Yes this is for the theatrical edition.
Netflix lists a 'Collectors Edition'.. Is that the same as the Theatrical?

If i remember correctly the collectors edition is both

Yes, and to clarify further. This is the version that was used as reference:
http://www.amazon.com/Alien-Directors-Cut-Tom-Skerritt/dp/B00011V8IQ/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1212611280&sr=8-2

It contains both the Theatrical and the Director's cut. The director's cut is actually shorter than the theatrical at 116 minutes(confirmed by IMDB) so the 117 minute cut is the one you want to get. (But personally...for $10 you get both versions to be safe, and you get to own a true classic. I would just buy the double disc, or even the Quad, which I plan on doing as soon as I can justify paying money for Alien 3 and Resurrection :P )

You can buy the triple pack with is half the price of the quadrology AND you'd only have to justify buying Alien 3.

http://www.amazon.com/Alien-Triple-Pack-Aliens/dp/B000REQQGQ/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1212611986&sr=1-16

I have the triple pack... But the Alien disc says it is 116 minutes. It doesn't say anything about whether it's director's cut or not. Is it still the theatrical but just rounding down? Do I have to get some special set to get the right cut for the riff?

Release date: Tues, June 10th

Next 20Q game on June 18th

Congrats  Dignan, you can obtain your prize by emailing support@rifftrax.com

excuse my fanboy nitpicking but the alien in the poster is from aliens.  you can tell by the nonsmooth head.  sorry i just love the classic alien look over the aliens look.  in other news cant wait for this riff!!
and anyone at all interested in the films buy the alien quadrilogy set its just far to awesome to settle for anything less.  i bought it for 70 bucks when it first came out and it was worth every penny and you can get it way cheaper now.  and the alien 3 workp[rint version is actually kinda good...

Will this be intended for mature audiences, as the Saw riff was?

I don't believe so... they didn't have me put the warning on this one.

Yeah, and the facehugger in the poster doesn't look anything like the facehugger from the movie either.  Riff Martian really screwed this one up.

I have the "20th Anniversary Edition" that reads approx 116 minutes.

So, am I hosed?

After poking around a bit I'm going to say that as long as it doesn't say "Director's Cut" anywhere on it....you should* be ok. The director's cut wasn't released until 2003 and the 20th anniversary DVD was released in 1999 and included the scenes from the Director's Cut as separate bonus features.

* - completely guessing here and will look into things further; do not take my word as law until further notice. Still looking into the info on the Triple Pack
Any issues with the RiffTrax main page should be directed to support@rifftrax.com Attempts to engage with me directly about such matters will result in ridicule.

I went to Netflix and added the 117 minute version "Collectors" edition from the Alien Quadrillogy set, so I should be set either way.

I wonder if Netflix needs me to back up that copy for them in case the DVD gets lost in the mail?   Yeah, I bet they probably do.

*nervously looks over shoulder*

David

The 2 reviewers on the 3 pack's amazon page say it's the theatrical version. I'm probably safe.

Smoky

Ok, too much Rifftrax Presents! It's awesome that they're doing Alien, but why can't it be a Rifftrax?

Aliens better be Rifftrax.
I know you are but what am I
