This is one of the few films that I liked better after the second viewing, I had already seen it once before. The film stars Gene Hack-man as The good Doctor, and Martin Landau Marty Feldman as his sidekick Igor and Peter lorre Peter Boyle as the monster. the story is about the grandsons of Dr. Frankenstein and Igor creating their own monster. The film was pretty funny, except the rape scene, I'm not sure if it's even possible to make rape funny. the film has since inspired a broadway show, much like it's sequel, The Producers, which starred Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. This movie also features a cameo by one Mr. Gene Wilder, as a blind old man.

And now I'll stop nitpicking.   ;)

I kinda took all that as him being funny. Like the guy from the Onion who gets the stars' names wrong.

Based on the reaction, I'd say it was a smashing success.

yeah, I was, and apparently failed miserably. Don't know what the Onion is, but that's what I was going for.

From what I remember, Young Frankenstein wasn't really a rape scene. She was very happy with his Shwarzenhoover.

true, but she was against it in the beginning of the scene, so yeah, probably not rape

The Big Lebowski (Mr. BaseHart)

When "The Dude" Lebowski is mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, two thugs urinate on his rug to coerce him into paying a debt he knows nothing about. While attempting to gain recompense for the ruined rug from his wealthy counterpart, he accepts a one-time job with high pay-off. He enlists the help of his bowling buddy, Walter, a gun-toting Jewish-convert with anger issues. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists want something from The Dude.

wow, this movie was so awesome, yeah granted I didn't "get" any of it, like why bowling was so important, or that whole racist thing. but none the less, great film, this movie had more "Dudes Per Minute", or DPM, than me and my friends combined, it stars Dude Monger, or Iron Dude, and that dude from Roseanne and Death Sentence and that weasel faced dude, who isn't the dude from Torchwood. It tells the story of one dude's quest to get his rug back from these dudes who think he's this other dude with his same name, and along the way, some crazy stuff starts to happen, like Julianne Moore as Doctor Irina Spalko, as well as Dom Irrera, and that dude from The Big Nothing.

this movie gets an Awesome

The Secretary (Courtney)

Lee Holloway is a smart, quirky woman in her twenties who returns to her hometown in Florida after a brief stay in a mental hospital. In search of relief from herself and her oppressive childhood environment, she starts to date a nerdy friend from high school and takes a job as a secretary in a local law firm, soon developing an obsessive crush on her older boss, Mr. Grey. Through their increasingly bizarre relationship, Lee follows her deepest longings to the heights of masochism and finally to a place of self-affirmation.

What a movie, I mean......... wow. I don't know what to say. the movie stars the gorgeous Jake Maggie Gyllenhaal, and the incredibly rat-faced James Spader. It's about this woman, who has recently been released from an institution for cutting herself, it is later stated that she had been cutting since the 7th grade, and truth be told cuttng one's self is getting pretty old after seeing it in all these films. she does it from stress at home with her family, mostly her father, who is a drunk, and Lance Henriksen Stephen McHattie, which might have more to do with it than being a drunk. she gets a job as a secretary for a sadist attorney (big surprise) played by one Mr. David Spade James Spader eventually they become close a he discovers her masochistic tendencies, and eventually her feelings for him gradually progress to love. She also has a boyfriend, who really isn't that important to the story. There is some things, like the Cockroach on the bed at the end, that I didn't understand, but I've gotten used to those things. I really don't know how to feel about this movie, on the one hand, I absolutely hate this movie, but on the other, I Dune-ing love this movie.

I'm too conflicted to give this a rating, it was sweet and romantic, but it was also disgusting and horrible

as an aside, don't look up "Secretary" pictures online  :speechless:

Fritz the Cat (Isaac)

A persiflage on the protest movements of the 60s. It's hero is the bold and sex-obsessed tom-cat Fritz the Cat, as created by the legendary underground artist Robert Crumb. Quitting university Fritz the Cat wanders through the hash, Black Panther and Hell's Angels scenes to find to himself.

what can one say about the film that caused the character's creator to kill him off? lot's of sex (lots of pointless sex), lots of drugs, but it makes sense because of the time it was, I guess. violent, misogynistic, racist movie, of course, it might have been in the comics as well. It was interesting to learn that most of the dialogue was recorded on the street, it does give it a greater sense of realism I suppose, and it probably wouldn't have worked as well scripted. I'm sure that for it's time it was a great work of art, but now, I guess I just don't see what's so great about it, same thing goes for Heavy Metal.

It's about the 1960s. Even you would have gotten laid in the '60s.

Quote from: Jacob T. Caboose on June 09, 2008, 05:30:38 PMlots of drugs, but it makes sense because of the time it was, I guess. violent, misogynistic, racist movie,

It's not misogynistic or racist. It's satire.

Actually, Crumb was the misogynistic one. There were a couple of comics that played rape for laughs. Bakshi has a little more...er, well, "humanity" would probably be the wrong word in this instance, but...

There is no racism in Bakshi's films or Crumb's comics. Actually, a lot of black viewers have commented on how accurately Bakshi portrays black life in his films. I think that all you need is to watch the film again after seeing Heavy Traffic and Coonskin.

Well, the difference is that most people watch Heavy Metal for the soundtrack and the cartoon tits, but people see Fritz the Cat for the satire and social commentary that you didn't get because you were distracted by the soundtrack and cartoon tits!

Actually, I love Heavy Metal, but Fritz the Cat really is a much better film. The reason why it's aged so well is that it's a satire of a specific period, thus you have to watch it with that period in mind. Another point is that you can draw so many comparisons between the politics and atmosphere of the '60s and that of today, so the film is still really fresh. We need to make a new film in the same style to comment on the political and sexual climates of today. The ideas present in Fritz the Cat could really work in a new story told from a post-AIDS prospective.

By the way, how was the Faygo and Miles Davis' On the Corner? ::)
