Thought I'd open up a thread for talking about the varied contest entries for LOTR.

I'd like to start by saying that people put Mike's head on a woman's body a LOT! Far more than Kevin, who would technically have a greater comedic value, what with the beard and all. Does this say something about untapped desires?

I suppose I put Disembaudio on a woman's body, so what does that say about MINE? :^)

I'm not touching that one...  :)

Overall, I thought the quality was good.  Some of them made me outright laugh, though I did vote based on the skill of the photoshopper in mixing the elements rather than any humour.  An honourable mention to Cropsy13 with this one, though, which I thought was very funny:

In my personal opinion, eightcell's work was the best; his work on the Morior Door, the Hobbit book and the Ring are completely awesome and they get the 5 stars they deserve.

Whew, just got done voting for all of them.  Everyone deserved at least one star just for putting in the time and effort.  I did give extra points for humor, since not everyone has killer Photoshop skilz.  I based most of my votes on which I thought TPTB might actually choose to advertise the LOTR Rifftrax.  I have to say my favorite was Eightcell's hobbit writing in the book with the Disembaudio illustration.  Fabulous!!!

What do you guys think (thus far) of how that gallery is setup? Is there anything you would like to see changed?

(While I may not be able to include suggestions in the current contest's gallery, they will go noted for future developments..)

I'd like to see which entries i have already voted for, and the rating i gave them... while the pictures are still thumbnail galleries. Maybe we could even have the option of voting while they're still thumbnails...
Just a couple thoughts, for next time!

How long do we have to vote untill the polls close? I've been kinda do a cluster at a time due to time restraints.
Excuse me while I go sink-wash my unit...

The voting system will be active for at LEAST the entire weekend, even probably through to the end of the day monday. Of course that doesn't include any downtime from switching the servers but hopefully what little downtime you do see, won't be at a highpoint of daily traffic.

And Rude, while you can't see which ones you already have voted for, this would be easy enough to implement, although harder with the IP-based system. If it were user-based (as we had discussed at one point) it would be MUCH easier to only display the items you had not yet casted a vote for.

The only thing right now is you can see (after you've clicked a thumbnail) if you already did vote on that particular image, and what your vote was. But again since it's IP-based, if your ISP issues dynamic rather than static IPs (or if your router does the same, in the case you have one) then it could cause some double-voting, but alas, we will most likely (I hope) change this for the next one.

I'd like to be able to change my vote. I accidentally voted 2 on a really good photo because of a misclick but there are other reasons to want to go back (for example, I was particularly hard on the first page for some reason and when I went back to check my votes I noticed that...I guess it's like teacher rage, ime, they're always harder on the first assignments).
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

I'd like it if, after rating one picture, it automatically loaded the next one. It would make the process much smoother. :^)

That wouldn't be too hard. There are several ways to do it also - either in order (the way they were entered into the system) or even randomly, and only choosing from the ones you haven't submitted a vote for yet. Killing two problems with one code snippet. (I think that's the saying?)

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I was curious as to how the votes were to be tabulated.

I know that you vote on your favorites by giving them one to five stars.  Is it going to be the total numbers of stars, or an average star rating, that will be used to rank the entries.

For example, what would be the lowest score to give a picture? One star, or not voting for it at all?

Good question Monty. I think it's going to be mainly the average rating for each image. Of course, we'll go through all of them and see which ones weren't voted on at all, and tally up all the votes for each one. That's going to come later as it's something I have to customize for the system, which I wrote as well. Yup... plenty of work ahead of me, but it's nothing that you will have to see. We'll take care of things in our end.

We will probably narrow choices down again and do another heat of voting, and maybe have Mike go through and pick favorites. We haven't discussed it too much, but I'm sure come monday we'll have some ideas of what to do next.

Well it's become very obvious that someone is padding the voting for Star Wars on the front page, it's postion has changed quite a bit in a short amount of time. Is theforce.net or something linking to it?

We have a LOT of places linking to rifftrax.com for the Star Wars riff... we knew it was going to be a big one and it got mentions on USA today as well as G4TV.. so I'm not surprised that is happening. We'll be switching the poll soon enough :)

Well, I was going to suggest that they should be displayed in the order they were submitted, in order to reward those who got theirs in early.   But I may need to rethink the logic of that.

Also, I guess it would be next to impossible to do, given the way they were submitted to the forum, so, uh... never mind.  Nothing to see here.  Move along.
