Quote"Disaster Movie" is the latest terrible spoof by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the duo behind such films as "Meet the Spartans," "Epic Movie" and "Date Movie." A new poster for "Disaster" has been released, spoofing "Indiana Jones" movies, showing Indy getting crushed by a big rock.

In addition, we have the first shot from the film, featuring characters from (I'm guessing) "Enchanted," "Juno," "Jumper" and "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins." Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these.

"Disaster Movie" stars such Hollywood talent as Carmen Electra and Kim Kardashian. It is scheduled to hit theaters on August 29th.

Let me guess.  The princess will be so over-the-top sugary that everybody around her will want to punch her (and somebody eventually will) and will make light of every single disaster in the film, the white guy will be a complete idiot, the black guy will be sassy and also an idiot and will complain about the "black guy dies first" clause, and the Juno parody's stomach will visibly increase and decrease in size throughout the course of the movie, which will be constantly called into question just in case you missed the joke.

And considering the size of that princess's sleeves, I'll be very surprised if she doesn't use those shoulder abominations as water wings, and I'll be further surprised if this joke isn't run into the ground thanks to either shoddy timing, having the joke explained to the audience, or by having the joke overplayed to the point it just isn't funny anymore.

Enchanted? Are you serious?

Again with the parodying of what was already a very clever parody. Have Friedberg and Seltzer ever WATCHED a movie they've parodied, or do they just rely on others to give them vague descriptions of the plots and what characters looked like?

doggans

Temple of Doom certainly was a disaster.  :rimshot:

And thus ends the closest thing to a laugh anyone will ever get out of this movie.

Anything that keeps idiots busy so I can see movies I want to see without them annoying me is a positive.

I miss parody movies like Airplane where the characters were original and had their own things going on rather than just taking characters from popular movies from the past few months.

Ummm...Airplane! was a virtual remake of a movie called Zero Hour....Abrahams, Zucker and Zucker even bought the rights for the movie before they did it.  They talk all about it on the commentary track of the DVD.

Oh, you haven't even seen it, you dingus.
They weren't saying that the recent movie was a disaster....they're saying that if you associate your movie with something recent and good people will be influenced to believe that your movie is the same....   ;)

What I mean is that they didn't directly lift a character from another movie in another genre that came out in 1980.

AND they actually added humor.  They didn't just completely recreate scenes word for word and then maybe add some weed or a penis.

Everytime I think about how these movies keep parodying comedies, it makes my eye twitch.  I'm lucky to have even survived the first Scary Movie, what with my head exploding trying to make sense of a parody of a movie that was in fact already a parody.

It makes me sad to think that people are "writing" these movies and allowing their names to get put in the credits.  How could you live with yourself knowing that you "wrote" Meet the Spartans?  The scary thing is that at some point they had to think either "Wow, this is really good!" or "Meh, I got paid already... whatever... I'm gonna smoke some more crack now."

what I meant was, those movies have nothing but references to modern pop culture, so, with the new one out people know Indiana Jones.

and I Dune-ing loved Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I'm just curious....do you feel the same about Mad magazine parodies?

Because I see these (the good ones, anyway) as being just live action versions of those satires.

Quote from: Mr. L on June 10, 2008, 10:30:17 AMI saw Superhero Movie because I love Super Hero movies and the trailer made this look.... not completely terrible.  What surprised me the most was how cheap the "special effects" were.  It just looked terrible.  The Scary Movies had some production value... now a days these movies have... Carmen Electra.

Superhero Movie was actually considerably better than Scary Movie 3 and 4 combined, which only serve to show how badly David Zucker has lost it in recent years. Thankfully, he chose to only produce this one. While it isn't the best, it certainly does more than just show a bad imitation of whatever film character is the most popular and expect us to laugh at it. And it actually stays on track and only spoofs films within the superhero genre!
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

I LOVED Scary Movie 3.  But 4 is unwatchable.
