That's apple for you. They like to keep all the cash in house.  I wonder if any of the unlocking would let you use a third party ringtone, but then you void your warranty and all that stuff.   Probably not worth it to hear Dis sing to you.

Yep, only Apple does this....bastards.

My old t-mobile phone from a few years ago had a USB port and I could drop mp3s formatted a certain way into the phone to use as my ringers. Once they found out people were willing to pay money for ringtones those kinds of features have seemed to disappear. Hell my current phone sells ringtones that are only good for 90 days!!

I can do that with my LG phone now using the micro SD slot.

My blackjack lets you drop MP3s to use as ringtons via USB or from a microSF slot.  I don't know about the blackjack 2.  Probably not.

The blackjack can also be used as a cellular modem.  Probably also disabled on the blackjack 2.
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

Maybe it is for the best that I just keep my old "princess phone" ring tone on my phone....... I would not want to be out in public and grinning like a loon whenever my Rifftrax ringtones started going off.

On a technical note, there's nothing stopping people from recording the preview (which is, in essence, the ringtone) then simply sending it to their phone. They can also do that with any rifftrax mp3. With cell data cables selling for a few bucks, it's not worth it to buy something which you already have.

The personalized/exclusive ones are a cool idea, though.

I was hoping for an "Ian" one myself.

It's a weird system, unfortunately. The easiest way is to browse to it on your phone at m.thumbplay.com.

But the workaround, until they enable this site-wide, is first - to find the "contentID" number of the ringtone. Hover over the "wishlist" icon, which is the one just to the left of "Get it". You'll see the URL like this:

http://ringtones.thumbplay.com/mythumbplay/member/addWishListItem.do?contentId=568719

Take that contentid number and place it into this URL:

http://offers.thumbplay.com/plp/atb3/landing.do?method=home&pname=1132&onexpOffer=true&selectedContent=CONTENTID

(replace the word "CONTENTID" with the id from the first URL.)

Kind of a wonky thing to do, but from what I understand this is something that's on its way for the website. Hope this helps!

Anyone here familiar with douchechills? I have them all over after listening to these rifftones.

Why jump the shark? You had control over the morale high ground and you just threw it all away.

Go here and listen to these official Metallica ringtones and tell me you don't cringe: http://store.g8wave.com/metallica/rt.aspx

At the absolute very least, you have to remove the product plug that starts every ringtone. The ringtone is for my enjoyment, something funny I'd like to hear over and over again. I certainly don't want to hear over and over again, "Hey, it's Mike Nelson from RiffTrax!"

Yeah, this was what I was kinda thinking but didn't want to rain on their parade.
