I'm having what looks to be a software problem with the rifftrax player.  For a little more background of what I've already covered, check the (current) end of the "MAC Users" thread in this forum.  I'll summarize what I think we know here.

Here's my setup:
Intel based MacBook Pro, running Windows XP 2002 service pack 3 via VMWare Fusion version 1.1.1.

I've installed Power DVD software in order to get the proper codecs, and I've verified that the VM Windows system can play DVDs via that software.

I can see the Power DVD decoders in the DVD settings options panel within the rifftrax player, so I'm decently confident that it can see the codecs.

The player starts up and when it tries to play the DVD, it complains that my version of Windows doesn't have "capability of rendering DVD Filters".  It suggests that I don't have proper codecs installed - which isn't the right diagnosis, of course, since they are there and can be used by the Power DVD software.

Things I've tried so far:

1. Uninstalling and reinstalling codecs via both Power DVD software and the free KL Codec package that was recommended in this forum.
2. Uninstalling and reinstalling the rifftrax player before and/or after the codec reinstalls.
3. Going to Windows update and making sure I have the latest patches, etc., applied -- that's why I have SP3, in fact.  I was running SP2 when I hit this problem to begin with.
4. Added a new user to use for rifftrax playing.  This didn't solve the problem either, leading me to believe this isn't a user settings problem.

Given the fact that DVDs can play outside of the rifftrax player, it doesn't seem like this is a problem stemming from the fact that I'm running within a VM.  It appears to me (in my very limited understanding of the interactions here) that something needs to be tweaked to allow the rifftrax player to find the "standard DVD navigator" in this Windows system.  So I'm wondering if there is some debug info, log files, etc., that I could provide or maybe another step or two I could apply to attempt to get this working.

I've started this new thread in the hopes that rifftrax player software support persons (whomever that might be) will see it and respond.

Thanks.

Hello,

The VM situation in VM Ware is that the DVD usually does not play when standard DVD Navigator is used for playback -
When building the RiffTrax player I use the standard DVD Navigator- what I would suggest is this-

Grab the program (Graphedit) and install in the in the Windows VM - then insert the DVD Navigator Filter and render the pins -
if the pins align correctly- and when playing the DVD you have video/audio then you may have a point I may have to look at -

As far as I know in internal api on VM is that DVD is not supported- I only run tests on the install in VM when building RiffTrax

I am definitely not an MS developer type, but I'll see if I can puzzle through what you're asking me to do and get back to you.
