Hey, y'all;

Quick question. If a person has a Blu-Ray of HD-DVD (it could happen! Best Buy is blowing out their XBox 360 HD-DVD drives for $50) drive on his/her computer, can they use the RiffTrax Player to watch with the HD version of a Riffed movie?

I am going to try this sometime this weekend..I think it might be possible if you have the right codec installed?? I'm planning to just switch to the PowerDVD HD/BR codec and try to play a disc (I have PowerDVD Ultra installed)...see if RTP will just decode and play :) No clue if this will work or not but I can report back here with results.

I guess it would work, if the Rifftrax player program considers your CD/DVD/HD DVD or Blu-ray drive as the one to read from, and assuming the version of the movie you have is the same version they riffed, i.e. no extended scenes or anything...

I'm thinking it will all depend on how the RiffTrax player interacts with your video codecs and DVD software on your computer.
My guess is that it uses the codecs and 'guts' from whatever DVD software you have installed. This is similar to how Windows media player plays a DVD.

So, if thats the case, then I can't see why it wont work.

However, if the RiffTrax player uses its own codecs, then you might be up the 'proverbial' creek without a 'proverbial' paddle

See, the impression I got from what I've seen about the RiffTrax Player is that it reads the TOC from the DVD you insert in order to sync the .riff file. Hence, my question.

No, this won't work, but will hopefully be included in future versions.
