I thought it was gas

I got that impression too - that it was part of his protecting his home. He had obviously gone through great lengths to booby trap the outside of his home.

And at first I thought he just collected those cars so he could pick and chose what to drive.  :)

What the hell happened to his hot rod anyway? Suddenly he started driving SUVs. Don't they call them gas guzzlers?

That car was the entire reason my dad went to see this movie

Back to the main point, I really liked the dog death scene in the movie. I like how the directors created real emotional situations with manequins and the dog. I mean, come on. All of humanity is dead and we're supposed to feel bad over a DOG? But they really pulled it off well.

bratpop

That car was ruined for me by the fact that he couldn't even hit a DEER with it.

Quicksilver

since I've been seriously questioning my ability to watch this movie riffed and now seeing this long thread actually defending the movie, is this worth watching riffed?

I really liked this movie, it really moved me, not on some earth shattering level, but emotionally. Will Smith did ACTUALLY act, I mean I really believed it and the whole first two acts were great. I dont want to ruin this one over a few laughs, unless it was 8/10 or higher riffs.
The Ood: The Beast and his armies will rise from the pit to make war against God.
Rose: I'm sorry?
The Ood: Apologies. I said: I hope you enjoy your meal.

Don't you have to decide that for yourself? If you HAVE the DVD, it would be silly not to get the Rifftrax (this is Rifftrax.com, not Ihavethedvd.com after all). If you don't, then what's the difference? Unless you watch it every weekend like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, it's unlikely to be "ruined" any more than listening to any good commentary would ruin it.

I'd say it's another 7/10 riff. The first half was great. Once the movie got stupid, the riff wasn't as good. And the funniest stuff was all the dog jokes. When the Brazillian Ex Machina shows up it's not as good a movie anymore and the riffs weren't necessarily that great because they started pointing out how silly it was.

I didn't love the movie, so I can't say, but I bought the riffs for all the movies I do own on DVD, and I don't think I've watched them unriffed since then anyway. So I wouldn't even know if they're "ruined." I just know I enjoyed the riffs.

I have not seen the movie, but I know that the dog that Wil Smith pals around with has to be killed by him when he sees the dog turning vampire/zombie/mutant or whatever everyone else turns into.

I WILL NOT WATCH any movie where the big loveable buddy dog dies as that would be too sad for me to watch (yeah, a 44 year old man would cry, so shut up).

Is this a movie I should watch, or is the dog's death not that traumatic?

Thank you all in advance.

I'm guessing you haven't watched movies like Old Yeller or Turner & Hooch for that very reason.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

I don't know when or why they got away from this but it used to be an unwritten rule that you never kill the dog. (you know like how Romero's zombies have no interest in dogs) It's kind of strange in a way, you can kill all the people you want as messily as possible and I might even laugh, kill a dog and I feel bad.

EDIT: Turner and Hooch at least makes you feel better in the end by going, "Look! Puppies!!!"

How come nobody feels bad for all the other evil zombie dogs who were once good, but not the one main evil zombie dog who was once good?

What if I told you the other dogs were named Fluffylumps, Buttermilk and Snoogles? Feel bad now?

MarkAndrew

Well, I'm buying the rifftrax*, but no way I'm watching the movie.  I'm one of those guys who doesn't mind the human or tasty animal killing in movies but I'm not watching a pet get put down.  Especially not via smothering.

*yes, I sometimes listen to just the rifftrax, normally only when I have the movie memorized...or if it's really horrible like Star Trek 5.

bratpop

Has it been explicitly pointed out that the dog becomes a ZOMBIE and tries to EAT Will Smith while he is holding it before he is forced to sleeper hold it to death? It's not like he's bashing puppies with a mallet. Plus the riff for it was pretty damn funny, and they appropriately decry the movie afterwards (for killing the ONLY likeable character). It's silly to me that people would refuse to see this movie for the only really good scene in the movie. If you refused to see it because it has stupid CG zompires, I would understand that.

What dosen't kill you, makes you stronger.

Stiff upper-lip people, face your fear....it will make you stronger.

MarkAndrew

I'm not going to argue with you, Brat.

This isn't some video game zombie dog.  There are some things I don't need in my head, someone strangling their dog while it struggles is one of them.

bratpop

Er, sorry but it IS a video game zombie dog. They're both CG. Exact same thing, except in this a veteran dog actor gave the performance of her career, and you refused to see it. And you made a dog CRY. You bastard.
