of it, there might be a little bit of coin in a web site like that.  All you'd have to do is fish through old newspaper archives and transcribe reviews.

The Roger Ebert one is the only thing I can think of too.

I doubt that one really exists other than under a personal website of someone who has reviewed movies for a long time (like Ebert).

The problem may be that most reviews for old movies were in newspapers or magazines and I doubt that they would be in public domain for someone to catalog.

But man, that IS a good idea.

Graham Greene used to write movie reviews in the 30s before he started writing them.  They're pretty good, too.  Can't find anything online though.

There's an archive of Pauline Kael's reviews though:

On a sorta-related item, here are internet reactions to Return of the Jedi at the time it came out:

QuoteI would easily rate this a $6 or even $8 movie -- even the second time around!

Ah those were the days! :)
