I'll pile on just because he goes to Mexico every 2 weeks for 3 months.
You have my permission to continue dragging him down.

For MrTorso, and others who asked.  Here's a list of some of the best and worse performing titles, straight from the guy who signs my checks (hint: not Erik)

Some of the most popular titles, in no particular order:

Jurassic Park
300
Transformers
Star Wars anything
Harry Potter

Some of the least popular, in no particular order:

Greys Anatomy
Glitter
Crossroads
Over the Top
Missile to the Moon
Island of Dr Moreau

Take from that what you will.

That is sad! Of the top movies, some of them are my least favourite (The Star Wars ones put me to sleep, they are funny, but the movies are toooo dull. The same can be said of the Matrix movies and 300 is the only Rifftrax we've turned off and not returned to. I will one day, probably. I haven't seen Harry Potter yet, though I did LOVE the Transformers riff and the Jurassic Park one was pretty great too.)

Of the bottom movies, almost all of them are my favourite riffs! (The only exception is the Dr Moreau riff because there's no PAL DVD to match the riff, so I haven't seen it.)

I noticed that a bunch of the people participating in this thread said something to the effect of, "Well, those stats pretty much match the ones I've bought" etc. Well, how can you be surprised that the more obscure movies aren't getting riffed?

I figure the riffs really are so cheap, I buy every one, and I've only had three that I strongly didn't like, and almost all of them have been brilliant.

Those odds are excellent.

If you don't think you're going to like one of the riffs because of the genre, I suggest giving it a shot, for the most part you will probably be pleasantly surprised.

I especially recommend Crossroads, Greys Anatomy and Over the Top. I LOVED Missile to the Moon, but I can see how that one is a little difficult, and maybe not everyone's cup of tea.

Also, Connor, can I ask, do the TV one's do bad in general? I would assume they did because it's much more commitment buying a series than a movie. Of the three tv riffs, Grey's was by FAR my favourite.

I'm also quite pleased to read that the chick flick Rifftraxs apparently sell so badly, as a chick who hates chick flicks.

You're "quite pleased" to read that some Rifftraxes are selling poorly?

:'(

It's not that I'm not buying those rifftraxes cos I don't like the genre, really. It's just that I buy other ones first.  As I said, I don't have the entire catalog.

Yeah, I'm kinda proving their point. :)

Still, I'm not getting the super-new releases either.

Yeah, and that's cool, you know, buy the ones you want, but the guys will obviously have to release the ones that will sell better to reflect that.

I hope other Rifftrax buyers are not as fickle as Imrahil.

Well, it's pretty obvious that the majority of the buyers ARE, or else there wouldn't even be an issue.

You can't fault someone for picking and choosing of course, it's their money, and their right, but I DO think that if you like Rifftrax, you're going to like most of the riffs, regardless of what movie they are on.

"Fickle"?

I guess.  It's also an issue of not having a ton of free time to watch movies and reauthor rifftraces.

wait, reauthor? I thought everyone downloaded the rifftraxes to their Ipods, hooked up their Ipods to a stereo, then played them along side the movie

what's reauthor?

Using technical know-how to pull the movie from the DVD, then add the Rifftrax audio to it (removing DisembAudio's syncing lines and, I imagine, the opening jokes and "... okay, we're back" comments), then burning a new DVD so that you don't have to bother with syncing, or you can throw away your copy of (whatever) so that when people walk by your DVD shelf, they don't see Crossroads sitting next to Glitter sitting next to The Wiccer Man ad infinitum.

well I have no technical know-how, so it's that way for me, and that's a great way to start a conversation about rifftrax?

Not to change the subject but... This is exactly what I have on my shelf.  I actually have a shelf exclusively for Rifftrax movies.  Glitter, Crossroads, Firewall, Wicker Man, and all the other "embarrassing" titles are in my collection.

I was reauthoring the movies for a while, but just found it easier to use the player.  So I don't bother with the reauthor anymore.
